FEBRUARY 2022 1st Issue Volume-I February 2022 ABU DHABI INDIAN SCHOOL - AL MUROOR Seniors In-House Publication ABU DHABI Poetry \"Poetry is an expression of the soul, and not simply measured by rhymes!\"

H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan President of the United Arab Emirates & Ruler of Abu Dhabi

Heat of the Heart Oh, just look at the beautiful nature, With birds in the morning sky And with bats in the night so high Is it so mature? The destruction we deny And yet happen everywhere we pass by Rhinos, elephants and tigers are all endangered Why can’t we at least try? Why do we have to lie? Now here I am giving a lecture That we shall protect our planet hereby And stop our hearts from being dry. Salsaal Sadiq - 9C Page 1

The Bizarre Story of a Ruthless Boy In a village, there lived a boy He was happy and full of joy His personality was a bit complex Which makes people very perplexed Sometimes He is rude That’s when people won’t intrude He will shout and scream It may seem like he is in a dream When he is angry, he is scary He even scares his friend Larry People wonder why he has so much rage Especially for a boy of his age One day his parents bought him a doll He got mad and made it fall He then tore it into bits and pieces And then fed it to all kinds of creatures After he disposed the precious doll He felt something crawl Something tingled his thread So he decided to go to bed The moment he went to rest He saw the doll on his chest It was holding a long knife The bloody scream marked his demise. Youth - The Foundation of Life Today’s world is tough Blunders are on the global show But youth need to be stable To face the challenges on way. Youth has the power To change the world Power to inspire Breaking down barriers Things may go wrong, Don’t give up Live it to the fullest But with a youthful spirit Life is strange You need patience Don’t waste your life Live with passion. Resilience An uphill battle that scorns the cowardly Whitewashing, scything and purifying Scouring through the body in search of the gift, To find it innate just behind a bottomless pit Once the treasure so found Morphs the vessel, tungsten would be proud Endows jubilation, an aura of stoutness Tames the demon, breathless in the end Relishing in the elixir, vibrancy alight Disposes of any goal, rather easily in hindsight The old crone condemns the treasure, His sarcophagus lain, a dying attempt Out of the woods, clarity bestowed Challenges from the world? A hearty no Ambition conquered, the world shakes in its plight The bearer of the treasure, beware of his might By Ayush Harish - 11D Page 4

Steel Everything is like steel From nails to cars, From bolts to cities, Everything is like steel Humans too are like steel; Some bend when hit, While others may stay the same; Some others may even break; But it is only those who bounce, Be ones to prosper, for they, Even after pushed down, Will jump higher than before So let us all go the flame, And reshape ourselves to bounce So when nature and fate join, And push us down, We can bounce higher than before By - Jaijith Krishna J - 10F Page 5

THUNDER CLOUDS Thunderclouds, However Hard They Try, Will Always Be Dark. Down, Down, Down Into The Darkness Of The Thunderclouds, Gently They Go - The Subdued, The Incomprehensible, The Unenlightened. Abhishek Mathew Hope is a Picky One Hope is a picky one It only comes to people who have won If you push yourself When others hold you back If you can tell apart the lies by yourself The white lies from the black If you can elevate your skill When everyone around seems to chill. Then don’t worry my friends Just wait until Hope befriends By - Alman Ahmed - 9E Page 6

When Life Lets You Down When life lets you down, You should not frown Instead, you should rebound and not cry over your wound For if you give up now, You'll have to repeat all that you plow We should try to recover, From the problems that we suffer If we give in to the pressure We will never be able to find the treasure And, if our troubles begin to empower They will devour... us to pieces and we will be left... Filled with shame and our morale filled with creases So, we should bounce back and not crack. By - Aksh Verma - 9G RESILIENCE A strength so innocent and true that lies deep inside of you A place you never thought you’d reach But the ultimate lesson it would teach Tragic unfortunate things that happened to thee Made you open your eye so you could finally see The value of your life and your beautiful worth A love and hope that will forever fill our earth Because now your magic can be shared with many And help the weary of whose burdens are heavy To overcome the painful troubles, they face All because you fought with strength, resilience and everlasting grace. Throw Me to the Wolves Throw me to the wolves See if I don’t come back Loading the pack Don’t you know me Better than that? Resilience Never forget I am the girl who loves you Barring my truth For the world to see I dare you Just try and hurt me You won't succeed I am swinging and biting You’ll see Tread carefully My claws are at the ready I got my whole pack behind me literally Ready to snap necks and chew flesh. Power of Bouncing Back In the journey of our daily lives, There is surely one thing needed to survive. Especially with all the troubles and difficulties That each of us cope within our capabilities. Resilience is the trait one needs to adopt, Cause that’s the key to stand up in one shot. To withstand adversities with all our strength, And work through problems and challenges to our best effect. No one can assure us a life of roses, We need to empower ourselves to handle whatever life proposes. So, build yourself and let no one put you down, Have the right attitude and never let yourself drown. It would be easier to cope with our loved one’s support and encouragement, This will equip us to face these challenges with a positive commitment. Let us overcome all our tests and troubles, And with resilience fix our life puzzles. By - Jay Hanley Thomas - 8F Page 9

The Mother The soil is soft and the rivers are swift, The mother earth functions only for her sons and daughters. We may never realize that she’s a gift, And make her experience horrors. The tides stop, the leaves start falling, All you can do is watch your fate unfolding. You cry for help and no one hears, You then remember your mother, the only one who wiped your tears. She stumbles and fumbles but no one picks her up. She huffs and puffs but no one but no one lets her rest. The mother blinds herself from everything you corrupt. She would perish before the day she found you weren’t her very best. The odds seem against you for what you’ve done, But a mother’s heart can never see her children’s cries and pain. Your eyes light up when you see her again, She looks at you with a forgiving smile and glows like the sun, Then musters up all her strength and rises once again. By - Aman Jha - 12B Page 10

Breaking the Drowning Blue An engulfing cloak of the marine void, The deep blue ghosts submerging him, goad. a cerulean terror seized and paralyzed, As the silence chorused a jeering ode. Struggling for breath, he labours in vain; futile flails against an oppressive pain. His tears coalesce with the cobalt blue, He screamed, but only the water knew. And gradually drowning into the salty abyss, All toils ceased, surrender feigned bliss. The tranquillity of giving up loomed near; “Maybe I should just stop and sink in... It’s nice down here...” But suddenly, a burst of hope surged up his blood, He conjured resilience, like an almighty flood, Rupturing the shackles of gravity, he propelled up the water! Heaven above cut blazing gold through the rippling azure. A resilient spirit broke off the chains, A resilient mind untied the reins, A resilient soul broke blue to gold A resilient heart is the greatest gift one can hold By - Joaline Johan - 12C Page 11

Resilience Resilience is what gives you strength, Phycological and physical. When the situation is intense, You need to be resilient enough to recover. Resilience is what keeps you going. When things get dark, Hope will come glowing, And it will light a spark. You should be aware of situations, And their own emotional reactions. For when the situation arrives, You will thrive. Be successful, Be healthy and strong. So you can have plentiful, And live long. By - Nivin Koshy Vinod - 9E Page 12

5th Shakespearean Creativity Challenge 2021-2022 You are on a spaceship flying through the universe on your way to Mars to colonize it for humans. As the first journalist, write a report back to Earth on what you observe during the journey. Friends back on Earth, greetings from the Norse Space Station! I am filled with delight and an absolute pleasure to be recounting my cosmic adventures with you all. We as humanity have ascended to a new phase of life and I am honoured to be pioneering this ambitious, next step. We might have just found our new home! Who knows? Soon you might be potting your gardens in pink sands, or you might be walking home from school under the glow of pink Martian skies. Whatever it may be, our journey to exoplanet colonization has just begun. Five years ago, when I got the e-mail from Judy that I was invited as a candidate for this herculean mission to Mars, I was absolutely thrilled. I threw my half-drunk cinnamon latte in the bin and rushed from my desk to the main office, to sign up for it. The little, 7-year-old me who spent all his pocket money on Junior’s telescope and an astronomer’s kit was bubbling with joy. From then onwards, the next 60 months were filled with gruelling training and fierce preparation. Page 13

I was absolutely pulverized by the amount of physical and psychological drills we had to go through. But all of those arduous undertakings were worth it. Take off day was one I’d never forget. I still remember the chills sent down my spine when the team and I first set foot into our pristine, white space shuttle. Several glitzy buttons, flashing in functional harmony, studded on cold metal walls lined with kaleidoscopic LED screens and light strips. I was completely enchanted by this almost science fiction movie-like scenery rolling into reality. Knowing this was going to be my new home for the next 23 months was nothing but exciting. The minute we blasted off, there was a roaring cheer sent into the cold, sterilized air. Just like that, the first manned mission to Mars was a go! I looked through the windows and was captivated by the infinite, celestial realm we traversed. Millions of tiny stars dotted on the colourful glowing nebulas, like jewels embroidered on shimmering black silk. Our universe is simply a marvellous work of art. What almost brought tears to my eyes was the scene of our planet; our sublime Mother Earth, seated on her thrown in viridescent majesty. Whorls of milky cloud spiralled over blankets of true blue, that trimmed the outline of perfectly carved, sage green crusts. I felt even more gratitude for having life on this treasured sphere of land and water. As one of the few people in history to have traversed beyond the planetary boundary of Earth, I was filled with pride. Page 14

Days on the shuttle were filled with vim and vigour. We had ice cream for desert after every powdered meal thanks to the new zero gravity-friendly ice cream machine designed by our friends back at NASA. Who would’ve thought I’d be debating between chocolate or vanilla, 100 million kilometers away from Earth! I am glad to have been able to continue watching my favourite television shows on board too. Couldn’t imagine how I would’ve survived this excruciatingly, long journey without knowing what happened next on The Bachelor. Also, who could forget our fierce game nights where we all played so voraciously! 690 days onboard and I still haven’t lost a single game of monopoly. It was irksome when the tokens and play-money kept floating midair. But even on a spaceship, my board game prowess remained unscathed. Whether we do set foot on Mars or not, this is one achievement I’ll be talking about for the rest of my life, not many have a 690-day win streak to their name! The scariest highlight of this astronomical voyage was our spacewalk that could have gone catastrophic. The team and I were all securely tethered to the ship and were ready to go out and dive into the jet black oblivion of outer space. I went first and leapt into the infinite twilight and was immediately pulped by the unearthly atmosphere in space. Page 15

My limbs felt numb and limp, while blood rushed to my head in this galactic terrain; this was nothing like simulation. To make matters worse, somehow I was untethered from the ship and was now dizzily drifting away, to my possible death. Flecks of black and blue clouded my vision as I tried to maneuver myself towards safety, but my desperate flails were vain. Anomalous cosmic ghosts engulfed me and viciously hauled me away from the ship. I lost consciousness, and my eyes closed on the sight of the sun, which I thought what would have been my last sight. Gladly I was wrong and opened my eyes to the familiar, amicable faces of my teammates towering over me in anxiety while I lay on the familiar cold floor of the shuttle. That was my first and probably last spacewalk ever Those 23 months, caved in suffocating, the white metal was not an all-around, enthusing experience. I missed life with my family; my wife and children on our beachouse by Bermuda Bay. Closed off from the ocean spray and the blithe summer blaze, blocked from hearing the echoes of my newborn’s effervescent laughter was absolutely agonizing. My life for all those months was surrounded by monotonous buttons, switches and drab white panels. As time went on, those same buttons that captured my fascination when I first stepped in, turned dreary and haunted my nightmares. I had panic attacks on most nights, was depressed and mentally exhausted. Albeit constantly connected with hundreds back at mission control, I felt lonelier than ever. Page 16

I was going nuts at one point, choked and throttled by the invisible shackles of zero gravity. No amount of hours at psychological training lessons could keep your sanity for that long. But the minute we entered the Martian orbit; when that red giant came into view from the shuttle, I burst into tears of joy. All the pain and mental exhaustion were worth it. Adrenaline gushed throughout my body and my veins surged with searing energy. That amount of exhilaration was indescribable. I gaped in awe at the absolutely breathtaking view in front of me. A perfect crimson sphere so elegantly brushed with hues of scarlet and orange. Although I’d seen pictures of the planet before, all its nitty-gritty through my strenuous study and research, none of it could compare to the real, raw scene unfolding before me. I heard a resounding cheer through the speakers, we’d done it. The first manned mission to Mars was a success! As I’m writing this, we’re getting closer and closer to the Martian surface and soon the team and I would be setting foot. I’m so incredibly overjoyed to have been a part of this journey and can’t wait for the next odyssey ahead.
