INTRODUCTION 6 Health Information Technology & Statistics Training Center (HealthITSTC) is the only specialized training center for Information Technology & Health Informatics In the Egyptian governmental health sector. The center is affiliated with the National Information Center for health, Ministry of Health. It was established in October 1999 as a computer training center. Health informatics department was established in October 2012 as a direct result of the change in the center vision and activities towards health informatics. The Center is located at an old style Egyptian palace in El- Mounira General Hospital. It was renovated and equipped to accomplish the training purposes as well The center is accredited as a training & testing center from: 1. UNESCO (Now ICDL-Arabia) (May. 2015) 2. CISCO (Sept. 2007) 3. Certiport (Feb. 2010) II. MEMBERSHIP The center is a member of the international organization; Health Information Management System Society (HIMSS). HIMSS “is a global, cause-based, not-for-profit organization focused on better health through information technology (IT)”. HIMSS leads efforts to optimize health engagements and care

WHAT IS HEALTH INFORMATICS?Health Informatics is an emerging discipline at the intersection ofMedical Science, Computer Science and Information Technology.Healthcare sector is an information intensive industry that generatetremendous volumes of information every day. Most of this data stillto be processed and transferred manually in spite of significantprogress in the Information and Communication Technology. Healthinformation technology (HIT) can improve health care andbiomedical research which highlights the importance of healthinformatics education.1VI.
