HISTORY OF AKRON COURT NO. 80 - R.O.J. The Charter of Akron Court No. 80, Royal Order of Jesters was granted by the National authorities on the 27th day of December, 1924. On January 23rd, 1925, Royal Impresario Fred J. Pierce of the National Court, attended the first meeting of Akron Court No. 80, and with the assistance of Jester Director Keefer of Cincinnati, the charter members were initiated, and the first officers of this court were elected as follows: CHARTER MEMBERS: Officers elected after initiation of Charter Members 1. *W. THE ROYAL ORDER OF JESTERS . . . Is a Luxury Organization – for only those who can qualify and who can afford it. Any man proposed for membership should be of such financial ability that his dues, assessments and expenditures incidental to his membership, will cause no embarrassment or deprivation to his family, business associates, or any others to whom he may at any time be obligated. Also; he must be a Shriner in good standing in his Temple and all prerequisite Masonic bodies, and must agree to maintain those memberships, if invited to become a Royal Jester. Because membership in the Royal Jesters is limited, each member is expected to be as active as possible. To be a good Jester he should attend the business and social meetings of his Court whenever called, so far as health and exigencies will permit. Although he is not required to be a regular attendant at meetings of his Shrine Temple he should be active to the extent that he will use his influence and right to ballot to maintain a high level of dignity and Character in his Temple. He must be a gospel of good-fellowship, mirth and merriment, but – he must also be a gentleman even when the wine flows in. No one proposed for membership should be aware that his name has been submitted. A violation of this rule may bring embarrassment not only to the Court and sponsoring member but to other members as well and may result in suspension of the guilty member.
