New Digital World of Gaming According to Price Waterhouse Cooper, the professional and collegiate sports market in the United States could be valued at $83.1B $83.1 billion in 2023. The eight largest gaming entertainment Value of US companies have a market capitalization value of $183.49 billion Professional & Collegiate Sports and growing. The U.S. Bureau of Economic Market Analysis reports that arts, entertainment, recreation, accommodation, and food $183.49B services add almost $900 billion to the Nation’s Gross Domestic Product. Value of Eight Largest US The global sports betting and lottery market is estimated to be Gaming & $231 billion in 2022, with $61.5 billion spent in online gambling Entertainment Companies worldwide as of 2021. The US Sports gambling market will grow from $4.1 billion in 2022 to more than $10 billion in 2028. The sports and entertainment industry continues evolving $231B innovative ways to connect and engage new fans through digital technologies, eSports, and gaming. Online gambling These online services have the potential for exploitation by criminal elements and members of the $10 B public, some of whom may not be aware they are US Online Gambling in violating the law. 2028 In 2021, there were reports 903 reports of match fixing in 76 countries affecting 10 different professional sports. By the end of 2022, there were more than 1,000 incidents of suspected match fixing were reported around the world. The world is on track to have more than 1,000 suspected match fixing incidents by the end of the year. Today, the gaming industry operates and provides legalized gambling services and activities online. These cyber network services have potential vulnerabilities that may be exploited to create influence players to alter the result of a game or match (match fixing) for illicit gain. These effects will be seen in professional and intercollegiate sports through potentially brand-damaging illicit activities. Integrity in Sport & Gaming Conference The ISG Conference is designed to raise awareness of the challenges the sports and entertainment industry faces as they strive to ensure the integrity of sports in a world of online gaming. Sport bets can move around the world through cyberspace at machine speed or roughly 2/3 the speed of light (186,282 miles/second). A nanosecond (1/billionth of a second) in cyberspace can be enough time for sports bets to be placed and recorded. The rewards can be great for a person who is working with others to fix a game or match. The potential damage to sport and player brands and the integrity of a sport can be incalculable. 2.00 PM – Michigan State Police Gaming Unit Gambling overview in Michigan to include a case presentation involving identity theft and fraud investigations associated with gaming. 2.45 PM – Break Beverages and snacks provided by Northern Michigan University 3.00 PM – Epic Risk Management This session explores Epic Risk Management’s work with the NCAA and other professional sports organizations around the world to preserve integrity of athletic competitions while minimizing harm. The presentation will educate and inform the student athlete and organization of the risks of developing a gambling related problem, warning signs and potential threats, as well as resources available.
