subconscious usually is the content that artist Visual Artist explores and express during artistic creation. I maitreyi.dreammerchant am enjoying every bit of it. My paintings have basically evolved from the observation of the “Universe”. However, I have over a period of three decades, tried to personalize the visual language in my own terms and express it with varied mediums. I have recreated the emotions through forms in a constantly changing context, moderating them with subconscious mind. To me work is an essential part of being alive. I feel my work is my identity. My earlier works were soft, soothing happy. At some point we have all faced or will face a life altering event, whether it be the death of a loved one, a serious illness, accident or some experiences that reminds us of what really matters in life. In the blink of an eye, everything can change. Often these life experiences can teach us valuable lessons, help us discover inner strength, & help us realize what is truly important. The only thing that is “REAL” in this world is our “CONSCIOUSNESS”. Physical matter is all a holographic ILLUSION. Life has changed me this way & this concept reflects on my painting too. Art for me is the manifestation of our society, its reality, culture, diversity. I think art has the power to move people profoundly to empower our society. This is a journey for life within life. I called it “Metamorphosis”, morphing one phase to another. I have gone through various sites and books in the past years, trying to search the concepts the conscious and subconscious mind, visualization of the subconscious and its possibilities. I realise there are instincts and desire which cannot be accepted by rationality and morality in the bottom of human psychology, the most intense desire is physical desire. CONCLUSION Odissi Exponent, Cultural Activist vrinda.dance “Creating! that is the great salvation and freedom from suffering, and life's alleviation”. - Vrinda Friedrich Nietzsche (Late German Philosopher and Cultural Critic) Chadha This final quote sums up the quest of all artists - be it in the times when these sculptures were actually built or us today trying to emulate them and building a dance vocabulary. The need to create is what brings excitement, hope and freedom. It is the basis of why we do what we do. To bring an idea, concept, thought, artwork into existence is truly magical! And that closing thought brings us to the end of ‘सं या - Sundown at Puri’. A descriptive photo series recreating the dancing sculptures of Odissa’s Jagannath temple, Puri. 49
