12.11.2015India-UK ties in reset mode as Modi flies into London. Prime MinisterNarendra Modi will fly into a cold and grey London on Thursday on a visit longin coming, but one that is likely to reset and breathe life into India-UKrelationship that had not seen much vibrancy during the last decade. It will also be something of a personal triumph for Modi, who was boycottedby Britain for a decade after the 2002 Gujarat riots. But it was Britain underPrime Minister David Cameron that lifted the boycott in late 2012 andengaged closely with Modi since.Britain was the first western country to lift the boycott and soon othersfollowed suit. It was expected that Britain would thus be one of the first – ifnot the first – western country he would visit after the May 2014 elections, but that was not to be.The three-day visit starting Thursday will be the first prime ministerial visitsince Manmohan Singh’s in 2006.The visit is likely to have some of the resonances of Modi’s last visit to Londonin 2003, when groups staged protests amidst demands of his arrest. Hisscheduled visit in 2005 was cancelled due to security considerations.(Hindustan Times)

12.11.2015With visit to Britain, PM Modi seeks to bounce back from Bihar debacleModi's bilateral Nov. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address a mass rallyon a visit to Britain this week that supporters hope will help him spring backfrom the humiliating loss in the Bihar assembly elections and reassert hisauthority on the global stage.Modi's bilateral Nov. 12-14 visit, is the first by an Indian prime minister since2006. The centrepiece of Modi's visit trip will be a mass rally and fireworksdisplay at Wembley Stadium on Friday for an estimated 60,000 supporters -three times bigger than the crowd he drew to New York's Madison SquareGarden last year. The PM is keen to buy 20 more BAE Systems Hawk trainer aircraft that willbe made in Bengaluru.Modi and his supporters hope his visit will eclipse recent troubles at homethat include not just a loss in the Bihar assembly elections but also rumblingsof dissent within his party.Three senior BJP leaders, including former deputy prime minister L.K.Advani, released a statement late on Tuesday questioning the direction of theparty, which risks embarrassing Modi just ahead of his visit.
