Getty’s Editorial/Rights Reserved/Rights Managed Images Guideline Attribution for all editorial photos should be adjacent to the photo using the exact sequence Getty provides. This is normally written as: Photo by photographer/collection title/via Getty images. Example 1: In this example, above the image phosphorus cycle diagram, biogeochemical there is an Attribution in parenthesis. This is cycles normally written as in Getty as: Photo by photographer/collection title/via Getty images. Rights-Managed Attribution should be Photo by: Encyclopaedia Britannica/Universal Images Group via Getty Images Notice you do not use the parentheses.

Example 2: An example is where this is Portrait of George Washington different is because there is no information to pull from in the parentheses in Getty Rights-Managed Attribution should be Contributor Bettman/Collection Bettman/Getty Images Guidelines for edio Components Attribution for editorial and rights-managed images needs to be on the front end (learner facing) and back end of edio in the Source for citing field. For the front end (learner facing), some components have a place for captions and so this can be used; whereas, other components will require you to place the front end attribution in a text box in edio adjacent to the image or on top of the image directly so that it can be learner facing. The following components have caption fields for images: ● Block quotes ● Gallery ● Hotspot ● Image ● Timelines

● Category ● Hotspot Answer ● Hotspot Label Example from the Image Component In these two examples, there is a caption on the image but also the required Getty attribution for an editorial/rights-managed image. A hard return separates the caption from the attribution. Note: The attribution should be in italics and a return should be used between the caption and the attribution. Note: On the backend we have more Then, on the back end, use the Source for flexibility so we can keep all Source for citing citing field in edio: Created by consistent by using Created by. Arterra/Universal Images Group Getty Images - Getty Images-###### Source for citing field in edio: Created by Rolf Vennenberdnd/picture alliance Getty Images-1038843124 The following components do not have caption fields for images. For a multistep the attribution will be added at the bottom of the text box for each slide in italics. Otherwise, superimpose the attribution on the image. Technically this is modifying/editing the image but Getty gave permission that this is okay to not disrupt the learner’s experience. (Call with Nancy Sterling on October 20, 2021.) ● Multisteps

● Matching (matching images left or right) ● Multiple Choice (answers as images) ● Sortable Lists (list as images) ● Sketchpad (image on the sketchpad) ● Thumbnails (audio, supplemental content, video) Example from Multistep (not on the image but adjacent) In this example, there is not a place in this component for a caption but the attribution is written into the Body field after the content. Put the text in italics to match the format of other captions. Created by Encyclopaedia Britannica/Universal Images Group Getty Images - # Photography Courses Guideline Photography courses may require special treatment for Editorial and Rights-Managed Images from Getty since the captions are already robust and already include some of the same items. To avoid redundancy, the following is suggested for Photography course images: Current Caption Proposed Captions ● Below, the two elements of the photo that appear in parentheses on Getty’s site are taken out of the original caption, and they become the attribution on a separate line.

● Below is what it would look like if the Getty attribution and the current caption were merged. In this case, the words “Photo by” and “Images” after “Getty” were added. Art Course Guideline The only time this guideline would affect an art image is if a rights-managed image of artwork that was photographed by someone else was used, which is pretty rare. Most of the images

used in the art course are public domain images, so this Getty guideline would not apply to them.
