The most important social, political and historical events of the last century arerepresented, enabling us to explore our culturalidentity and connect with the past. The IFI Player is a virtual viewing room for theseremarkable collections, giving audiences across theglobe instant access to this rich heritage. Thematerial on the IFI Player has been selected to giveaudiences a taste of the breadth and depth of thecollections preserved by the Archive.

This project is the result of Click images to an extensive Digital watch video Preservation and Access Strategy developed over several years. When we are choosing titles for inclusion on the IFI Player there are a number of technical and practical considerations.Home movies, newsreels, travelogues, animations, feature films, public information films anddocumentaries have been included as we have triedto reflect all aspects of indigenous amateur andprofessional production. In addition to aiming to include a broad crosssection of the material we preserve, we alsohave to clear each film with the relevantcopyright holder and take into account anyconservation issues. The material in our collections goes through along process of management, preservationand digitisation before we are able to share itwith the public. The final clip of film thataudiences can access on the player, is theresult of months and even years of work byArchive staff.

The IFI Player is a significant step,, for us, as it truly democratizes access to our collections and we look forward to building on the content ovearn tdh ey ecaorms.i,n,g months - Kasandra O'Connell, Head of IFI Irish Film ArchiveImage: ONCE UPON A TRAM Click here to watch
