CHAIRMAN’S MESSAGE 1Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us. In one of my recent meetings with school leaders, we were all asked to share our thoughts and experiences regarding the year 2021. Everyone shared as to how gloomy the year was and how so many of their closest friends and relatives were so negatively affected by the pandemic. One of the youngest leaders summed it up in one sentence… “It was the toughest year of my life!” I could not disagree as we lost some of our close friends and relatives due the pandemic too; we saw families being reduced from lavish living to being made bankrupts and knew of so many who lost their jobs and the hope to move on. And yet, we cannot deny the truth that in all these, God was still watching over all of us and granting us journey mercies as we drove for miles to visit our loved ones and family; we saw His faithfulness in seeing us through each day by giving us good health and keeping our loved ones safe and secure; we experienced His Grace in so many ways that we found ourselves praying for the many uncertain situations in our nation and the world. We rested our Hope in Christ! The 60th Anniversary Celebration of TCF Malaysia on the 18th of September 2021 was focused on God’s Faithfulness in the ministry. We chose to consciously look beyond the pandemic and the inability to gather as we used to and decided to remind ourselves of His Goodness and Faithfulness in seeing us through 60 years as a ministry amongst Christian educators in Malaysia and beyond. We chose to fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfector of our faith who for the joy set before Him, endured the cross on our behalf. This is the hope that we live on and though 1

2021 was deemed by many as a year of severe trials and challenges, we saw God’s faithfulness and love carrying us through the year. The choice to sit and brood over the struggles and hardships or to rise above the circumstances with our hope anchored in Christ is ours. May I encourage us all to cling on to the assurances we have in His Word that every trial and suffering produces perseverance in us. Perseverance produces character and this Christ-like value establishes the hope we have in Him. As we soldier on in the coming years, let us continue to anchor ourselves in the promises and the hope that we have in Christ. Christ is in us, the Hope of Glory in our hearts. So let us rejoice for this hope NEVER Fails! He Knows, He Sees, He Understands! Blessings, Cheli Tamilselvam TCF Chairman 2

Indeed, unless the Lord builds the house, the labourers labour in vain. 2.3 Quoting John 15:5, Cheli encouraged all to continue to soldier on despite all that surrounds us with the assurance that it is He who called us into this wonderful ministry amongst Christian educators. 2.4 Cheli’s prayer is that the coming decade will be a decade of amazing deepening of our devotion and intimacy with God and TCF Malaysia will continue to Touch Lives and Change Futures! 3. 6.11 Sharing on IN STEP by Daniel Gan. 6.11.1 The first issue of IN STEP was published in 1989. Three issues of IN STEP were published per year from 1989 to 1992. From1993 onwards, except in 2011, 2017 and 2020, four issues of IN STEP were published in a year. 6.11.2 It started as a tabloid size magazine in 1989 and changed to notebook size from the 3rd issue of 2003 and finally to its current magazine size since 2013. 6.11.3 Some of the challenges faced in recent years were the difficulty in getting writers and contributors, increasing readership and higher cost in producing IN STEP. In 2019 it cost us RM3.19 per issue in printing cost and postage. In 2021, this increased to RM4.96 mostly due to the rising cost of postage. 6.11.4 Proposal for the future of In Step 6.11.4.1 Digitization of IN STEP starting with the last issue in 2021. There will not be hardcopy version of IN STEP. 6.11.4.2 In 2022, an article - either old or new- will be posted online once every forth night via TCF website, Facebook, Telegram or sent via email. 6.11.5 For the 60th Anniversary issue, issue 2 and 3 will be combined into an issue. 6.12 Indy shared on TCF membership according to age, 60 and above (47%), 50-59 (24%), 40-49 (13%), 30-39 (7%) and 20-29 (3%). 6.13 Indy thanked Peter Lim from Pristine World who generously gave many sets of books to all the participants at the teacher-trainee camps. These resources come in handy especially to our teachers posted to Sabah and Sarawak. 6.14 Indy thanked Randy Singkee from Wawasan Penabur who has also been generous in giving BM literature to our teacher-trainees. 6.15 Indy shared on John Liew and the work that he does in Marudi and Lizzie who is running Agape House in Sabah. 6.16 Indy asked TCF members to uphold in prayer our young teachers in challenging teaching environment. They need mentors too. 6.17 For future needs, TCF is looking for Teacher-Development Leaders (TLD) in various areas of ministry- teachers’ work in government schools, private schools & tertiary institutions, preschool, work in Sabah and Sarawak and Mandarin-speaking Christian teachers. There is also a vacancy for the post of TCF general secretary. 6.18 TCF values every member’s contribution and hopes that all will be involved in any way possible. 6

7. Election of Office Bearers 7.1 The election of office bearers was conducted by Indy. 7.2 Indy thanked Susan Tiang and Daniel Gan for their valuable contributions as EXCO members. 2021/2022 TCF Executive Committee Members Post Member Chairman Deputy Chairman Cheli Tamilselvam Minutes Secretary Treasurer Chew Mei Yee Publicity Secretary Committee Members Audrey Lui An Pei Auditors Pun Sow Fong Grace Yang Tan Lee Wah Teoh Jun Yong Ooi Vern Hau Kwan Siew Wai Tan Hong Sheng Agnes Nesa Malar A/P Kandan Xavier Christopher Tawi Anak Tibin Tan Get Kee Tan Yoke Sim 7.3 Audrey Kho proposed that the TCF EXCO line-up be passed, and it was seconded by Tan Seng Soon. 7.4 Boon Chye prayed for the 2021/2022 EXCO members. 8. 8.4 Mr. Yap shared on the proposals made at the AGM on 7 March 2020. 8.4.1 Proposal on mindset change We don’t stop serving at 60 as this allows members to be involved after retirement and in the process extends our resource pool. 8.4.2 Proposal on restructuring TCF for greater effectiveness. TCF cannot be depending on volunteers. There is a need to hire a few teachers development staff where there will be accountability. We need to pray in order to achieve this. 8.4.3 Proposal on financial policy God is the one who provides for us, and we need to depend on Him to meet our financial needs. We need to set aside a specific amount of money for each area of ministry to indicate our seriousness in appointing staff to spearhead the work. 8.5 In the past, we had regional representatives in different towns. Today, teachers at regional levels are the ones who initiate and organise activities for the teachers in their respective towns. 9. The AGM was adjourned at 4:15 p.m. Yap Kok Keong closed the meeting with a word of prayer. ………………………. ………………………….. (CHELI TAMILSELVAM) (AUDREY LUI AN PEI) Honorary Chairman Honorary Secretary 8

GENERAL-SECRETARY’S REPORT We are grateful to the Lord for enabling us to have activities for our members via zoom despite the numerous constraints in the pandemic. The highlight was definitely celebrating our 60th anniversary on 18 Sept 2021. Much time was spent organising the special anniversary edition as well as the video clip shown during the celebration. What a joyful event it was celebrating God’s faithfulness for 60 years! Here are some of the activities that we had since the 61st AGM. Core Recruitment Team At the last AGM, I flashed a PowerPoint slide that showed TCF membership according to age groups. A few TCF members were alarmed that only 3% of TCF members are below the age of 30 and only 7% are between 31 and 40 years old. A few of us quickly arranged to meet and discuss this immediately after the TCF AGM. Our TCF member in Penang, Siew Jian Bin volunteered to head this committee together with 9 other younger/young teachers. (Kwan Siew Wai, Esther Chang, Wong Chuu Whei, Chris Tawi, Tan Hong Sheng, Grace Yang, Agnes Nesamalar, Ooi Vern Hau and Vincent Lee). This committee was empowered to run activities on its own on the belief that the young ones can help draw other young teachers into the fellowship. “Let’s Walk This Journey Together” 7 Jun, 2021 – Ooi Vern Hau “The 7000” (1 Kings 19) 20 Jul 2021 – Kwan Siew Wai “Making Friends at Work” Aug 21, 2021 – Chew Mei Yee “Making Friends with Students” Oct 19, 2021 – Naomi Abbarrow “Serving in Rural Areas” 20 Nov, 2021 – John Liew and Heidi Chan The number of participants at each session varied with an average number of around 30. It is interesting to note that 5 to 10 IPG student teachers attended these sessions too. A special thanks to the committee as well as the speakers who shared their insights and experiences as teachers. Asian Christian Teachers’ Prayer Gatherings The Asian Christian Teachers’ Conference scheduled to be held in May 2020 was postponed when COVID 19 pandemic hit the world. Since then, Christian teachers in the region have been attending ACTC prayer gatherings organised as a lifeline for Christian teachers in the ASEAN region to intercede for one another. Each gathering had an average attendance of 25-30. Speakers from different countries were invited to share a short devotion. 12

23/1 Prayer gathering #6, Sharing on “Ripple Relationship” by Donna Mijares, TCF Philippines. 13/3 Prayer gathering #7, Sharing on “The Servant’s Priorities” by Herry Simarmata, TCF Indonesia. 8/5 Prayer gathering #8, Sharing on “Celebration in Tribulation” by Lady Lou, TCF Philippines. 26/6 Prayer gathering #9, Sharing on “Run Teacher Run” by Lim Boon Chye, TCF Malaysia. 14/8 Prayer meeting #10, Sharing on “Christ Over Chaos” by V. En Thang, Founder of Life Academy, Myanmar. 9/10 Prayer gathering #11, Sharing on “From Generation to Generation” by Lim Tou Boon (Programme Director of E2STEM Education), Cambodia. 11/12 Prayer gathering #12, Sharing on, “O Come, O Come Emmanuel” by Lucy Tay, Chair of TCF Singapore. 26 /2 Prayer gathering #13, Sharing on “Water to Wine-Waiting for God’s Miracle” by Prof Alfredo B. Diaz. One of our TCF EXCO members, Ooi Vern Hau was very much encouraged and edified at each of the prayer sessions that he attended. He wrote, “It was good to be reminded of God's promise to us in the midst of the uncertainties, \"the Lord Himself will go before us\" (Deuteronomy 31:8). “We got to know more about the needs of the other countries and also realised that we are not alone in facing the new challenges in the education field brought by the pandemic. It was also very helpful to pray in breakout rooms of 4-5, as we got to meet new people and uphold the specific needs of one another.” Student-Teachers’ Ministry I was personally thrilled to work alongside the IPG organising committee under the leadership of Joseph Liew (IPG Pulau Pinang) and Vincent Lee (IPG Tengku Ampuan Afzan Kuala Lipis). Meeting the committee online was personally exciting as I saw a dynamic and committed group of student-teachers. The zoom online platform enabled them to organise two national level events successfully. 1. National IPG Online Camp Date: 13-14 Aug 2021 Theme: Run in Such a Way 391 student-teachers from 17 IPG campuses attended this online camp. 13

Day 1 – Theme talk by Cheli Tamilselvam followed by discussion in breakout rooms. Day 2 – Forum panellists were Dr Ng Kee Chuan, Teoh Jun Yong, Tan Lee Wah and Marcus Khoo. Chew Mei Yee was the moderator. Feedback:- Many things like family gatherings, school, work and travel have looked different for quite a while. The biennial Inter-IPG CF Camp at MCKL was replaced by the online Inter-IPG CF Camp 2021. It was the first virtual camp organised by 10 committee members which comprised CF students from various IPGs. It was also the first time most of the CF advisers met to encourage and share God’s work in their various institutes of teacher education. We see God’s continued grace in grooming youths to be leaders in this camp. Indeed many were encouraged by the fellowship with one another and the sharing by Mr Cheli to “Run in Such a Way’ has strengthened the faith of camp participants. Madam Lee and Madam Teong Mee Mee Lecturers It was a golden opportunity to network with peers from other IPGs. Through this platform, we know that as Christian IPG teacher trainees, we are not alone. The theme talks and breakout sessions gave us more relevant and deeper insights on how and why we should always be strong in our faith throughout our IPG journey as well as throughout our future teaching career. Isaac IPGK Bahasa Antarabangsa Committee/ Secretary 2. IPG Bible Knowledge Quiz 2022 Objectives a) To raise the awareness of Christian trainee teachers on the importance of studying God’s Word. b) To help Christian trainee teachers gain merits for the spiritual aspect (kerohanian) in the IPG system (MySMP). c) To evaluate the effectiveness of the Bible Study Programme: Journey with Luke. 14

Scope and format of IPG BK Quiz a) Text tested for the quiz is Luke 1 to 24. b) There were 50 multiple-choice questions. (Total score: 100%). c) There were three categories in the quiz. Category A - English (Good News Translation). Category B - Bahasa Melayu (Alkitab Borneo Version). Category C - Mandarin (Chinese Union Version, 和合本). Participants could choose to participate in only one of the categories above. Analysis of quiz participation Total IPGs involved: 15 Total Registration: 188 Total Participants: 165 English – 31 (18.8%) Malay – 71 (43%) Mandarin – 63 (38.2 %) We are grateful to the IPG lecturers who are mentoring their trainees in the various IPGs as well as in leading this Bible study programme. A special thanks to Peter Lim of Pristine World and Dr Ng Kee Chuan for their assistance in this quiz. And last but not least to the organising committee members who worked tirelessly in making this event a success! 15

Reviving TCF Preschool Ministry A pro-tem committee comprising Mr Yap Kok Keong, Eveleen Ling, Datin Indranee Liew, Celeste Choo, Rosalind and Indy met a couple of times over zoom to brainstorm on how to revive this area of ministry. Rationale to revive TCF preschool ministry 1. Preschool teachers are educators and therefore they fall within the constitutional responsibility of TCF ministry. 2. Preschool age is the most critical phase of a child’s development and early childhood educators are arguably the most important influencers of a child’s development. Therefore, preschool teachers constitute a vital segment of educators that TCF should reach out to. 3. The KPM has set ambitious targets for preschool education as outlined in the Education Blueprint. 4. There are ECE training centres across the country, offering diplomas and degree courses. Many of the graduates are Christians and are teaching in many ECE centres across the country. They should be helped to see their role as a calling - to be the light and salt in the preschools they are teaching in. 5. Their challenges and needs are many. They should be brought into TCF and receive encouragement and help. 6. Reaching out and ministering to ECE teachers is not a new initiative. TCF has had a vibrant preschool teachers' ministry with a specially designated staff- worker 25 years ago. TCF is just re-entering the ECE world. We sent a survey to 17 principals of the English Methodist preschools and 11 TCF members to gauge the needs before deciding on any webinars for preschool teachers. In the Google survey form, they were to choose the kind of training they wanted in terms of priority. Unfortunately, the response was very poor. The committee will be contacting our current preschool members and looking into the recruitment of new members. TCF has invited Datin Indranee Liew to conduct a webinar on “Classroom Behaviour Management in Preschools” on 9 April 2022. We are also looking to employ a fulltime staff to look into our preschool ministry. Please pray that the Lord will provide us with a suitable candidate. 16

TCF 60th Anniversary Celebration We celebrated our 60th anniversary, a momentous occasion on 18th September through Zoom. The event focused on celebrating God’s faithfulness throughout the decades and more than 300 people gathered from all across Malaysia. We were privileged to have Dr Alastair Mcgregor, one of TCF’s founding members, join us from Australia. The event was organised by 7 EXCO members who worked together with Indy and Rosalind to ensure the event was meaningful and fun. The event was a mix of looking back at the journey of TCF over the years and our direction moving forward. It was great to open our 50th Anniversary time capsule and hear the testimonies of many TCF members. The theme of God’s faithfulness rang true in everyone’s sharing, including the exhortation shared by Cheli. Mei Yee also shared briefly on the future of TCF and everyone had the opportunity to preserve an artifact in our online time capsule. Overall, it was a memorable celebration for all and we are so grateful to God that we were able to celebrate together with so many members. Thank you for celebrating with us! If you wish, you may watch a recording of the celebration at this link: https://bit.ly/TCF60anniversary. TCF 60th Anniversary Coordinator Chew Mei Yee Conclusion Thank you so much for your support, gifts, prayers and invaluable partnership. This is my second year back at work as a contract staff.
