1MESSAGE ABHYUDAYAI take immense pleasure in partaking the joy of being a member of the Sardar Patel University BiologicalSociety. The SPUBS is now fifty six year old young spirit, working tirelessly to infuse the young minds, year afteryear, with fresh ideas and encouraging the family traditions. The SPUBS christened this year as Abhyudaya(अभ्युदय-Sunrise, Increase, Elevation) - an apt cognomen to achieve the goals set forth.I am glad that the council members have lined up an ambitious schedule of events for the academic year. It isexhilarating to know that SPUBS is now involving many members to serve the community and willing to takeup the challenges. I am sure this group will keep the spirits of SPUBS high and will earn laurels from all.My best wishes to all the SPUBS members.Dr A V R L N AcharyaPresidentSPUBS56-AbhyUdaya 2016 MESSAGE | SPUBS56—ABHYUDAYA 2016

2MESSAGEIt gives me immense pleasure to be with SPUBS at 56th year. In fact I have always been with SPUBS. MESSAGE 3Our own SPUBS, belonging to past, present and future students of Biosciences, is a platform to expressourselves. The moto is love, unity, friendliness. Ordinarily it seems to be an avenue for some students’ activitiesbut it has a deeper essence to it. This society has been lively for more than half a century now. The kind ofcelebrations it has witnessed and offered has a tremendous range, be it festivals, parties or dances, annual day, teachers’ day or science day. The SPUBS has brought everyone together, on a single platform, nullifyingpositions and inhibitions. The teachers, student, head, office staff, technical staff, peons, all are members andthat is how the distances vanish. All play games on sports day, learn from guest lectures, dance on garba tunes, pray on Ganesh puja , enjoy the parties, sing, run, laugh and eat, TOGETHER.This is the spirit of SPUBS. Our years in department are finite but the spirit stays, forever. Past students havevery fond memories of SPUBS. Whenever they meet, one question is asked without exception, ‘’SPUBS में क्याचल रहा है”?All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. Besides giving a platform to display talents, SPUBS provides bestof learning experiences for every student, from event management to dealing with people to socialaccommodation to considering others to appreciation for all to concern for environment to grow within. Mostimportantly, SPUBS is limitless like sky.....So get on and get going, your time starts now.....

We are thrilled to launch officially on Saturday morning, 30 July, 2016with several new regular and one time contributors. You will be meeting them a couple at a time over the restof the year.To kick things off, we are first presenting a blueprint to guide and succeed us in the direction of theestablishment in ABHYUDAYA 2016. Our president, Vice president and Teacher-in charges are admirablepersonalities of the kind of vision and assistance we were hoping for when we decided to start this venture. As Henri Frederic Amiel, says ‘For the purposes of action nothing is more useful than narrowness of thoughtcombined with energy of will.’ Following the footsteps, all our teams are working firmly to achieve the norms ofexcellence to carry forward a potential of this society. We are feeling proud to receive an esteemed critical attention and enthusiasm about the impact that is shapingthe lives in this social order of natural history. Our motto is to awake, enhance and reflect the diversity ofSPUBS’ student body.We are eager to hear from you in whatever forms suits you. Share your feedback, join the conversation on ourInstagram, twitter, Facebook and google plus pages.Thank you very much for checking in. we look forward to hear what you think. In the meantime -Welcome to this new beginning!!!Vishakha PawarEditor-in-chiefWallMag AbhyUdaya 2016 MESSAGE | SPUBS56—ABHYUDAYA 2016

6SPUBS56-General Secretary-2016Dear SPUBS Members,I may start my statement with a parlance- “leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.”- That ismy job. That is our job. I feel privileged to lead the flock of this society in the year 2016, with your choicestblessings. As wisely said, “TEAM” means ‘Together Everyone Achieves More.’ Along with superlative minds, the journeywould be exciting for us all. Predecessors accelerated our passion by sharing their experiences and theirthoughts. I must say, here, we are in euphoria to get an opportunity to hold the responsibility of the entirestudent body on the eve of SPUBS56-AbhyUdaya-2016.It is known fact that the path of doing something good is not a bed of roses. We are ought to encounter lots ofhindrances but the mesmerizing enthusiasm and splendid devotion that I have seen in the SPUBS members isthe fuel that will keep us moving ahead. There is one question - Why are we here?Answer is simple - self-satisfaction! I truly believe that this society has the heritage of 55 golden years, itdemands more eminence and acknowledgement. And we want to have it. Men are mesmerized by the vastnessof immortality. So we ask ourselves – will our action echo through the years? Will our juniors remember ourname long after we are gone? In a few words, let’s join hands together, to enhance the sustainable growth, toproduce a comfortable environment for students and a platform where they can showcase their potential. This department is our family; we need to nurture it with care. Because sometimes you will never know thevalue of a moment until it becomes a memory! MESSAGE | SPUBS56—ABHYUDAYA 2016

23History Sardar Patel university is named after one of the greatest and most illustrious sons of India ''SARDAR VALLABHBHAI PATEL'' comprises of UG,PG and PHD department ,in which it includes all the faculties required by the students. During initial years of the development there was only one field running which was inaugurated by Dr. M. S. Swaminathan and its 1st batch came out in 1958. The main aim was to establish high standards of teaching and research at elevate it to an international level. During this years, there was also a formation of the most important biological society i.e. SPUBS, The main aim was to give platform by bringing out the talent using extracaculicular activities and to unite all the fields of bioscience. During 1977 with the reorganization of enormous potential of the department New Delhi had funded in department to expand the scope with two new courses i.e. was M.Sc. life science and M.Sc. Microbiology; in this way one or other courses were introduced and this expansion enable the department to keep pace with the subjects of biological science. Later in 2005, department had been shifted to present building and named it as BRD SCHOOL OF BIOSCIENCE which now runs both M.Sc. and PhD programs. The dream of founder members was to grow department in to pride and honor. Through continue efforts of all the faculties till today, they have made it to grow to such a higher level. In this department research is given a high priority both for its own sake, and to ensure that department teaching is based on best possible understanding of life process in microorganisms, plants and animals. This multidisciplinary approach envisages the basic and applied research in to this structural and molecular organizations, physiology and biochemistry of growth and development of organisms HISTORY | SPUBS56-ABHYUDAYA 2016
