ESSAY FOR JAFFNA HINDU COLLEGE. Jaffna Hindu College is a national school in Jaffna, Sri Lanka. Background From the beginning of the 19th century, all the schools established in Jaffna were run by Christian Missionaries. These schools introduced the Menat system of education. These schools, which imparted education through the medium of English, had the main objective of spreading Christianity. Against this, Arumuga Navalar was the first to act with the determination to educate Tamil students on their cultural background. He created Saiva Tamil schools for this purpose. However, these did not bring the expected success. Considering the circumstances prevailing at that time, it was felt that the native culture should be highlighted while maintaining the Manat education system and English education. The Jaffna Saiva Paripalana Sabha, formed in 1888 by the efforts of Arumukha Navalar, had as one of its aims to create English medium education schools in the Hindu religious environment. However, the establishment of such schools was impossible due to the opposition of the Christian missions. The intention of the local people to start such a school was fulfilled unexpectedly. In 1887, William Nevins Muthukumaru Chidambarapillai, a Tamil Christian from Jaffna, started an English school under the name of Native Town High School on his own without any Christian mission connections. This school was set up in the Main Street area of Jaffna which is a predominantly Christian area. However, due to the economic problem in running this, one of the well-known lawyers in Jaffna at that time, S. Chidambarapilla sought a companion named Nagalingam. Accepting it, Nagalingam became its custodian and took great interest in its activities. Chidambarapillai completely handed over the school to Nagalingam in 1889. Nagalingam, the new owner of the school, shifted the school to the Vannarpana area where the local Hindu population was the majority. Its name was also changed to Nagalingam Town High School. Nagalingam is Hindu. He was a pioneer in the formation of Saiva Paripalana Sabha. he wanted to bring his school under the management of Saiva Paripalana Sabha. Accordingly, on 19 August 1890, the president of the council, T. Chellapillai. The executive committee of the council headed by Chellappillai decided to take charge of the school. The name of the school was also changed to Hindu High School in the same year and it was moved to a temporary building at its present location. Nagalingam himself took charge as its first manager. In 1892 William Chidambarapillai's son N. Selvathurai became its chief editor. The school needed permanent buildings. The land was purchased for this purpose. Funds for the buildings were raised from house to house in the county. Hindu businessmen also generously helped. The building was inaugurated on September 28, 18andhich is still standing after 100 years. In November, 909, N. Selvarai transferred to Kandy Trinity College as Headmaster. G. G. Shiva Rau became the Principal of Hindu College. On May 30, 1910, the Boarding House was inaugurated in the college. From Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi to today's Guru Sriravisankar, many spiritual giants have visited Jaffna Hindu College and delivered lectures. In today’s climate of school accountability, it is of paramount importance for educators to search for ways to improve student achievement. Jaffna Hindu College is a leading National school in the Jaffna district. 2315 students are studying in this school. Students are selected for this school l on a merit-based. Most of the students passed the Grade-5 examination. Students’ G.C.E (O/L) achievement is also at a satisfactory level. In the last two years, this school obtained 100% pass in G.C.E (O/L).
MY FAVOURITE GAME IS CRICKET. Cricket is my favorite game because it is played in every institution and it is one of the most loved sports. It is the most exciting game in our country and is also played in many countries worldwide. Cricket is one of the most popular games played in India for children and adults. It is a fascinating game in our country, and it is played in many countries of the world. It is a well- known game played by many countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Australia, England, and South Africa. Cricket is played between two teams of 11 players each, who play bat and bowl. The two main players in the game are the batsman and the other bowler. When a batsman plays, he gets his wicket, and the bowler throws the ball back to his bowler when the over is complete. In the two cricket teams (11 players), two referees keep an eye on the errors in the game and rotate the batsmen and bowlers depending on their decision, or it is defined as a throw, depending on a coin toss. Playing outdoor games is vital for the physical education and growth of children. It increases their activity power and makes them more vigilant in body and minds. For this reason, many educational institutions encourage drill sessions and extra-curricular activities like sports in their curriculum. BOOKS ARE MY BEST FRIENDS Books are our best friends, there is a saying. Books are the ones that give us an enormous amount of knowledge. We go to school and learn a lot of new stuff. We are taught a lot of things and we are told some things. But to completely understand all concepts in the subjects, we need to read and consult the books. The people who tell, teach or advise us are not always there with us. But books are always with us. We can refer to them and clarify our doubts or remind ourselves of Books may be costly to buy. But good books are worth more than the money. They give something more than money can give. When we are traveling and have to spend time on some point we have forgotten or learned a point that we have not looked into so far. journey, it is good to read books. When we are at home and have nothing very important or urgent to do, it is better to read books. The time is well spent and we gain interesting things. We need to put the books to good use. We need to organize them well. We need to read the right kind of books at the right time. Often some people with disturbed minds try to read the great and sacred epics like Ramayana or some Sthothras of Gods to keep their minds occupied and to regain peace of mind Books written by great persons generate noble thoughts in us. They give us analytical skills. They help in the conceptualization of concepts and practical problems. People sometimes ridicule some serious book readers. It is important to be practical in applying the knowledge gained from the books and not just remain readers. Good use of books means learning the appropriate knowledge, let it be technical, language skills, general knowledge, or fun-related stuff. We shine with a bright face and have more confidence in ourselves when using the. It is also very important to note down important points, thoughts, doubts, or footnotes in a good notebook when we read the book. We should use the books carefully without damaging them. We should keep them safe from a wet environment and keep them away from dust. We should not make a lot of drawings or funny and crazy remarks on the books, ridiculing anybody or any concept. One good advantage of using books is that we can select what we want, we can read what we want and whenever we want. In the modern world, books are also changing their appearance from hard copies in paperbacks to ebooks on the Internet. It depends on
whether we are comfortable reading a hard copy or a soft copy on the computer. Finally, I will say that we have progressed in this age this much because of the great laws, concepts, sciences, thoughts, inventions, discoveries, and efforts that were documented by our ancestors in the form of books. Those books have accelerated the progress of our civilization. ESSAY ABOUT ABRAHAM LINCOLN. Born on 12th February 1809 as the second child to Thomas Lincoln and Nancy Hanks, two uneducated farmers in a one-room log cabin on Sinking Spring farm in Kentucky, young Lincoln had humble roots. Lincoln’s paternal grandfather, Abraham, whom Lincoln was named after, had moved his family from Virginia to Kentucky. His parents belonged to a Baptist Church and had pulled away from a larger Church because they refused to support slavery. Thus, from a very young age, he was exposed to anti-slavery sentiment. At a very young age of 9 years, his mother passed away due to milk sickness. His older sister Sarah took to looking after him until their father remarried in 1819, but she too died during childbirth in her late 20s. is the father then remarried and Lincoln became close to his stepmother Sarah Bush Johnston. Lincoln began his political career in 1832, at the age of 23, with an unsuccessful campaign for the Illinois General Assembly as a member of the Whig Party. In 1834, he won the election to the State Legislature and after coming across the commentaries on the laws of England, he taught himself law. After developing a reputation as a formidable adversary during cross-examination of witnesses and in closing arguments, Lincoln became one of the most respected and successful lawyers in Illinois. In 1836, he was admitted to the bar and started practicing law under John T Stuart. In 1837, he made his first protest against slavery in the Illinois House which later lead to the abolition of slavery. In 1851, he represented Alton and Sangamon Railroad in a dispute and the original charter was modified in the public interest to prova ide cheaper, superior routes Slavery was still prevalent, as it was legal. The Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854, which repealed the limits on the spread of slavery drew Lincoln back into politics. On 27th February 1860, New York Party leaders invited Lincoln for a speech to a group of republicans. He didn’t have a flattering appearance, yet Noah Brooks, a journalist, said: “No man ever before made such an impression on his first appeal to a New York audience.” Lincoln’s supporters described him as the ‘Rail Candidate’. He was named so because of his humble background. Before Lincoln pursued law and politics, he used to do several odd jobs to earn money and one of them was the job of a rail splitter. He was a candidate for the ‘common man Lincoln was steadily strengthening his position in politics. He entered the presidential nomination process as a distinct underdog and was eventually chosen as the Republican candidate for the 1860 election. Finally, on 6th November 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16th President of the United States. Lincoln’s major contribution as President was that he helped preserve the United States’ integrity and sovereignty, by leading the defeat of the secessionist confederacy in the American Civil War. He borrowed and studied Henry Hallock’s book, Elements of Military Art and Science’, to be aware of technical military terminologies. Moreover, he introduced measures that resulted in the abolition of slavery. He issued his Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 and promoted the passage of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution in 1865. This eventually led to the negation of slavery in the United States. However, anti-war leadcriticizedised him for refusing to compromise on slavery. On the other hand, radical republicans criticized him for moving too slowly in abolishing slavery.

The waterfalls are so cool, just like a swimming pool. I love nature, that is so tall in stature!
STORIES 1. BEATRIX POTTER Beatrix was born in 1866. She and her brother kept many small animals as pets – rabbits, hedgehogs, guinea pigs, mice, frogs, and even bats! They both liked to draw their pets, but Beatrix liked drawing animals from her imagination the most. She also loved exploring and drawing nature when they visited beautiful places like Scotland and the Lake District. Beatrix was very smart and studied archaeological artifacts, fossils, and insects, but she was especially interested in mycology – the study of mushrooms! She even wrote a scientific paper about it, but women couldn’t be scientists at that time. To earn some money, Beatrix started drawing cards with animals. She liked writing and illustrating letters too. One day, she wrote a letter to her friend’s son and told the story of Peter Rabbit. She decided to make the story into a book. The Tale of Peter Rabbit was published in 1902 – and it was a great success! She wrote, illustrated, and published many more books. She also created dolls, painting books, games, and other items based on her characters. In 1905, Beatrix bought a farm in the Lake District. She learned about farming and bought more farms and land to help preserve the landscape. She enjoyed country life very much and was very active in protecting the environment. When Beatrix died, she left almost all her farms and land to the National Trust, a charity that protects historic places and landscapes. You can even visit Hill Top Farm today, which is exactly like it was when Beatrix lived there! So if you haven’t read The Tale of Peter Rabbit or other Beatrix Potter books, why not visit your local library or bookshop today? 2. ALI AND A MAGIC CARPET One very hot day Ali finds a carpet in his uncle’s shop. ‘What’s this?’ Suddenly the carpet jumps! It moves and flies off into the air. ‘Hey! What’s happening?’ A loud booming voice comes from the carpet. ‘Welcome, O master. I am a magic carpet.’ First, they fly high up into the sky and then they land in a jungle. It is hot and wet and it’s raining. ‘It’s raining! Yuck!’ Then they fly to the desert. It is very, very hot and dry. ‘It is very, very hot today!’ After that, they fly to the South Pole. There is lots of ice and snow. It’s freezing. ‘Brrr!’ ‘Where are we now? I can’t see!’ ‘In the mountains. Can you see me?’ ‘It’s very foggy.’ Then they fly to a forest. It’s very windy there. ‘Oh, it’s windy in the forest!’ Then they fly to an island in the sea. There is thunder and lightning.
‘Aaagh! Let’s go home!’ ‘What a storm!’ Finally, they fly back home. The carpet lands in the shop and Ali gets off. ‘ Wow!
