Head on down to Amaya Saujana Condominiumat Saujana Subang, Petaling Jaya and look for Petiteserie Desserts whichis located just inside the residence. The name \"Petiteserie\" is a play onJanice Siew Jan Lin's petite-sized sweet morsels that are made with localingredients using French baking techniques that she mastered at Le CordonBleu. For example, the nutty Gula Melaka Banana was inspired by her favouriteMalaysian delicacies; deep fried banana fritters. But those who prefer Frenchclassics can still savour the Salted Caramel Chocolate that has a rich chocolatefilling yet is not too sweet or the Strawberry that simply melts in your mouthupon the first taste. Petiteserie desserts also provide 100% butter croissantsand danish pastries freshly baked every day from 2pm onwards. They alsoserve lunch from 12pm onwards serving rice and pastas using their very ownhomemade sauces. Besides that, its confections are supplied to cafes aroundthe Klang Valley including Battery Acid Club and Flingstones Cafe.Opening Hours: Daily,12 :00pm-7:00pmWebsite: www.petiteseriedesserts.com 117
Night out Nightlife in Klang Valley As the working day winds down and the sun sets in the horizon, Malaysian cities such as Selangor take on a different rhythm completely. While many larger cities in Malaysia have a nightlife scene to varying degrees, for the real movers and shakers scene, unsurprisingly Klang Valley is the place to be. In fact, when the sun goes down, the neon lights come up and Klang Valley comes alive with the hip and happening. The atmosphere is electric, with hints of an out of control carnival. Best of all, there are plenty of places to go for a quick bite after a night of merry dancing and drinking. The clubs are mainly Chinese patrons, but you will find visitors from all walks of life as well. To immerse yourself into the scene, all you have to do is sit down at one of the tables and wait for it to come to you! Getting to the clubs is easy by taxi, and even easier if you climb aboard the LRT. Get off at the designated station and all of these places are just a short walk away.118

TRANSPORTATATION Motoring in Malaysia One of the most enjoyable things about living in Malaysia is the country is served by an excellent transport system. Once you are in the country, there is always transport available to you to even remote areas. Traveling by road in Peninsula Malaysia is popular as the open roads take you through vibrant cities, coastal stretches, past highland mists and verdant jungles. Like most countries in Southeast Asia, Malaysia offers various transport options to you to even remote areas. The KL monorail, light transit railway (LRT) and Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTM) are some of the options available for you to get to a destination. Buses such as Rapid KL and KL Hop On Hop Off are generally depended on convenience but it is also one of the best ways to see the sights as you travel. Many visitors start driving in Malaysia without familarising themselves with the local rules and regulations, let alone the local driving style, which can make for a very frustrating learning curve. This is because Malaysian drivers are not known for their courtesy or predictability, so foreign visitors are advised to read about the safety and legal regulations on the road and take their time in learning the ropes before embarking on Malaysian roads. 128
KTM Komuter TRANSPORTATATIONKTM Komuter's 217km railway networkhas 53 stations. It consists of twolines, namely the Sentul to Port Klang(Pelabuhan Klang) line and Rawangto Seremban line, as well as a shuttleservice from Rawang station toTanjung Malim station which was firstlaunched on 21 April 2007.www.ktmb.com.my 03-22671200Light Railway Transit (LRT)Kuala Lumpur's light rail transit (LRT)system connects some key districtswhere banks, offices, hotels andshopping malls are concentrated.MonorailThe KL Monorail serves 11 stationslocated along the southeast andnortheast regions of Kuala Lumpur. TRAVEL GUIDE Checklist 1st before To-Go! Tens of thousands of tourists and localians travel inbound and abroad. For most this is an incident-free experience but the best laid plans can be upset by a number of problems. Some are impossible to foresee or avoid so, by planning ahead and arming yourself with the right information, you can reduce the risks you might encounter overseas. Here are some tips before your-GO! Getting started Check that your passport are valid (your family’s too). The process of applying for a visa may take several months and some countries require at least six months of passport validity to issue a visa, so be careful. Find out if you and/or family members need a visa and make the application as soon as possible if you do. Getting ready to go Buy your tickets and make any necessary reservations for your trip. Check if you need an international driving license (remember that it is valid for only one year and it cannot be renewed, you must apply for it again). Make sure you and your pet have all the vaccines required to travel abroad. It may be required that your pet goes into quarantine. Arrange your travel insurance and your health insurance abroad (do not forget all other family members). Check whether your contributions towards your pension are recognized in the country you are moving to. Make sure that you and your family get medical and dental examinations, take a copy of the results. Also take documents that prove and describe your insurance cover. If you are renting a house, tell your landlord. Under many contracts you are required to give notice several months in advance. Sell anything that you are not taking with you (cars, furniture, property, etc.). Otherwise you can ask friends to take care of it or put it in a deposit. If you are leaving for a long period, perhaps you should give “powers of attorney” over your financial affairs to someone while you are absent. 130
Last things Checklist 1st before To-Go!Cancel your utilities in advance: electricity, gas, oil, water, telephone (also TRAVEL GUIDEyour mobile) and internet.Cancel your subscription to any clubs, associations, courses, newspapers, etc.Close your bank accounts unless you think that you will use them.Inform the tax authorities that you are leaving.Give your new address to your friends, family and business associates.Redirect your mail through the Post Office.Pay all outstanding bills and loans before you leave the country. Giveback any money you borrowed from friends. 131

Prohibited items include weapons (including imitations), fireworks, ‘obscene and prejudicial articles’ (pornography, for example, and items that may be considered inflammatory or religiously offensive) and drugs. Drug smuggling carries the death penalty in Malaysia. Visitors can carry only RM1000 in and out of Malaysia; there’s no limit on foreign currency. Gay & Lesbian Travellers Malaysia is a predominantly Muslim country and the level of tolerance for homosexuality is vastly different from its neighbours. Sex between men is illegal at any age and syariah Islamic laws (which apply only to Muslims) forbid sodomy and cross-dressing. Fortunately, outright persecution of gays and lesbians is rare. Nonetheless, gay and lesbian travellers should avoid behavior that attracts unwanted attention. Malaysians are quite conservative about displays of public affection. Although same-sex handholding is quite common for men and women, this is rarely an indication of sexuality; an overtly gay couple doing the same would attract attention, though there is little risk of vocal or aggressive homophobia There’s actually a fairly active gay scene in KL. The lesbian scene is more discreet, but it exists for those willing to seek it out. The PT Foundation is a voluntary nonprofit organisation providing education on HIV/AIDS and sexuality and care and support programmes for marginalised communities in Malaysia.132
