But, Lnever judge a book by its cover, as the old saying goes. The moment you step foot into the house, you will be impressed by its surroundings beautifully decorated in warm shades of bright green and orange. Its interior beckons though it may look simple. Paintings are hung on the walls and are open for sale. There are three sections in the house, with each displaying its unique features. Located in the living room, Malay Hall has its tables covered with colourful cotton batik fabrics and its window covered with batik cloth. Chinese Room is signifi cant with its hanging antique candle holders and its marble tables with brocaded table runners, while Indian Room has brass bells on each table and saris on the ceiling. On the whole, Rumah Ku makes itself a homely ambience, suitable for eating out with family. What makes this restaurant extraordinary is its fantastic cuisine, with an extensive menu of home-cooked Indian, Chinese and Malay delights under one roof. Most of the food on the menu is hot and spicy. The signature dishes include Indonesian Style Prawn, Mutton Porial, Special Mixed Vegetables with Lotus Root, Yam Basket with Braised Chicken and Marmite Chicken. Indonesian Style Prawn with curry, which surprisingly adds a distinctive fl avour to the dish though the curry is made without the presence of coconut milk but of evaporated milk, appears to be very tempting. Special Mixed Vegetables with lotus roots, water chestnuts, caulifl owers, carrots and peas is a delightful yet healthy dish. Meanwhile, Mutton Porial, which is stir-fried with dry curry spices, is aromatic and full of fl avour while the meat is tender and boneless. The prices can be quite reasonable considering the wonderful setting and the food quality. Above all, all the dishes in Rumah Ku are prepared without the presence of monosodium glutamate (a very common fl avour enhancer used in most dishes in Malaysia), hence promosing you a healthy diet.
