History of Kuala Kubu The town of Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB), also known as Kuala Kubu was an active tin mining area when it was established in the 1870s. Kuala Kubu was given its name because Raja Mahadi and his followers used this place as a fortress. However, after the British commissioner's arrival in the 1870s, Cha rles Compto n Rea d e Kuala Kubu became Ulu Selangor's administrative base, which also acted as a tax collection centre for mining activities. The initial structure was built in Ampang Pechah, Kuala Kubu (Kuala Kubu Lama) and was destroyed in the great flood that happened in 1926. Later the government allocated half-acre land when the new town of KKB was formed. The new Gurdwara was opened to the public in 1931. Hiking Bukit Kutu Bukit Kutu is an attractive location for hiking enthusiasts, trail runners and those who want to tame hiking. There are several junctions in the forest leading to the top that can take you far from the city. It is close to Kuala Lumpur so it is easy for travelers to get there, but you should go up with someone who knows the ins and outs. Bukit Kutu is a 10.0 kilometre moderately trunked trail which features a waterfall and is considered difficult. The trail is mostly used for hiking. Bukit Batu Pahat Bukit Batu Pahat’s flat peak makes it the perfect spot for paragliders. But it’s a different story for hikers. Though one cannot deny the scenic view when you reach the peak, the way up isn’t for the faint of heart. This is because the trail is steep and a bit muddy. 16
HULU SELANGOR INTERNATIONAL EVENT KING OF MOUNTAIN (KOM) Kayuhan Raja Bukit @ King of Mountain The Kayuhan Raja Bukit Hulu Selangor is an annual cycling event hosted by the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS). The distance of cycling is 40km. Initially, there were two routes: Kuala Kubu Bharu- Genting Highlands and Kuala Kubu Bharu- Fraser’s Hill. The locations were alternated, but in recent times they only use the Kuala Kubu Bharu- Fraser’s Hill track. In 2006, a whopping 1,700 participants took part in the event. The biggest group was Team Sapura Cycling. The categories are as follows: CYCLE DISTANCE BY CATEGORY (COLLECTED TOTAL) Uno (individual) - Minimum 40km. Duo (2 people in groups) - Minimum 80km. Quattro (4 people in groups) - Minimum 160km. 17
HULU SELANGOR ULTRA TRAIL (HSUT) HULU SELANGOR ULTRA TRAIL (HSUT) is a marathon, organised by the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS). Hulu Selangor is one of the most popular natural destinations and is located in the north-eastern part of Selangor. The trail will cross the Bukit Batu Pahat, Gerachi Jaya, Semangkok Pass, Kampung Pertak, Bukit Kutu peaks, Bukit Kutu Ruins, Kampung Buluh Telor, Ampang Pechah and Lata Medang, which are part of the country's emblematic heritage site and have seen one of the most impressive waterfalls in Selangor. Challenging race routes are planned for all participants, both new and experienced. Participants may choose the appropriate category according to their fitness level. Those who obtain a certain amount of points will be eligible to compete in the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB) which is, hosted in France. It is the world's premier mountain ultramarathon. 18
WINGS OF KKB : SELANGOR INTERNATIONAL BIRD FAIR Wings of KKB The wings of KKB is an annual bird-watching event hosted jointly by the Hulu Selangor District Council and Hulu Selangor Recreation and Tourism Club. The event is usually held at two locations; the Selangor Heritage Park and KKB town. 19
PARAGLIDING INTERNATIONAL EVENT KKB Paragliding Park For those with an adventurous heart, Kuala Kubu Bharu presents the best of extreme sports. KKB Paragliding Park has been the location for the organization of national and international paragliding sports tournaments such as KKB Open 2015 (March 2015) and Paragliding Accuracy World Championship (PGAWC) Series 2/2015. PGAWC has recorded the participation of 100 participants from 14 countries including Bulgaria, China, Iceland, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Philippines, Malaysia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, Taiwan and Thailand. Waterfall Sungai Chiling The scenic Sungai Chiling is situated in the Sungai Chiling Fish Sanctuary, a fisheries research project run by the Department of Fisheries of Selangor State. Chiling Waterfall is one of Selangor's most beautiful and impressive waterfalls. Visitors will need to walk and wade across the Chiling River five times to get there for about an hour, so be prepared to have a sense of adventure and not mind getting wet. It is well worth the effort when you ultimately reach the waterfall (actually three falls). The entrance is on the path to The Gap/Hill Fraser's from Kuala Kubu Baharu. You will cross a small steel bridge over the Chiling River shortly after passing the Selangor Dam and reservoir. Just after the bridge, there is a parking area and on the right side of the road is the entrance. Sungai Chilling is also known as Gorilla Falls. Lata Medang Lata Medang is a 10.0 km out and back trail that offers scenic views and is rated as difficult. The route is mostly used for hiking, cycling, camping, and backpacking activities. In a remote area of hilly rainforest off Kuala Kubu Bharu, Lata Medang is a waterfall at Kampung Pertak, cascading down from a massive 60-meter drop over two stages. Access is through the initial trail to Bukit Kutu. 21
Serendah Waterfall Serendah Waterfall, also known as Templer Kai or Recreational Waterfall Serendah, is located 3 km from an indigenous village known as Perkampungan Orang Asli Serendah. Here, while the waterfall seems small and shallow, it delivers refreshingly cool, gushing water that splashes on anyone who sits by it. The famed Seven Well or \"Perigi Tujuh\" is situated just at the junction approaching the waterfall, which definitely draws tourists even more as it carries its own unique story. Perigi Tujuh Serendah Perigi Tujuh (Seven Wells), is a little-known part of Malaysia's heritage. It is a small dam with seven wells, which are supplied by water through seven sinkholes or spillways. These spillways serve as plug holes to control the floods from Serendah town. This allows the water deposited in the upstream lake to drain gently (or not so gently during a downpour). 22
Hot Spring KKB Hot Spring This hot spring near Taman Arif was discovered just over a decade ago. Locals did not spread the word too broadly so that they could experience the location for themselves. As a result, the district council has constructed two gazebos to provide shade. 23
Pusat Terapi Semulajadi Hulu Tamu This natural hot spring located seven kilometres from Batang Kali. With the installation of concrete shelters and gazebos and by enclosing the spring pool with concrete walls, the facilities here have recently been renovated by the district council. The pool is divided into two parts, one ideal for swimming and paddling with natural hot spring water and the other with cooler water. The landscape is bright and clean and the gardens have been landscaped. Kerling Hot Spring The Kerling Hot Spring is situated about 10 km from Kuala Kubu Bharu close to the town of Kerling. The hot spring area has been steadily revamped and is now used as a shallow square swimming pool. A bridge was built to carry tourists over the river to the rest area and the hot spring pool. This place is well patronized on the weekends. Facilities offered, such as free parking lots, gazebo and barbecue area. There is also a river that is ideal for children and families. 24
Kuala Kubu Bharu - Bukit Fraser The starting point is at the Kuala Kubu dam and the ascend is a gradual 40km climb that winds through the rainforest of Malaysia. There is no traffic on the roads and a one-way lane is a direction leading to Fraser Hill. Before you embark on another insane gruelling climb where the last 8km gradient is at least 12 per cent, the long arduous climb ends at The Gap. 25

Fraser’s Hill is a famous hilltop along the Titiwangsa Range. Though situated in Pahang it is also bordered by Selangor. This cool holiday retreat is famed for its nature activities and cooling climate, being one of Malaysia's last hill resorts, an icon of former British colonial masters. Staying at Fraser’s Hill Bungalow Sultan Sulaiman Bungalow Sultan Sulaiman was designed and built in 1938. It was taken over by the government of the state of Selangor after the British left the country in 1957. The cottage was designed in a blend of different English architectural styles, including Tudor (1485-1603) and Georgian (1720-1820). It is considered very well maintained as there can be no significant harm to the foundation and walls. Rumah Sri Berkat The Rumah Sri Berkat is one of the many buildings in Fraser’s Hill to be built in an English style. It is said that the guesthouse was built around 1926 by the British Red Cross as a token of gratitude to the ex- soldiers (1914-1918). 28
