127 What To Buy Nyonya Beaded Shoes The beaded slippers were popular in the 1930s and were worn by both Peranakan males (baba) and girls (nyonya). Beaded slippers are increasingly often worn by women these days. The beaded slippers were designed to be worn for two different occasions. These beaded shoes were used for joyous events like the Chinese New Year or birthdays, and they employed multicoloured beads with complex designs. Dodol Dodol, which originated in Melaka, is a brown sticky candy that tastes like toffee and is made from coconut milk and rice flour. If you're looking for something more exotic, try the tropical durian or pandan flavour. This is a must-buy snack for those with a sweet tooth, and is often molded into cute pyramids.
