Spotlight All Or Nothing This ultra-modern and trendy work of art comes from Elliphant featuring Bunji Garlin & Diplo. It features a lot of different segments, so let’s break it down. We’re first hit with tribal drums. This then twists and drops down into a bold, fresh production which could easily pair with the fast-paced futuristic influences of Asia. The snappy rap verses are equally ruthless, with a direct and no-nonsense attitude. The chorus, once again, shifts the tone entirely with a calm and diluted atmosphere together with soft, hazy vocals. The break brings a dirty, gritty bass alongside Bunji Garlin’s fiery bars. We came here for all or nothing at all. That is the way of the viking. Featured on ‘Huawei P30 Pro’ advert. Dejango Sexy summer vibes ooze from this collab between Afro Beats & Ashanti. Flavourful Caribbean beats come together with a raspy and seductive male against the sugary sweet and sultry female. A song of love and passion. It’s difficult to say any more, as this is all just from a very teasing 30 second advert from the PrettyLittleThing x Ashanti fashion campaign. The singer’s collection with the brand is equally attractive with daring cuts, interesting animal-skin designs and a lot of attitude. Zero song release information, other than the title, has been revealed, so watch this space! 10 www.AudationMagazine.com

THE LAST EVER COCOON IN THE PARK SUPERCALI-FRAGILISTIC-EXPI-ALI-DOCIOUS, that'd be my word of choice if I had to choose one word to describe the last ever Cocoon In The Park, as it was exactly that. It was as if Mary Poppins herself had made an appearance, taken the artists’ USBs & record boxes and replaced them with her own. The music was that damn good! It truly was a magical affair and an experience that will live long in the memories. Renowned for its setting within the grounds of Temple Newsam Park, with its one stage at the bottom of the hill, CITP captivated its audience from start to end. Temperatures reached an astonishing 28 degrees drawing out 10,000 revellers. Rain was predicted at some point, but the Techno Gods were out in strong force and little old Leeds was blessed with rays of sunshine beating down, only adding to the great vibes in play. The music programming, as per usual, was incredible. So when the heavens did decide to open and shower down in the middle of Sven Vath's set, very few batted an eyelid. Sights of Seth Troxler b2b with Craig Richards was immense hearing riddim after riddim being dropped. It's a shame that this was the last ever CITP, but it will for sure live in the memory. \"GB 365 was released in May 2015 in support of the UK charity Sports Traider. The song wa s inspired during my time working with the GB women's wheelchair basketball players and “GB 365” was the team’s motto as they prepared for the World Champs and Paralympic Games in Rio. Profits from downloads of the single are still going to the life changing youth-focused charity, who offer youngsters the kit and opportunities they need in order to discover and fulfil their sporting potential, whatever their background, ability or disability. In 2016 I made an appearance on Channel 4's 'The Superhumans Show' with an acoustic performance of 'GB 365' and I’m so excited to be releasing a dance remix of the original by DJ Rokuro, which is still in support of Sports Traider!\" Alexander Joseph \"Alex Roberts approached me and said he had found a great singer/ songwriter, and suggested I could revamp the song ‘GB 365’ into something slightly more dancy. My version is a little faster bpm wise but still keeps the sprint of the original. Also, because of the story behind the song, and that it had featured in the Women’s GB basketball wheelchair paralympics in Rio, and featured on Channel 4, plus all profits were going to help youngsters get into sport and help them buy their kits etc… It was a no brainer to get involved and do a remix for a great cause, The Rokuro remix version will be available soon via iTunes, Spotify and all download platforms this summer.\" DJ Rokuro www.sportstraider.org.uk www.ajosephmusic.com www.instagram.com/rokurolive 28 www.AudationMagazine.com

Home Solomon Grey’s single is given a remix from UK producer Hectic. The piano chords lead us in with a feeling of melancholy. A sturdy beat cuts through like a treacherous dagger. An eerie voice asks ‘How could I ever live without you?’ The intensity rises as a powerful string section creates a moving atmosphere. The percussion becomes more textured, dappled with feverish notes as if trying to speak out. A mysterious and perplexing mood is formed. The music video is equally dramatic and reveals a dark story. A love triangle. A cursed fate. A controlling lover attempting to force happiness. Tormented minds know not what they do, the fog clouding over any clear judgement. A deathly pill thickens the plot. “It was a great opportunity and pleasure to remix Solomon Grey and I hope I did the original justice. The talented students and staff at Bolton College have done an incredible job on the video and it’s a great visual representation for the track.” Hectic The visual piece features Bolton College performing arts students and was filmed in and around the college. It is filmed and edited by Bolton College theatre technician Edd Lewis, and directed by Bolton College performing arts tutor Kyle Cambray. www.solomongrey.net www.soundcloud.com/hecticmusic www.boltoncollege.ac.uk 30 www.AudationMagazine.com

Khalid - Talk #5 in USA A moment of romance, this is a gorgeous little song. The pop production is comprised of subtle retro synths, a steady beat to bop to and a sweetness in the atmosphere. The voice shines in the spotlight with delightful high notes and husky warmth. His charm is sure to win over many hearts. 32 www.AudationMagazine.com

‘Pain’ by Astronata is astounding. Restrained, pizzicato-style percussion with a dim atmospheric wave of sound. The voice portrays a scene of dismal contemplation. Relinquishing into the dark, unexplored depths of emotion. Sugary sweet vocal tones become a sinful pleasure to the ears. Just like the pain, a sickly addiction you hate to love. The tempo quickens, a gritty bass creeping up on you. The Shamanic Technology & Dusko remix twists the tempo of the vocals and adds a fierce Drum & Bass beat. Slime Recordings welcomes back Astronata to the label for their second single “Pain”. “Pain” explores and expands on the mesmerizing sonic chemistry Nata and Ilya created with their debut single,“BeLoved”. Through a narcotic haze of minimalist beats and ethereal melodies, Nata’s beguiling vocal delivery draws the listener deeper into her confidential world. The more you suffocate, the more you disappear. Feel me in your veins. There is no escape. Scene veterans Shamanic Technology and Dusko debut on the label with an incredible remix that is pure alchemy, extracting the tone and palette of the original and distilling it through a hybridized D&B cipher that continually evolves and innovates within itself. www.facebook.com/astronataofficial 34 www.AudationMagazine.com

The ’Searching’ EP by James Curd delivers pumping beats which dive straight to your hips allowing their wiggle while your feet can’t help moving The title track is a funky and vibrant floorfiller. Brass instruments rule this piece with gorgeous and fun flair along with a lively tempo to get you dancing. The sumptuous sax is paired with a lovely gospel choir at the chorus. This is book-ended by a curious intro & outro of a more futuristic nature. In the mundane humdrum of our lives, aren’t we searching for something new? Second track ‘Spend Time With You’ begins with a slightly deep and subdued tone which then rises up to another great, uplifting spirit. The nifty beat is joined by an array of jazz instruments easing in the funky mood. Wanna take you to the sky. Rumbling bass notes, a melodic keyboard, fiery trumpets and soulful voices full of zest all come together to create an interesting and loving glow. Chicago House don, James Curd has been hitting the circuit with nothing but quality under his belt. He lands back on Refuge with a two track EP full of life. Disco inspired, energetic and perfect for the summer, we expect these to float around for a while. www.jameswcurd.com 36 www.AudationMagazine.com

‘Mirror Talk’ by Griff is an interesting reflection of strength and emotions. The contemporary production is incredibly subdued and understated with only a beat struck here and there together with a subtle feathery air. The full focus and leading element is the voice. My mind is all over the place. Husky verses turn into sweet, exquisite highs. Pulling herself up through a difficult time, reaching inside her soul finding inner strength. Come on girl. “Mirror Talk” takes those inner conflicts of young adulthood (the insecurities, but also the fearlessness) and reflects them right back over sparse electronic beats, influences of soul and R&B, and Griff's phenomenal vocal. If the face-off of 'Mirror Talk' feels awkwardly familiar to most, the arrival of a new artist like Griff encapsulates all there is to still be excited about for her generation: at just 18 years old, here is a multi-faceted new talent – singer, songwriter, producer, instrumentalist – who crafts rawly empowered pop with a global reach, and a homespun touch. On her very first release, Griff is quickly learning how to take all that she is and turn it into a source of inspiration. Directed by Sylvie Weber (the xx, Gus Daperton), the “Mirror Talk” video further showcases Griff's shrewd visual eye, from the heart-sink feeling of your phone buzzing next to your bed to that instantly-iconic ponytail. And whilst juggling music and education may have almost crushed her - it's a secret Griff has kept from her classmates up until now - even an A-Level in Textiles has turned out to have had its creative uses: Griff started making clothes from a bunch of fabric scraps she “borrowed” from school, and made the top she wears on the “Mirror Talk” cover. www.facebook.com/WiffyGriffy 38 www.AudationMagazine.com

Get a taste of the sunshine as light tropical beats enter. A deep and moody attitude overrides this feeling, creating a sense of mystery and excitement. Preserve and cherish the pale blue dot. The futuristic, pulsating warps take you into another dimension. An extraterrestrial escape. “My main inspiration when it comes to producing a track, is simply the enormous taste that love gives me in the studio,” says Gastón Sosa. “I simply flowed and, when I least expected, it the track was ready. The vocals are from the maestro Carl Sagan, who is my inspiration, even when it comes to producing electronic music.” www.awjrecordings.com 39

The ‘No Limit’ EP by Hannah V is empowering, intense and fearless. Her clever production skills are humble and modest, quietly lighting the room. An array of featured artists impart wisdom and inspire positive self-belief. A unity of females standing together, linked arms and big smiles rejoicing in love. Coming in with the ‘Bangles Intro’ featuring Ama Schreyer, the smokey voice is paired with a ravishing string-led, Indian production setting a strong feminine tone. The title track featuring Shystie and Pepper Rose holds a strong sense of courage and determination delivered through honest snappy verses and a flavourful, sweet chorus. I always had the vision that I CAN. The production is subtle and subdued with a steady beat and gentle piano melody. Misunderstood feelings, enthusiasm lacking, the troubles pushing down... but you reach high and stand up strong against the blows. ‘Liberate Yourself’ featuring Misha B has an oddly dark atmosphere with clashing bright sparks of brass and jangling notes. The tempo is lively complimenting the raspy voice and ruthless attitude. ‘They Don’t Matter’ featuring Cherri V & Mike Ellison is a gorgeous song of love and emotions. I’m relying on your heartbeat. The vocals shine with divine high notes and great passion. Timeless, you can bind us in Orion’s Belt. The powerful and poetic interlude is endearing with his charm. The production is equally vivid and emotive with a fusion of contemporary and soulful influences. The full 6-track EP is a strong force of energy from the universe, taking your hand and lifting you up to reach your dreams. www.hannahv.co.uk 40 www.AudationMagazine.com

‘Locker’ by Artashes Uliyanov featuring The Jack Wood is a quirky meld of moods. The warped guitar twangs add a peculiar atmosphere, this darkness develops further with twisted and sinister creeping vocals. Oh my darling, your hands are on my throat. The steady beat is a strange sturdiness against the deadly feeling. Lost in the middle of nowhere. The Regalos De Cali remix adds a club vibe with a rhythmic beat, and plays with the vocal tones. The young russian convinced us with his new Track \"Locker“. Artashes Uliyanov is known for his deep drifting house grooves. This time he gave his song a slight oriental touch which gives a magical atmosphere and combines perfectly with the Vocal by \"The Jack Wood“. To round it all off, \"Regalos De Cali\" made a great remix which guarantees playability on every occasion. www.facebook.com/artashesuliyanov.music 42 www.AudationMagazine.com

‘Holiday Home’ by Megatrain is a perplexing show of emotion. The gentle lull of faded air and discords of the guitar paint an eerie picture. A stark, yet feathery soft, voice tells the story of this dysfunctional relationship. His dark and fractured reflections harmonise with her, self-pity flowing from his lips. I'll be waiting by the window for him. From moody twangs to cheerful flourishes, this strange amalgamation of feelings kiss you sweetly and rip out your hair at the same time. I’d cry an ode to joy for you. www.facebook.com/megatrainmusic 43

The ’27 Months’ LP by Phonetix is a beautiful collection of songs from this talented and passionate producer. From a difficult moment in his life, emotions are laid out bare for all to witness. ‘Overlooked’ featuring Harsh is an interesting blend of soulful jazz and a lively dnb beat, together with the soft yearning voice. ‘World Of hurt’ is simply a dark dnb piece reflecting pain hidden inside, anger needing a release. ‘Ode To Otis’ brings an oldschool garage vibe with nifty production work and a lighter atmosphere. The full 12 track compilation is a journey through deep reflections with bass & garage at your side. “In 2016 my daughter was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, for which she underwent 27 months of chemotherapy. I channelled the mixed bag of emotions felt during this difficult period into making an album, in order to raise funds to take her on an epic life-changing trip. Alyssa is now doing well, & said-album is scheduled for release via Riddler Records at the end of August. It’s a somewhat eclectic offering covering UK Garage, Garage House, Drum & Bass, Bass Music & Jazz – with original vocals & instrumental features from talented collaborators like Harsh (of Soul’d Out), MC Cobra (heard on tour with Kissy Sellout), Rawkus (Steam Recordings) & Brendan Mills (known for his work playing alongside Olly Murs).” Phonetix www.phonetix.co.uk 48 www.AudationMagazine.com
