Last Word RICHARD SCHMIDT CREATIVITY UNLEASHED In the 1990s David Hockney—pictured in his Los Angeles studio at the time—captured his two dachshunds, Stanley and Boodgie, in dozens of paintings. “These two dear little creatures are my friends,” he once stated, also admit- ting they made for somewhat fidgety models. As one of the most prolific artists of his generation, Hockney can certainly appreciate a reluctance to sit still. His vast body of work is surveyed in the giant new limited-edition tome David Hockney: A Bigger Book (Taschen, $2,500). Its release anticipates his 2017 retrospective at Tate Britain, debuting February 9 and later traveling to the Centre Pompidou and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
