DUNES INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Volume 6, Issue 4 ACADEMIC SESSION 2019-2020 24—28– November2019 SNEAK PEEK Glimpse of this week Career Education Career education is an integral part of providing information, advice, and guidance in a progressive manner to our secondary students. This engages the students with a comprehensive understanding of career opportunities in different fields and in different parts of the world. They can then translate these into effective and appropriate career decisions. Talk on career opportunities in Germany was organized in Dunes International School highlighting the benefits of studying in Germany at graduation level, medium of instruction, available unique applied courses with regular upgrades and various financial aspects. Reminder:  Revise for the upcoming PT2 exams.  Inter school carol singing competition will be held on Thursdsay,5th of December at School Campus.  School remains closed from 01.12.2019 till 03.12.2019 on account of UAE national day.  Winter break starts from 15.12.2019. School reopens on 05.01.2020  In the Changing weather take good care, keep warm, drink lukewarm water. 1

Glimpse of this week Special Assembly Co-operation build positive relationships among students. It also develop both good learning skills and social skills, it develops better attitudes toward school and teachers. Working together becomes fun for children as they develop an understanding of the skills and techniques necessary to lend a hand to another. Our kindergarteners learnt how to co-operate with each other and the benefits of team work. Based on the value of month, co-operation a Special assembly was conducted by KG2 I . 2

Fire drills are an important safety practice, and legal requirement, within any commercial property, and educational facilities. However, when these environments contain young children, greater attention and care will need to be given to the process and its efficiency. To make the students aware of the procedures to be followed in case of a fire, a fire evacuation drill was practiced in the school. 3

Bullying exists in many forms, including physical aggression, name-calling and spreading rumours. Preventing and stopping bullying involves a commitment to creating a safe environment where children can thrive, socially and academically, without being afraid. There are prevention programs and school-based interven- tions to address bullying behaviours. School has organized a week long activities such as Awareness sessions, helping hands activity, poster making, slogan writing, ant bullying parade, Songs on anti-bullying, street play on ‘No Bullying’ to observe “Anti Bullying Week” in the school. A display of signed hand prints was created as a visu- al reminder of students' pledge to take a stand against bullying. 4

Glimpse of this week- Martyr’s Day Martyr's Day or Commemoration Day is a time to honour and remember those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for the UAE. Commemoration Day recognizes the sacrifices and dedication of Emirati martyrs, who have given their lives in the UAE and abroad in the field of civil, military and humanitarian service. Every year, it is being observed on November 29 across the UAE. Dunites expressed their great respect to the UAE soldiers by hosting the UAE flag with the national anthem. 5

Glimpse of this week- 48th UAE National Day The National Day of UAE is celebrated on December 2nd every year that marks the day when emirates united together at Union House to form the United Arab Emirates. Our kindergarteners celebrated 48th UAE national day to emphasis the union of 7 Emirates. They shared the significance, growth and facts of UAE through their performance. 6

Star of the week Each week, a child is chosen in the class to receive the 'Star of the Week' award. This award is been given to motivate the students being a good role model, considerate to others, polite, hardworking and helpful to their peers. It is also been awarded for overcoming difficulties, or simply showing improvement in learning or behavior. Whatever the reason, children are always very proud to receive their star. Class Mascot Class mascot is awarded for the student to motivate and appreciate their specialty/good habits identified in them. Taking the class mascot home is the big deal for the student. It is an exciting moment for a child to take the mascot to home as it will create a bonding in between the class and home. English Our Kindergarteners learned quickly how to blend sounds together and how to connect words with the same sounds. They reinforced the con- sonant blends, digraphs, long vowels i,o,u and the uses of “this & that”. They were also introduced the composition writing about “my pet”. 13

Mathematics As our students are familiar with the numbers, they started reinforcing ten & ones, number names, before, after and in-between numbers, Skip counting by 2’s and single digit addition. They also know how to measure the objects using non-standard units. 15

Mathematics Revision Activity Single digit addition using lock and key activity. Count and fix the rubber bands on the popsicles according to the sum given. Students practiced single digit addition using the pastas, beans and more counters. 16

Science Students like to explore about the plant life and they are interested in observing the growth of plants. They reinforced about flowers, sequencing, opposites, odd one out through different activities. They learned to apply these con- cepts in their daily life. 17

Arabic Learning Arabic at a young age is very im- portant. Our tiny tots enjoy learning Arabic, as they explore a new formation of alphabets which is extremely different other alphabets. They revise the alphabets through different 19

Library Library is the most important place in a school where students can gain knowledge and skills for learning. Our junior library of Dunes provides an opportunity for the stu- dents to read different types of books and plays an important role in developing their reading skills. 20

Physical Education Students love to play, our school plays an important role in creating an opportunity for them to be active every day through physical education. Our kindergarteners gets good physical fitness by participating in physical education and also they learn the importance of exercise as a life long habit. 21

Swimming Swimming is the only activity that is important for all the age group of people. We learn swimming to completely save our own. Our students in Dunes have an opportunity to ensure that the future generation is taught basic water safe- ty skills. They learn leg tapping, with kick board and breathing & floating skills. 22

Creativity corner For children being creative provides opportunities for trying out new ide- as, and new ways of thinking and problem-solving. Creative activities help acknowledge and celebrate chil- dren's uniqueness and diversity. It encourages them to express them- selves openly and without judgment. Healthy Recipe Ingredients: Bread slices-4 Chopped onions - 1 Chopped capsicum - 1 Chopped green chilly-1 Salt to taste Butter 2tbspn Oil-1tbsp Mayonnaise -1tbsp Ketchup-1tbsp Turmeric- pinch Preparation: Saute the onions and capsicum for a minute in oil. Add salt green chilli and tomatoes. Beat two eggs well. Add this mixture to it. In a pan pour this. Then take a slice of bread spread mayonnaise and ketchup. Place this omelet on it. Melt butter and heat both sides of bread in pan. Cut into triangle shape. 24

Year of Tolerance There are seven main pillars of this year’s theme of tolerance. The UAE government aims to deepen the values of tolerance among its people through a spe- cific focus on fostering: Tolerance in the community, by encouraging greater acceptance among family members and creating a safe environment for different cultures to dwell together in harmony. Tolerance in education through cultivating the im- portant values of tolerance into young minds by incorporating them in the curriculum. Tolerance at workplaces via educational programmes that instil the values of cohesive, safe and tolerant workplaces across the country. Tolerance in culture by celebrating this 200- nationalities strong multicultural land with pro- grammes, events and promoted art to build strong- er communities. Tolerance in legislation through policy development aimed at enhancing the sustainability of mutual dialogue, tolerance and multiculturalism. Tolerance in media by introducing targeted media projects and campaigns for reinforced values of coexistence.  PT 2 starts from 8-12-19 to 12-12-19.  Christmas Celebration on 12th December 2019. Students can come in casuals preferably red and white.  Winter Break Starts on 12th December 2019 and School reo- pens on 5th January 2020. 25
