Glimpse of this week Roots & Shoots encourages children to implement prac- tical positive change for people, animals and the environment by providing them with free resources and a place to share their success stories with the world. Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots recent- ly announced their new twinning pro- gram between schools in the UAE and schools in the United Kingdom. Through the program students will have the opportunity to learn about another group’s homeland, environ- ment, wildlife, culture, religion and languages. As part of twinning program, Ms. Tara Golshan, Executive Educational Direc- tor of Roots and Shoots, UK visited Dunes International School on Tues- day 1st October 2019. BE A HERO FOR A BETTER WORLD If students, in their early age, learn to make their own solar devices and use them, not only they will likely to be future users of the solar energy but they will also be promoting its usage in their own generations and become Student Solar Ambassadors. Keeping this in mind Student Solar Ambassadors Workshop was organized on the 150th birth anniver- sary of Mahatma Gandhi, 2nd October 2019. In this unique one-day training program 4,00000 students from different schools across the world united together learnt to assemble their own solar study lamps to fulfill their study light needs. Dunes International School also joined this historical event. All the Solar Student Ambas- sadors assembled the Solar Study Lamps guided by the teachers those who have taken special training in this program. Through this workshop, scientific curiosity of young minds was piqued towards clean technologies for the future. At the end of the event, students were allowed to take home their solar study lamp and 2.5 W solar panel. 5

Star of the week Young children love to be in the spotlight, and having a “Star of week” is a great way to honor each individual student. The star of the week concept is meant for students to share a little bit about themselves with their class- mates. By taking center stage, students feel a sense of pride while they get to share fascinating facts and sto- ries about themselves and their life with their peers. Class Mascot Taking the class mascot home is a big deal for the students. They are so excited to bring a piece of the class home to their families and share about their day. It's also meaningful for my students to share a bit of home with something from the class. Blending home and school into the same world for students is so powerful. World Heart Day is 'My Heart, Your Heart' A promise to yourself, the people you care about and the individuals around the world to take steps in reducing our risk to CVD. The day is commemorated to promote different preventative steps and changes in lifestyle to avoid any cardiovascular diseases, like heart attack, stroke, heart failure and any other condition related to the same. KG2 E performed a special assembly and shared few facts on how to keep the heart healthy. They insisted on healthy life style with exercises by a Zumba dance. 12
Ghandhi Jayanthi— “Salutation to the father of India” 2nd Oct 2019 On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Kindergarteners were entertained with a puppet show on ‘Cleanliness’. A short PPT on Babuji ‘ s life was shared. Kindergartener raised an oath to keep their home, classroom and surroundings clean. Community Singing Singing together with peers is the most entertainment time for the toddlers. Singing in groups make them feel valued and increasing their confidence. 13
