DONORS CALL TO ACTION The St. Petersburg community displayed tremendous support during the 2014 MLK Day of Service Award event. With only $200,000 awards budget, the MLK staff and Advisory Committee were able to achieve the following goals on MLK Day of Service Monday, Janu- ary 20, 2014.  65 organization were awarded funding  2003 individuals volunteered for a total of 15,652 volunteer hours  Received $64,137 in both cash and In-kind donations  15,830 local community persons were impacted during the Day of Service The MLK Advisory Committee and staff are projecting a even greater community participation for the 2015 MLK Day of Service Award event. Therefore we are asking local businesses to become donors and help sponsor your chosen service project or donate directly to the MLK Day of Service Award , (to donate to MLK Day of Service Award please visit www.spcollege.edu/MLKService and click “Become a Sponsor”). EDUCATION SPAC Delta Sigma Theta Sorority \"Delta Academy\" Access to books and having books in the homes is a challenge to some disadvantage chil- dren in our community. Having ideniied a targeted group of children ages 5 - 13 years through this ser- vice project we were able to give book bags with 12 age appropriate books to the children who parici- paing in the Harbordale Y-Achievers program. Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum “DR. MLK King Book Club and Brunch” The Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum, which has been in existence for more than seven years, is proposing to host a Book Club for 25 girls from Campbell Park and Melrose Elementary Schools (failing schools) along with the YWCA. The paricipants will derive from economically challenged homes and neighborhoods. The goal of the pro- gram would be to foster a love for learning, reading and achieving goals that may have never been entertained. 7

NEIGHBORHOOD PROJECT ETA RHO EDUCATIONAL SERVICES INC. Our project served the Wildwood Neighborhood in St Petersburg Fl. It impacted the overall health of the families by providing Personal Hygiene items to the families. The project was inspired by the words of MLK: ...\"all life is interrelated, and all men are interdependent. The agony of the poor diminishes the rich and the sal- vaion of the poor enlarges the rich. We are inevitably our brothers keeper.\" Life Organizaion We had a community fair with organizaions that had resources to educate on health top- ics ,Free HIV tesing , Free condoms ,food, Tax consultaion, Housing providers for home- less , Fresenius medical group, people checking blood pressure, etc.. ...and games for the children. I t was a great combined efort from organizaions in the community. 8

HEALTH Sistahs Surviving Breast Cancer, a program of Mt. Zion Human Services, Inc. Provided important health educaion to our community in the areas of lung (#1 lead- ing cause of cancer deaths), breast cancers (2nd leading cause of cancer death among women) as well as dental hygiene. The dual purpose of the project is to a) bring much- needed supplies to the many homeless and low-income residents in our neighborhood and to b) coninue health educaion in the Midtown and surrounding communiies. The project will invest the ime, talent and treas- ure of approximately thirty volunteers into two aciviies. Health Educaion: There is a need for wellness educaion in the areas of breast and lung cancer awareness as well as dental hygiene in the Pinellas County area. Sickle Cell Disease Associaion of America The MLK/Sickle Cell blood drive impact per- sons with sickle cell disease and people in need of blood products by receiving donat- ed blood that will be divided into three life saving purposes: Red blood cells which will be used for surgery, kidney dialysis, and to treat anemia, Plasma which will be used to treat burn vicims and paients who are in shock, and Platelets which will be used dur- ing surgery, to treat leukemia and other forms of cancer. 9

Other Projects The Gathering of WOMEN, Inc. The youth paricipaing in the 2013-2014 St. Petersburg Man Camp reaped profound beneits. There were several components in the camp that refocused youth from thinking only about themselves toward the importance of collecive community empowerment, educaion, crime prevenion, dressing for success, and career planning. The aciviies component promoted pro-social interac- ions while simultaneously exposing the youth to diferent ways of thinking in order to ex- pand their problem-solving and decision making skills. The aciviies component included popular guest speaker, author, and community leader Randy Lewis MBA. Randy spoke from his own topic X-box, Hip Hop, and Dreadlocks: Reconnecing generaions that took a look at three factors that inluence youth, music, media and peers. PUBLIC SAFETY Pinellas County Urban League The MLK Day of Service Youth Empowerment Workshop was called \"A tremendous suc- cess!\" The Urban League partnered with PTEC, and The Gathering of Women Group, The Brotherhood of Men, Muhammad Mosque 95 and Childs Park Neighborhood Associaion to sponsor an event that provided workshop sessions that included crime prevenion, Fatherhood/Dress for Success, Sexuality Educaion (Making Proud Choices), 5 Steps to Career Planning, Believe & Do Good, Keeping My Image, and How to Respect & Protect Your Women & Girls. . 10

ECONOMIC OPPORTUNITY Pinellas Ex Ofender Re Entry Coaliion The speciic workshops conducted on the day of service covered two speciic catego- ries: Educaion and Economic Opportunity. The academy classes overall follow an established ed- ucaional curriculum; the focus on employment empowerment and dream, believe and imaging your future (vision) are squarely rooted in the spirit of economic uplit and opportunity. The Deuces Live The Retail Cart Vendor Program will fulill two goals: increasing the amount of retail oferings on 22nd Street South and providing under employed and unemployed individ- uals an entrepreneurial opportunity. 11

CLEAN ENERGY / ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP African American Heritage Associaion The Jordan Park Head Start Victory Garden ad- dressed three areas: educaion, health, and en- vironmental stewardship. Immediate instances of posiive impact were the opportunity for in- ter-generaional interacion between children, teens and adults on a common project and the enthusiasic interest of the litle \"dirt angels\" seen in the photos of the litle ones helping to mix the soil, and plant the seedlings. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. - Zeta Upsilon Omega Chapter The Zeta Upsilon Omega (ZUO) chapter held its MLK Day of Service Project on Monday, January 20, 2014 at the Starling School and Daycare in St. Peters- burg, FL from 9am-12pm. ZUO partnered with the Eta Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The purpose of this project was to insill a sense of pride in the students knowing they are in a safe, healthy environment away from home by the beauiicaion of the school grounds. We planted xeriscape type plants throughout the property and mulched two playgrounds. 12

SUPPORTING VETERAN & MILITARY FAMILIES BETHEL A.M.E. HUMAN SERVICES AND EDUCATION FOUN- DATION, INC. The theme of the 2014 project is Operaion Safety, Survival and Wellness- A Year of Service, A Lifeline for Care. It is irmly believed that this project has posiively impacted the most vulnerable of our ciizens in the community by providing tangible items for survival (clothing, food and protecion from the elements). In addiion, the educaion of the needy on available health maintenance resources, transiional shelter and veterans ser- vices provides a coninuing safety net through a coaliion of organizaions and governmental agencies. 13
