She was just 21 years old and described by others as spunky, friendly,generous and hard working. Her ability to have fun drew people to her. She could also be anxious, stressed andoverwhelmed. Even though Marie (photo'd right) was fiercely loved by her family and friends, she felt unable to copewith life’s troubles and made a tragic choice. Her family still struggles with the loss, andwhile they all deal with it differently, they all have found a unique way to remember her.In 2016, Marie’s mother Terri Jozefiak decided to organize a bicycle ride fundraiser. Thispurchasing and supply chain professional didn’t know much about organizing an event, letalone fundraising, but she knew she wanted to do something. The second annual Ride washeld on August 19, 2017 on the Macomb Orchard Trail in Shelby Township. Without their drive with free training andand dedication, we wouldn't be able to have such a strong impact on the certifications!community. Our volunteers go through more than 90 hours of training whichprepares them to deal with stressful situations over the phone. Volunteersalso gain several certifications with completion of their training.These certifications are worth thousands of dollars, but are free of costs for our volunteers. They help preparevolunteers with highly sought-after experience, which includes suicide intervention workshops and practicedinterpersonal skills that pertain to mental illness, victims of domestic violence, and victims of sexual assault.
