Everything in life is tied to time but still we need to be patient and wait for the right time. The scripture says; to everything under the sun there is a time. So many peoplewho have genuinely made it in life have had to wait for God'stiming. Those who want to attain higher ground need be patient. The idea that God will break protocol in this matter should behandled with care lest you appear before your time and alsodisappear before your time.. They must realize that God's time isthe best. Any opportunity that comes their way, they must be sureGod wants them to utilize it.While Joseph was in the house of Potiphar he had so manyopportunities. Some were olive branch from the devil. He wasvery careful with them. Even though he later went to prison, thatimprisonment was going to usher him unto higher ground. Theprodigal son was a child on the path of higher ground. Because hewas faster than his legs instead of being an there apparently, hebecame a slave. This child does not believe in the saying that\"there is dignity in labour\".The only categories of people he saw were those wasting theirlives away in drinking, smoking, womanizing, robbery andcultism. Thus he requested his father to give him his own share ofthe estate. He left for a distant country-the realm of destruction, there he squandered his fortune. Some of you who may be readingthis devotion are destined for greatness, but you have allowed evilcommunication to corrupt you. The direction you are facingcannot take you to higher ground, please turn to Jesus now.PRAYER:My dear Father, we pray for children that are wayward and arebecoming hardened daily. Break their stony heart today. 43

The amplified Bible translates our text thus \"And if you have not proved faithful in that which belongs to another (whether God or man), who will give you thatwhich is your own (that is, the true riches)?\" Too many peoplewant to succeed in life but very few are willing to be faithful. There is this syndrome that seemed to have possessed somepeople, 'this is my opportunity'. With this in mind many will goat whatever length to get what they desire. The 21st century Church is looking for good managers tomanage the Church and the nation at large who are devoid ofselfish interest. God's plan for his church and the nation is theirconcern. Good managers would always prove faithful in allthey do because they are aware that the fear of the Lord isbeginning of wisdom. How far are you going about thatassignment committed to your charge? The word of God says ifyou are unable to manage other people's estate who will giveyou your own? The implication is that the grace to get our ownis found in our faithfulness in managing others. The story before us is about those who are aspiring to be onhigher ground, but they are willing to pull down those who arethere. If you cannot take care of what belong to others, if youhave your own, you will not be able to take care of it. If youmust be on higher ground you must learn to be trustworthy andbe able to manage whatever is committed to your charge.PRAYERConfess every act of unfaithfulness you may have exhibitedand pray that the Lord would forgive you. 44

Christianity is not a badge or an emblem that we wear. It is the total life that has experienced transformation. On daily basis, such life is growing in grace, in holinessand righteousness. As Christians we are expected to gain newheights every day as we match unto higher ground. We mustaspire to attain God's expectation for His children a place thatis higher than where we are now, spiritually, physically andotherwise. Everything about our God is dynamic, there is nostagnation. There is the saying in Isoko language translated thus, \"I usedto farm does not make you a farmer\". Some of us are very goodin telling the story of what we were in the Church. Thequestion is what are you now in the vineyard? Who are younow? Could it be you have attained your higher ground andnow you are declining? The theory which says when you get to the optimum you beginto come down is economic theory. As a child of God at everylevel, you are still productive if the grace of God is still uponyour life. Apostle Paul prayed with the Colosians that, in everyway, they may please God, bearing fruit in every good work, growing in knowledge of God.PRAYERLord Jesus, as I yearn to attain higher ground, may I please youin every way, bearing fruit and growing in knowledge of God. 45

As a child of God, every positive step you take can be referred to as a path to higher ground in life and faith. It is the privilege of entering the presence of God,being where He is and being where he wants you to be. It is aprivilege of sharing in His divine nature and escape thecorruption in the world caused by evil desire. Entering higherground is not limited to material prosperity alone. It has muchto do with the quality of your Christian life on daily basis. Thisis why Peter encouraged the believers to possess the Christianvirtues. These virtues are the very essence of God and aschildren of God we must be like him who has begotten us.The first virtue to be added to faith is goodness which meansmoral excellence. The next one is knowledge, self-control(ability to put oneself under moderation) perseverance (notgiving up easily inspite of the valley experience you may passthrough). Godliness simply defined is to becoming godly, more like Jesus in every way. Kindness and love is anexpression of what Christ has done for you and others. Christis a perfect example when he willingly surrendered his life forthe salvation of the whole world. As the qualities are evidentin our lives, we are becoming more like Christ and our worldwould be a blessing to all around us. Make every effort to addthese virtues to your faith.PRAYERLord Jesus Christ, make us a true replica of yourself on dailybasis as we add this virtues to our lives daily. 46

The inability to advance is to be in danger of going back. The path of life is so busy with heavy traffic and each person making efforts to maximize the availableopportunity. Therefore, nobody can be allowed to cause anobstruction. The believers in our passage were not new converts. They have learnt the first steps toward becoming Christians. However, they failed to make further progress to attain maturity. It was difficult to feed them with solid food meant for maturedpeople. The church of today is faced with similar challenge of manydespite the number of years accompanied with variousopportunity of attaining maturity yet they cannot take solid food.Anytime they have the opportunity of receiving solid food theyare the first to react. They would argue that it is not the practice ofthe church. Even when it is supported from the Scriptures theyare not ready to open their hearts to learning. They are satisfiedwith what they think they know which is likely to be untrue. They are concerned about what they will make in this world.Beloved, how far, are you really making progress or mere churchgoer? Here comes the Lenten season for us to experience revivalagain. Make sure you avail yourself of the opportunity.Whatever is supported by Scriptures is meant to enhance ourgrowth spiritually and pave way to a higher ground. Let us openour hearts and allow the Holy Spirit to have his way.PRAYERLord Jesus, if I have closed my heart to learning, please forgiveme, let me open my heart to receive your teaching. 47

Those who are willing to attain higher ground must make up their minds to do so. They must be challenged by others who are making reasonable progress in their Christianwalk with God. Basically baptism is done in every church whichis the initiatory rite of the Christian faith. Without it you cannot bea member of the body of Christ. Some have been baptized and they stopped there. There are otherthings they still need to do in their denomination but they do notcare about it. Their excuse is that there is no time. They do nothave time for the things of God, but they have time to do otherthings. In our text we are admonished to leave the elementaryteachings about Christ and go on to maturity. We have much tolearn to help us know more about Christ. We have come to discover that many of our members do notrespond to things that will encourage their spiritual growth. Theyare satisfied with what they hear on Sundays during the homily. The spiritual hunger and thirst that make one to crave for the Wordof God is not there. When last did you attend bible study in yourChurch? Have you attended any prayer meeting organized by thechurch in recent times? These are the programmes that willenhance your spiritual growth and your movement to higherground becomes easy. These programmes will help you to copewith your experiences in the valley.PRAYERCreate in us O Lord the desire to know more of you, to learn moreof you, to study more like you as to become like you. 48

Today is the beginning of Lent commonly called Ash- Wednesday. It is meant to prepare us for a meaningful celebration of Easter. During this period wecommemorate the \"Lord's special preparation in the wildernessfor the opening of His ministry\". That was the time He fastedforty days and forty nights. This period, Christians areexpected to fast and pray. In the early church, the observance ofthe fast was rigid. Only one meal a day was allowed, things likeflesh, meat and fish were forbidden.Nowadays, many Christians have come to realize theimportance of this period. The fasting has gone beyond thetraditional way of restricting it to only Ash Wednesday andGood Friday. A good number of people now fast as long as theyare able and testimonies have always accompanied it. In thisperiod, God is calling us through Prophet Joel to return to Him.God is calling on His people to return to Him with all theirhearts, with fasting, weeping and mourning. There is the need for a sincere repentance with a vow never togo back to the world. This period calls for a self examinationwith a view to becoming like Jesus. Let this period be wiselyspent to the glory of God as you begin to part with the old waysand embrace the new.PRAYERMy dear Father and God, forgive the sins of those who arepenitent, create new and contrite heart in us, Lord. 49

The hymn writer says, \"When duty calls or danger, be never wanting there\". A soldier of Christ is meant to be at his duty post and be alert all the time. Apostle Peter says, \"Be selfcontrolled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like aroaring lion looking for someone to devour\". (1 Peter 5:8)According to the chronicler, during the spring, kings are expectedto go off to war. David as the king of Israel was expected to lead thearmy. However, David decided to send his chief commander - Joabto lead the Israelite army. We do not know why David decided notto go but certainly he was not sick. He must have concluded thatthe war is too minor for such a general like him therefore peoplelike Joab should take the lead. When God gives you an assignment and you ignore it the devil willsurely find one for you. David remained in Jerusalem while Godwas on the battle field. David decided to take a walk round the roof. From the roof the devil showed him a battle that can easily be wonas a king. David ended up committing adultery with Uriah's wife aman who believes that when duty calls he must never be wantingthere. Uriah had the interest of the nation at heart more thanhimself hence he refused to go home. This is the patriotic spirit wewant to promote this Lenten period.David wanted to be smart, but it was too late to cry when the headwas gone. All efforts to commit Uriah were fruitless. From one sin,David graduated to another. Sin has a multiplying effect. Beware!PRAYERWhen duty calls O Lord, may I not be found wanting help me to beat my duty post. We pray for all who may have abandoned theirhelp them to be faithful. 50

Every attempt by David to convince Uriah to go home proved abortive. David realized that, there was no way to get out of the mess. He realized that he hadshamelessly abused his royal office which the Lord entrustedhim to shepherd his people. Instead of David to confess hisSins, he allowed shame to lead him into committing more andgrievous sin.Within one swoop, David broke the sixth, seventh and thetenth commandments (adultery, murder and coveted hisneighbour's house). Yesterday, we said sin has a multiplyingeffects. The only remedy is to confess and forsake it, if not, itwill lead to another. David thought the best way would be toeliminate Uriah, but he forgot that there is one, from whom nosecret can be hidden. Thus Uriah was killed and David thoughthe had succeeded. There are many in the church today who arestill living with an un-confessed sin. Perhaps you think withtime sin can be forgotten, this is absolutely untrue. When sins are not confessed and sacrifices, worship, giving, fellowship and prayer are offered they are abomination beforeGod. How long will you pretend as if all is well, are youwaiting until God will find you out?PRAYERDeliver us O Lord from pretence that leads to multiplicationof sin in our life and help us to be faithful to you O Lord. 51

When Nathan finished his parable, David's heart was humbled and broken. I am sure tears rolled down his cheeks. That is the characteristic of a true childof God who fell into sin. King David broke down in tears andbegan to confess. When you carefully study Psalm 51, youwill discover how David saw himself. Many Christians fallinto sin and show no sign of remorse. They are quick toconfess without genuine repentance thus they go back to it,hence they live in sin. When some of them are suspended bythe church, they leave for other denominations. They thinkthe sin committed is limited to that church alone.Sin is a tragedy; every child of God must run away from it. Ifyou commit sin, not only have you defiled yourself, but youhave also defiled the body of Christ. This is why children ofGod are ashamed when they hear about any disgrace amember brings to the Church.Beloved, could it be that you have been covering any sin inyour life? Yet you are very active in the church? According toDavid, the sacrifice that is pleasing to God is that of a brokenspirit, a broken and contrite heart. As we go through thepsalm, you will discover the tragedy that befalls a sinnerPRAYERHoly Father if we say we have no sin we deceive ourselves. From this sinful heart of ours, to thy bosom we flee. 52

James has given us a simple definition of sin that when we deliberately avoid the good we ought to do and we embrace something else, it becomes sin. So even if we committed andwe fail to confess we are still sinning. It appears that some peopleregard certain things as sin while others are not. I often see peopletalking about what others have done wrong whereas what they dois even worse. They are quick to point accusing finger at people.\"Why do you look at the speck of dust in your brother's eye andpay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”In confession we say, \"We have sinned against you and againstour neighbours, in thought and word and deed\". From thisconfession, we discover that we sin in three ways namelythought, word and deed. I seem to see people defining sin interms of deed alone. This is short of it. When we deliberatelyavoid good thoughts and the words that proceed from our mouthis not full of grace, then we have sinned. From the definition, you discover that, it is quite easy to fall intosin. Some of the little things we regard to be insignificant aredeadly sins. They have turned into a monster in people's lives, thereby rendering them spiritually dead. Until we begin toexamine ourselves genuinely, we may not discover it. A monsteris always a barrier to the flow of the Holy Spirit. A monster is aspiritual oppression that is vehemently oppose to spiritualgrowth.PRAYERLord Jesus, our lives are characterized with monsters of sin in thislent we plead for divine encounter as you uproot them from our 53

David in his prayer of confession asked God not to cast him from his presence. The first tragedy that befalls a sinner is his inability to appear before God or enjoyHis presence. The moment one sins against God, the fellowshiphas been tampered with and His love is wounded. Every childof God is meant to enjoy a constant fellowship with his God.But when we sin against Him, the margin is widened. Before Adam and Eve disobeyed God, they enjoyed a constantfellowship with him. But when they decided to avoid what theyought to do and did otherwise, at the hearing of the voice of theAlmighty, they hid themselves. The confidence was no longerthere. Sin succeeded in reducing them to nakedness and robbedthem of their confidence in God. What a tragedy. It is quite dangerous to be cast away from His presence as aresult of sin. When you think about the disaster that follows sinone should have a rethink and consider why one should allowthe enemy to mess you up. To lose God's presence gives thedevil an ample opportunity to have access to one's life. Davidknew the great danger. He therefore pleaded with God toforgive him and retain him in His presence. You can neverrealize this until your heart is broken.PRAYERCast us not away from your presence wretched as we are, wholly we depend on Jesus Christ the Lamb of God. 54

At our conversion, we received the Holy Spirit to dwell in us. As a result, we became children of God, the temple of the Almighty God. For us to receive the HolySpirit, it means we have received the life of God and so we canlive the life of God. This was the privilege that David had, hehad a special privilege but he lost it when he committed bothadultery and murder with tears he cried unto God, do not takeyour Holy Spirit from me.When the Holy Spirit is out of a man's life, what is left can bestbe described as an empty carton. Such person becomes a tool inthe hand of the devil. For he is no longer useful to God. Thatwas the case of King Saul. God said, \"Those who honor me Iwill honor but those who despise me will be disdained\". (1Sam 2:38). The Spirit of the Lord could no longer dwell in Saul.Leaders in the Church need to examine themselves lest theybecome Saul.David knew that the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in the life of asinner, therefore he pleaded with God not to take him away. When you sin, the Holy Spirit gives you chance until you havebeen reconciled with God through your genuine confession.Until you realize your sin, confess and ask for forgiveness, your relationship with God remains sour and the Holy Spiritcannot come.PRAYERFather many have lost fellowship of the Holy Spirit. In this lent,Holy Spirit our faithful guide visit us again in Jesus name.. 55

The Holy Spirit will never be comfortable with sin. If there is no confession and repentance, the Holy Spirit cannot stay. The case of Ananias and Saphira was a lietold and the Holy Spirit would not take it lightly. There aremany in the Church whose native language is lie. When theylie, you think they are saying the truth; they are very good atit, so they keep on deceiving people. One thing is clear aboutsuch people; the Holy Spirit has no fellowship with them.Ananias and Saphira wanted to enjoy the praises of thepeople even when they did not deserve it. They wanted to belike Joseph called Barnabas (Acts 4:36-37), but the HolySpirit found them out. The Holy Spirit discovered theirdeceit, yet they failed to repentThere are people who are comfortable with sin and theycome to church, they are members of the Church council, officers, ministers in the Sanctuary, yet they indulge in Sin. Itwill not be too long; the Holy Spirit will find them out.Beloved, are you affected in this matter? Why not behavelike David and cry to God, `PRAYERAlmighty Father, too many Christians are behaving likeAnanias and Saphira we plead for mercy and ask for yourdivine encounter. 56

A sinner's heart is impure. When a Christian falls into sin, his circumcised heart becomes impure. When confession and repentance has taken place it is onlythen the blood of Jesus can bring about cleansing andrestoration. When the heart is affected, every other part of thebody is affected. Sin is a poison; it is capable of penetratingevery aspect of life. David pleaded with God to create in him apure heart in order to love God. The heart of man is the centre ofhis life therefore it must remain pure.A sinner, who is turning to God, must realize that, his heart isimpure. The purity of the heart will not take place until there isbrokenness. Until the sinner realizes the sin he has committedand is remorse about it.The last time you sinned against God, did you realize that yourheart had become impure? Did you have this experience ofDavid and you asked God to create in you a pure heart? If youdid not have the experience, it is most likely that you did notrealize the magnitude of the sin you committed. If genuinelyyou had the experience, and you have been forgiven you willnotice a revival in your soul that leads to spiritual growth andyou will have peace with God. Your confidence will berestored.PRAYERLord Jesus I surrender my heart to you today for a thoroughcleasing in Jesus name. 57

Prophet Jeremiah lamented the state of the heart when he said, \"the heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?\" It is difficult for anyother person to know what is going on in another person'sheart. The heart is the bedrock of everything we do, alloriginate from there. This is why God's demand of His childrenis \"Hear 0 Israel, the Lord your God is one Lord; and youshall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with allyour soul and with all your mind and with all your strength...”The love of God should occupy our hearts. We must makeeffort in the power of the Holy Spirit to keep our hearts pure ondaily basis. A child of God must allow the Holy Spirit to guidehis heart in the midst of these side attractions. The devil is goodat sowing seed in the heart of people. If you allow it, he knowshow to water it, so that it can germinate with a view to leadingyou to sin.The Lord Jesus says in Mark 7:21-23; \"Out of man's heartcomes evil thought... All these evils come from inside andmakes a man unclean\". To be able to stay clean is to bewashed in the blood even your heart. \"Above all else, guardyour heart, for it is the well spring of life\" (Prov 4:23).PRAYERKeep our heart pure O Lord and let all that come out of it 58

There is nothing a man does that is hidden from God. He is the discerner of the heart, He knows our intents and purposes it is possible to deceive fellow human beings, but you cannot deceive God. The Israelites were fasting fortheir own selfish interest in order to oppress others and denythem of their rights. They wanted God to respond and when noresponse was forth coming, they questioned God. In definiteterms God said the fasting with wrong motives is neveracceptable to Him.God will never honor any fasting that is self-centered aimed atundoing someone. Fasting that is characterized with quarreland strife is a waste of time, it is starving oneself. This is theposition of some people, yet they want this holy God torespond to their prayers. It is impossible to receive favor fromGod.This period can assist us to overcome everything that hindersus and the sin that so easily entangles. Many of us have beenweighed down spiritually, we hardly respond to the promptingof the Holy Spirit as a result of these entanglements. Checkyour fasting and make sure it is acceptable to God.PRAYERAlmighty Father, in this lent let our fasting be with genuinemotives and not with wrong motives, let our fasting becentered in your will and purpose. 59

Our text shows clearly the essentials of fasting. However for many all their fasting is to address their personal problems. If our fasting is limited to that it isshort of divine imperatives. It is very rare to see the entirechurch calling for a general fasting because of a member that isin problem. It is always a few in the congregation that may fastand pray for such a person for God's intervention. In some churches, people demand for money so that they canfast and pray for them. This practice has no biblical supportand this type of fasting is not acceptable to God. Do not think, perhaps if the problem is solved that it is God's way of fasting.Miracles can always come from any source not all are of God.The acceptable fasting is the type that is not self centered but isChrist entered. That is Christ is at the centre of it. It is aimed atmeeting the needs of others just as Christ has done for us. Ourfasting should be directed to loosen the chains of injustice inthe land. Some ministers or individuals have suffered injusticebecause the man on top does not like their face. Some know thetruth but for the fear of authority they keep quiet. Yet we callfor fasting and we want God to reveal his power. We cannot onone side support evil and turn to God and expect his favor.PRAYERLord we repent of our selfishness forgive us and renew a rightspirit in us in this lent. 60

God demands that our fasting should not only be to loose the chains of injustices, but to also untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke. Many are only concerned about their welfare. Their worship andeverything they do is personal to them, they do not see it inrelation to their fellow worshippers. There are some of us whohardly exchange greetings after the service. I will not besurprised to see some people who have never greeted some oftheir fellow Christians since they have been worshippingtogether in the same parish. Yet they see one another everySunday. There may be some special reasons for this type of behaviour inthe Church but it is lack of understanding of the body of Christ. If only we know that we are mutually dependent and that byGod's design we can't do without each other (1 Corinthians 12:12). Until we come to understand and appreciate what the bodyof Christ is, the call to loose the chains of injustice, setting theoppressed free and breaking every yoke in the lives of peoplewill not make meaning to us.The master is the example to follow; the Church must follow Hispattern. We must bear one another's burden, to this we have beencalled. Don't be obsessed with getting your own advantage.Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.PRAYERGrant to your Church a genuine concern for one another in spiritof love and encouragement in Jesus name. 61

We all desire to see more of the power of God in our generation yet we are living our lives to please ourselves. Power as of old is not so much evidentbecause our offences are many in their new dimensions by theday. Apostle Paul lamented; who will deliver us from all these? Why is it that the power as it were in the days of the apostles is notso much evident in the Church today? Men and women called byGod, faithful to God, they believe the word of God, they possessthe anointing, yet the power is less evident. While the minister is labouring in fasting and prayer intercedingon behalf of his congregation, the devil is busy using some of themembers to spread malicious talk against the minister. Theminister is at the altar praying for the congregation but manywithin the congregation are not reconciled to that minister. Insidethem you see hatred, envy and jealousy against the minister. Theman of God may not have done anything wrong but because of thesermon he preached. This is not limited to ordained ministersalone, there are lay ministers undergoing similar situation. Insuch environment, how can the power of God move as it ought to?If our God is the God from whom no secrets are hidden, then howwould you expect His power to be made manifest in the Church? The arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull tohear, but iniquities, offenses, sins have hidden his face from us.PRAYERAlmighty God, your ear is always opened to our prayers, help usto overcome our iniquities so that your mighty arm will berevealed in our generation. 62

There were some false rumors circulating about some Christians. The rumors were unfounded and baseless. When they got to know, they were highly depressed. Two things we must learn from these damaging reports. First, that we must be sure of whatever we say anywhere andanytime. Do not report issues because somebody said it, makesure it is true before you spread it if only it will build the body ofChrist. Secondly, there are a lot of rumors without element oftruth. The devil has taken it over, using it as a weapon to destroythe Church of Jesus Christ. Rumors have gone to show that, there is a lot of smoke in the air, but no fire anywhere.Beloved, one of the weapons that the devil is using to destroythis end time Church is malicious talk slander of differentmagnitude etc. Too many damaging reports about one anothereven against anointed men of God. These malicious talks donot even end within the four walls of the Church but even in themidst of unbelievers. There are some reports which even when they are true, it isshameful to say them. But some Christians find pleasure tellingthese stories. Mind you, such behaviour helps to mutilate thebody of Christ. He who destroys the temple of God. God willdestroy.PRAYERLord Jesus, let your spirit convict as many that are spreadingrumors in your church in Jesus name. 63

This period of lent should be a time for self examination, a time of sober reflection with a view to making amend as individuals, Church and the nation. The society is socorrupt, nowhere you look into and you have good testimony.Sin is very devastating, capable of penetrating every segmentof life with its multiplier effects.Isaiah lamented the state of the nation Israel, he bemoaned thedearth of truth in the land. It was nowhere to be found, whoevershuns evil becomes a prey. It is unfortunate that the things forwhich you condemn the society are very evident in the Church,if not worse. Shall we continue to say and write about it withoutany concrete step to correct this ugly situation; this is thequagmire the Church has found herself? Repentance can beginwith you, gradually; it will begin to penetrate the Church. With the power of the Holy Spirit, it will spread like a wild fire.I want to encourage you let us get up together for a positivechange. Your life is secured in the hollows of His hands.Together let us begin the process of reformation that will makethe Church a better place.PRAYERTo know the truth, is to be free, to speak the truth, is to beenlightened. To think the truth is to be pure in heart. To act thetruth is to be perfect. Lord help your faithful, to hold on to thetruth always . 64

When the devil is willing to stamp his mark on people or get them involved in an unwholesome habit, the first thing he does is to make sure thatthe person is no longer sensitive to the danger therein. Toachieve his goal, he will create a very strong argument in themind of the person to defend his action.Paul in our text talks about people losing sensitivity to whatthey do. Such people have given themselves over tosensuality which makes them to indulge more and more inevery kind of impurity with a desire for more. How sad it isthat Christians and their wards are increasing in impurity. For example, when girls started wearing miniskirts, we werehighly uncomfortable with it because it exposes theirnakedness. Anyone who talks about it is regarded asuncivilized. Now not only that they wear dresses that aretransparent, they deliberately expose parts of their body. This attitude is a degeneration to the loss of all sensitivity, and giving of oneself to sensuality, thus promoting impurityand luring innocent souls to all forms of ungodly acts. Thiscannot be a true identity of a Christian.PRAYERO Lord Jesus, make us to be sensitive to whatever we do anddo them to glorify your holy name. 65

Bitterness is a spiritual virus that destroys a person. When it is nurtured to maturity, it leads its client to committing murder. A good example is Cain and Abel. Without anyjust cause, Cain developed an incurable form of bitterness in hisheart against his brother Abel. Why should Abel present anacceptable offering to God whereas his own was rejected? Thebitterness in Cain led him to commit murder. It is amazing to findChristians harbouring bitterness in their hearts. How are they ableto combine it with the Holy Spirit that made them children ofGod? It is easy to discover it when you are spirit-filled becauseyou cannot allow it. Some can pretend as if they are not bitteragainst their neighbours, but deliberately they will avoid whatthey ought to do.Bitterness may be transfered from one person to another fromparents to Children and from generation to generation. These setsof people relate together, but inwardly, there is the monster calledbitterness. Such people come to the Lord's Table at every givenopportunity, feeding on the body and blood of Jesus Christsharing in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, this is absurd avoid it.There is a definite instruction in our text to get rid of everybitterness; because where there is bitterness, there can never beany meaningful spiritual growth. It is a virus; it destroys get rid ofit.PRAYERAlmighty Father, I do not want any bitterness in my heart. If thereis any; let the yoke be broken that the love of Christ will flowthrough me 66

Yesterday we said, bitterness is a spiritual Virus that destroys a person. How do we now cure this deadly disease? There must be the circumcision of the heart.\"and circumcision is of the heart by the spirit, not by thewritten code\". (Romans 2:29). The aspect in our heart onwhich sin breeds must be cut off, then bitterness will not beable to thrive. We must see people the way Christ sees them. There and thenHis love will compel us. \"For Christ's love compels us,because we are convinced that if one died in Christ,...he is anew creation; the old has gone, the new has come\" (2 Cor5:14-17). A heart that is saturated with the love of Christ cannever have room for bitterness, because love covers amultitude of sin. (1 Pet.4:8). Bitterness is sin. God will neverhear our prayers. \"If I had cherished sin in my heart, theLord would not have listened\". (Psalm 66:18).To be able to enjoy fellowship with the Holy Spirit, we mustbe in fellowship with our fellow men. It must be sincere; thereis no secret that is hidden from God. \"But if we walk in thelight, as he is the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his son purifies us from all sin”.PRAYERHelp me Lord to love others. As you have loved me that myfellowship with others will be yours truly. 67

It can be sporadic when sometime we Christians express our anger as if we have become gods. If God were to express His anger in such manner against our offences ondaily basis, who will be able to stand? We have the right to beangry but we do not have the right to undermine the place ofGod who has the final say.We have seen people who keep their anger against theirneighbours over time. How do these people enjoy theirChristian walk with God every day? The moment you fail toforgive, it is impossible for God to answer your prayers. Youcannot be at peace with God when you are not at peace withyour neighbour even with yourself. There is no free flow ofthe Holy Spirit. God did not say we shouldn't be angry, butthere are conditions we must fulfill. First, we must avoid sinwhen we express our anger. Some Yield themselves totemptation, some destroy things, and others will take somedecisions that undermine the will to God.Be mindful of what you do when you are angry. Do not allowsomebody lead you to committing sin. This is the trick of theDevil. Watch it.PRAYERAlmighty Father, your anger is an expression of love. Eventhough we may be angry, may we not yield to sin in Jesusname. Amen. 68

Yesterday, we said there are two conditions we must fulfill. The second condition is that you should not allow the sun to go down while you are still angry.Simply put, your anger should end with the day. Whether theone who offended came to apologize or not, you should forgiveand forget. This is made possible as a result of the work of theHoly Spirit in our lives. When we allow the mind of Christ toprevail, forgiveness becomes easy. Because at this point wewill appreciate how much we have been forgiven by Christ. To some it has become demonic, uncontrollable. Little thingsspark it off. It has ruined marriages, denied people of theirprivileges and opportunities. While some lost their lives, othersare regretting their actions.Perhaps anger has become a problem in your life. Once you areangry, it is difficult to calm you down until you have satisfiedyour heart desire. Beloved, you can be free today, if you arewilling to allow Jesus Christ to have His way in your life. Let itbe established in your heart that, your anger in no way can bringabout the righteous life that God is demanding. It is always abad testimony when you have expressed your anger. If you willhumbly confess to God and tell him to help you, you willovercome.PRAYERDear Father, many of us are guilty help us in this lent that ourlives will be like yours. 69

The task of making the Church an ideal Church in this end time must be taken seriously by all Christians. We must address some of the ills that are impediments topeople coming to the Church. One of the ills is slander. It iseating very deep into the fabrics of our spiritual life. It hasscattered some congregations, robbed some people of theirpersonalities and prestige. To slander is to say what is untrue about another person inorder to hurt him or her. In this case, we do not even carewhether it hurts. \"Slander is false charges ormisrepresentations about another person\". As Christians, weare meant to say what we know to be true. Not what ourconfidant told us about somebody and we assume it to be so. Ifyou have not confirmed what you heard, do not say or act onit. Be careful when you form an opinionWe have discovered that some of the things we say aboutothers are purely based on deductions and misunderstanding. In fact, you are not meant to deduce and draw conclusion.Potiphar's wife wanted Joseph to sleep with her. When Josephdeclined, she resorted to slander. Such people are in theChurch saying things that are untrue. It is time to stop slander.PRAYERAlmighty Father, we pray thee to deliver your people fromslander in Jesus name.Amen. 70

If we are not careful, we will join others to slander innocent souls. The rate at which news spread in the Church is very alarming especially about Individuals. I want topassionately appeal to all my readers to be very careful of whatyou hear and what you say. Let it be your attitude that you arenot meant to hear and say everything. Sometimes, whenpeople are talking, close your ears to what they say if it doesn'tedify. The devil is playing so many tricks on Christians in thisend time. There are some reasons why people slander. Hatredis one of them. The psalmist says, “with words of hatred theysurround me; they attack me without cause\" (Ps. 109:3). Theinformation somebody may be giving you about anotherperson may be as a result of the hatred he has developedagainst the person. Without knowing the root, you join him toslander the person. This is why we have to be very careful sothat we do not allow others to lead us into temptation.Anyone with evil heart derives pleasure in slandering. Afterall nothing good will proceed out of it. \"The good man bringsgood things out of the good stored up in his heart, and theevil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in hisheart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks\"(Lk 6:45)PRAYERLord Jesus, let there be no room for hatred in my heart whereslander can have its root 71

When we allow slander to thrive, its negative results are bound to manifest. In the case of Jezebel against Naboth, the result was murder.David lamented in Psalm 31:13 \"For I hear the slander ofmany; there is terror on every side; they conspire againstme and plot to take my life\". In the case of Naboth, the falseaccusations were initiated by the authority. It is obvious thatslander could take place at every step of the ladder. Slanderresults in the separation of friendship. \"A perverse man stirsup dissension, and gossip separates close friends\". (Prov.16: 28)It can also result to strife. \"Without wood fire goes out, without gossip a quarrel dies down\". (Prov. 26:20). Slanderleads to quarrel among people who have been living togetherin peace. Once there is quarrel, the seed of discord is sownamong brethren. Apostle Paul admonished Titus to see to itthat this ugly disease is not given any room among brethren. If at present, this disease is ravaging your Church, fellowship or friendship, there is the need for a solemnassembly where confession is necessaryPRAYERAlmighty Father, grant us the grace to overcome slander inany of its manifestation and to live in peace with one another. 72

The aim of every slanderous person is to destroy the person involved. If the false charges are able to see the light of the day, then the person is bound to face theconsequences. Like Naboth, the false accusations against himdeserved death, thus he was murdered. Some have sufferedslander in their places of work and lost their jobs. In fact, manyhave suffered untold hardships as a result of slander. For thosewho are slanderous according to our text, God will silencethem. They may think they have succeeded, but destructionawaits them. Whatever you sow you will surely reap.Perhaps, what you are enjoying today is the result of slander. You need to confess your sins to God and carry out restitutionso that you can be forgiven. To you it may be a forgotten issue, this is untrue. Heaven and earth will pass away but not even aniota of the word of God will pass away. God will surely destroyall slanderous persons. \"He will repay them for their sins anddestroy them for their wickedness; the Lord our God willdestroy them\". (Ps 94:23) \"Let evil recoil on those whoslander me; in your faithfulness destroy them” (Ps. 54:5)Beloved, let us be mindful of what we say, if not we will beencouraging the work of slanderous persons.PRAYERHeavenly Father deliver your church from wolves whoslanders your people. 73

Beginning from today, we shall spend few days to examine the tongue. The tongue is an important aspect of our body.Although the Tongue is a smallpart of the body, it does great things. If we critically lookat the different types of sins, we will realize that many ofthem are traceable to the tongue. If we are able to tame thetongue, we would save ourselves in many ways. Jamescompared the tongue to bits that are put in the mouths ofhorses, so that they can obey. The horse is a domestic animal which is very helpful toman especially in the desert area. It can travel a longdistance in the desert without water. As helpful as it is,man can only control it with the help of the bits in itsmouth. He also compared it with the rudder which thepilot uses in steering the ship. Without it, the ship cannotbe steered. The comparisms help us to appreciate the roleof the tongue. If we do not control it then, it can render thewhole body useless. Many have not been able to put theirtongue under control. How do you use your tongue? Ifanyone is not at fault in what he says then he is perfect.PRAYERThank you Father for making my tongue to function well.In this lent O Lord, Purify my tongue that I may be perfect. 74

Every child of God must control his tongue. Not only that the tongue is mischievous but also inconsistent. We use it to bless the God of love, tosing His praise, to petition Him and we expect God toanswer us. With the same we curse our fellow men, madein the image of God. It is wrong for a child of God to use histongue wrongly. I am always baffled when I see believersusing their tongue uncontrollably. This is very commonwith drivers; they are quick to see the mistakes of othersand to respond immediately with a curse. They arecomfortable misusing their tongues. They think and feel itis a normal way of life.I see Christians when they quarrel with neighbours usingabsurd language for each other. Some can even do it insidethe Church. With our tongue we abuse our children, ourpartners and others. With the same tongue we talk to God.It's quite amazing that many do not see anything wrongwith it. I do not know whether you use your tongueflippantly. Ask God to deal with your tongue. Whoeveruses his tongue carelessly is spiritually unhealthy.PRAYERMy tongue 0 Lord purify let my tongue be a blessing toall people. Let my tongue glorify you always. 75

It is pertinent for us to identify different types of tongues so that our taming can be properly done. The Bible talks about different tongues.1. The Viper's Tongue: This tongue is used to poison; it is like that of a viper. (Job 20: 16). It inflames, angers, sows evil seeds in people's hearts.2. Flattering Tongue: This tongue specializes in flattering. (Psalm 5:9).3. The Proud Tongue: This tongue is proud. (Ps. 123). Full of self4. Lying Tongue: These are perpetual liars, never speaking the truth. (Ps. 109:2; Provo 6: 17).5. Deceit Tongue: (Ps. 120:2).6. False Tongue: Falsehood it's characteristics. (Ps. 120:2).7. Froward Tongue: (Prov. 15:4). Careless, lacks control, foolish8. Wholesome Tongue: (Prov. 15:4). It heals, soothes, joyful9. Healthy Tongue: (Prov. 12:8). Full of wisdom, love encouragement10. Soft Tongue: (Prov. 2515).Agentle tongue11. Backsliding Tongue: (Prov. 25:23)Where does your tongue fall into? Besides nos 8,9 & 10, the taming ofthe tongue is required. When Jesus Christ comes into your life, by thepower of the Holy Spirit, your tongue will be refined. It will behealthy and wholesome.PRAYERLord Jesus, let my tongue be wholesome and healthy where streamsof healing and blessings flow. 76

The tongue is a perfect description of your personality. According to James, the tongue is a little member of the body it looks insignificant, yet it does greatthings. It boasts of great things, even beyond what the personsometimes can do. Its fire is very wild, it spreads very fastand it consumes with its negative or positive consequences. The tongue is described as a world of iniquity. It is only JesusChrist that can purify our tongues. And it becomes a world ofrighteousness. When the tongue has not undergone thepurification that the blood of Jesus Christ gives, it becomes amajor source of defilement to the body. When it has beenconceived in the heart, the mouth speaks and it leads todefilement.By nature the tongue is evil, unruly, full of deadly poison, loaded with bitter strife. This is evident in the life of somepeople. When we allow Christ to deal with our tongue, instead of curse, we will use it to bless God and for goodconversation which ultimately leads to good relationshipamong brethren. There are people who have been isolatedbecause of their tongues; I hope you are not one of them. If itis ask Jesus to refine your tongue today.PRAYERFather, let my tongue be a blessing to others let my tonguepromote godliness and human relations. 77

Sin is a burden to the sinner. The sinner is not relieved of the burden until he confesses and he receives forgiveness from God or from his neighbour as thecase may be. When a sinner is yet to receive forgiveness, there is no peace. His relationship with God has beensevered; he cannot enjoy any true fellowship with God.During prayer sessions, when we are asked to confess oursins, we must be specific. Too many people ask forforgiveness without telling God what they are to be forgivenof. Such confessions are not acceptable to God. We must tellGod where we have wronged him and the area we want tomake amend. Forgiveness becomes easy when we sincerelyconfess our sins to God, our transgressions are forgiven andbecause they are forgiven, we receive blessings from theLord. The lenten season is gradually coming to an end, how farhave you gone with the Lord? If there is any unconfessed sin, this is the time to ask for forgiveness. You cannot afford to beseparated from the Lord for too long if you continue, thedevil is not through yet. You may suffer another spiritualdisaster.PRAYERYour blessings 0 Lord. I desire, May I receive a totalcleansing in the blood in Jesus nameAmen. 78

If we fail to confess our sins, it may lead to a spiritual disaster. A sin not confessed always leads to another. You cannot cover it successfully.Judas Iscariot was one of the twelve. He willingly accepted theresponsibilities of betraying his master and Lord. Perhaps hethought it was a clever way of getting cheap money, after all,Jesus would disappear as he has done in the past. He never knewhe has offered himself to the devil as an instrument to accomplishhis goal. Thus Judas Iscariot went ahead to betray the son of God.To his utter dismay, Jesus Christ did not disappear as usual. Whatcould be the problem? He muttered. The next day Jesus was still atthe custody of the Chief priest and the elders. They decided that hemust be put to death. They bound Him and led Him away andhanded him over to Pilate. Judas could not believe his eyes. Whenhe discovered that Jesus was condemned, he became remorsefuland he had to return their money. He discovered that he had sinnedby betraying innocent blood.Judas took the wrong step. Instead of uncovering his sin by goingto confess to the master and ask for forgiveness, he went andhanged himself. What a disaster! From fry pan to fire, from minorto major. He could not help it, he committed suicide. If he hadgone to ask for forgiveness, he would have been forgiven. Whenyou realize you are a sinner, you must confess (uncover) andrepentPRAYERDear Holy Spirit help the sinner to return today in Jesus name. 79

Peter could not imagine how he would deny Jesus. He trusted his ego. For him it was impossible. Little did he know that it is fruitless to rely on the arm of flesh. It is an embodiment of disappointment. Peter was stillcounting on his ability, when Jesus told him that he wasgoing to disown him three times before the roster crows.Peter could not see himself denying his master. What onearth could lead to that? Sometimes this is our attitude tosin. We are too full of ourselves or over confident.Peter who before now was following Jesus Christintimately was at a distance in the courtyard. His denialstarted with a servant girl who tried to identify him. When Peter eventually denied his master the third time, theroster crowed and he remembered the prediction of theLord. He broke down and wept bitterly. He realized his sinand confessed and his master forgave him. It was thebrokenness that helped him and he went back to Jesus. \"Iwill arise and go to my father and say to my father, 1 havesinned against heaven and against you.\" Rise above thatsin todayPRAYERKeep your servants from willful sins and help us toovercome sin daily and may they not rule over us. 80

Some people try to classify lie. Lie has no classification and no degree. It can send the Holy Spirit packing. Some years back, according to a brother, he was tempted to lieas a result of food. For five days, it was hell. The brother lostcomplete fellowship with God. He could not relate with Him. Ifhe had died within that period, brethren would have thought hehad gone to heaven. Indeed sin separates one from God, thatbeautiful communion is taken away and you cannot beconfident before Him any longer. With tears and much labourthe brother got restored to fellowship with God.A child of God must avoid sin if he cherishes his fellowshipwith God. David was a victim; he was robbed of his joy ofsalvation. As a result of sin, there came a barrier between himand God, he lost intimacy with God. He had no courage to cometo God again. Beloved, sin is a disaster, it is a tragedy.Perhaps you still play with sin, you depend on weeklyconfession. Your going to the Pastor to confess is very constant. How long will you continue this way? Are you aware that youare yet to experience the freedom that is found in Christ?Freedom over sin, the world and the devil. Let this freedom beyour desire today. Ask the Lord of lords to come to your heartand that yoke will be broken.PRAYERLord forgive every sin of your people that the joy of salvationwill be ours. 81

David's plea with God was, \"restore to me the joy of your salvation\". One reason why people hide their sins is as a result of the consequences. Man may make effort to hidehis sin, but he is only prolonging the evil days. Sin is a strange bedfellow. It is difficult to harbour it. The panacea is to confess andforsake it.David did not run away from it. Hear what Nathan the prophettold him, \"Now therefore, the sword will never depart from yourhouse because you despised me and took the wife of Uriah theHittite to be your own ... Out of your own household I am goingto bring calamity upon you. Before your very eye I will take yourwives and give them to one who is close to you, and he will liewith your wives in broad daylight. You did it in secret, but I willdo this thing in broad daylight before all Israel\" (2 Sam 12:10-12).David admitted, he didn't argue he did not use his authorityagainst Nathan the prophet, he did not run from reality. He said, \"Ihave sinned against the Lord\". If he had considered theconsequences, perhaps he would have had a rethink, but he facedit as it demanded. That in itself brought forgiveness to him. Areyou afraid of the consequences, I will advise you to meet yourPastor or anyone you consider to be more spiritually matured. It istime for the restoration of your joy of salvation.PRAYERLord Jesus help me to overcome any sin and its consequences, grant me the grace to live above sin. 82

Achan didn't take God's command seriously. To him, it was small thing, but the effect was felt by the entire nation and his family was wiped out. We need to know that ouractions affect more people than just ourselves. Just imagine ifAchan had known that it will affect other people, perhaps hewouldn't have yielded to the temptationJoshua would not allow sin to ravage the entire nation. There isthe need to undergo purification rites with a view to eliminatingthe sin from the community. Sin as usual cannot be hidden, Achanwas discovered and he had to pay for his sin. The community ofIsrael is of God, it must be holy because He is holy. When the nation was purged of sin, there were some far reachingconsequences. There was an encouragement from God; Hispresence was with them in the battle. The promise of guidanceand victory was re-assured. God gave them the technique of howthey are to conquer the land. They were free to keep the plunderand livestock from the battle for themselves. Achan was trying tobe faster than his legs, but he didn't live to enjoy this blessing.God is demanding consecration from His people; we cannotafford to encourage sin. Many are handling sacred things but theykeep on defiling themselves. You may not be destroyed likeAchan now, but hell is somewhere. Repent and be saved.PRAYERLord Jesus, every Achan that is in the body of Christ, grant themthe grace to repent and forsake their sins 83

As Christians, we are meant to be like Jesus. His attitude is that of compassion and forgiveness. This is the way Christ is dealing with us even though we sin againsthim. As our advocate seated on the right hand of God, he speaksto the Father in our defense, for He is our hope. When others are caught in sin, and we are quick to passjudgment, it will be unlike Christ. To do so is to act as if we havenever sinned. Judgment belongs to God, we have to showcompassion and forgiveness when we might have condemnedsin. It is our duty to help sinners to come back to God. Somepeople seem to jubilate when a member is suspended in thechurch. I hear them say, \"It is too much of him that serves himbetter\". Such people deserve our prayers and encouragement.Because at that period of suspension, he had been handed overto Satan. We need to pray for them. Visit them and encourage them not todeny the faith. What they are passing through is for a moment. This is our role. However, what we see nowadays is to avoidthem and make them to suffer abandonment. We do not careabout them. As a result of this attitude, some of them lost theirfaith. If you have such people around you, visit them today andpray with them for whatever they need without hesitation.PRAYERWith compassion and forgiveness, may we bring sinners backto you in Jesus name. 84

For three years now, the Lord Jesus Christ has been going about proclaiming the imminence of the kingdom of God, demonstrated the life in the kingdom by healingthe sick, giving sight to the blind, setting the captives free andannouncing the year of the Lord's favour. How can men laden with sin be able to enter the kingdomwithout the supreme sacrifice? Thus he willingly chose the wayof the cross. A sinner is helpless and powerless. There is asaying that \"an offender is not worthy enough to settle hiscase\". The offender needs somebody who is worthy tointercede on his behalf. For us to be reconciled to God JesusChrist took our punishment on Himself and He was able tosecure eternal salvation for us all.Our iniquities were laid on Him. To make it a bit meaningful, itis like you were taken to a place where refuse are dumped withyour best dress. On getting there, all the rubbish was poured onyou. Imagine how it looks like, the odour you are subjected to,the stains and many other things. At the end of the day, you maywash yourself and get a better dress but the social stigma is stillon you, (an experience you may not forget). This is nothingcompared to what Christ has done for us. What manner of lovefor sinners, we must do likewise.PRAYERHelp us O Lord, by following the way of the cross, let sinnerscome to the knowledge of your saving grace 85

The psalmist opens up a broken heart in his prayer for energy when seriously ill. He acknowledges that his Illness is related to his Sin. His prayerframe with a note of confidence for God to show mercyand heal him. God is a merciful, forgiving God. Whenwe Sin, It is Important to tell the Lord that we are sorryand ask Him for forgiveness. Our repentant hearts as weconfess our sins before God will bring His forgiveness. Our confidence in Christ does not make us lazy, negligent, or careless. But, on the contrary, it awakensus, urges us on, and make us active in living righteouslives and doing Good. God forgives and forgets, He ispleased with those who are really contrite in heart. In fulfilling the role of his royal ancestor as God'sanointed King over Israel, the son of David alsoexperienced hostility of men and the betrayal of a trustedassociate, and thus fulfilled the lamentation thereof.Experiencing God's presence will certainly establish, setand touch our emotions to dwell with Him forever.PRAYERLord, purify our hearts and uphold us, set us in yourpresence and grant us zeal in your service.Amen. 86

This period of time God seeks a man who is persistent. The psalmist said, \"Glory ye in his holy name; let the heart of them Rejoice that seek the Lord. Seekthe LORD, and his strength: seek his face evermore\" (Ps105:3-4). If you talk to Him today and don't hear His voice, get into the word and find out what you are missing. We are in a covenant relationship with God. But a lot ofChristians have missed out on God's healing power. HisPower in perplexing situations; and His financialprovisions in times of great distress, all because they werenot patient enough to seek his face. David was confident inhis prayer to God to deliver him from all those who conspireto bring him down.God is faithful, press hard after Him, irrespective of whatyou might think. Though treacherous enemies are aroundwhether from inside or outside the Kingdom or both, Hewill never give up on you. God's unfailing love is that Hehears the prayer of those in need and saves them that arecontrite in heart. The good things promised in the LORD'sCovenant are for you to seek His face.PRAYERFather, take from us all hardness of heart and contempt ofyour word.Amen 87

A soul won into the kingdom is invaluable. Those who are at the mercy of the dangers of Hell, if they are won back to Christ, angels in heaven engage in an unendingjoy. I have been trying to fathom why angels in heaven are happybecause every child of God has a guardian angel. They areprivileged to see what heaven looks like, more so God ispreparing a new one. They can imagine what the new one isgoing to be. Not only that, they are also privileged to see theircolleagues who rebelled against God where they were throwninto (Jude 6).When people repent they are rescued from it, therefore it evokesjoy in them and they appreciate the salvation they have got. Ifangels in heaven are concerned about the salvation of mankindwhereas, Jesus did not die for them. Then we should all the morebe concerned about salvation of our fellow man. Nothing toomuch to be invested in their salvation. Our Lord gave a parableabout the woman who lost a silver coin.Ordinarily she would have forgotten because it does not worththe inconvenience of looking for it. But the woman took the painto search diligently for it. When she found it she invited peopleto rejoice with her. If such effort could be made to recovermaterial things, how much more a soul. If heaven is happy aboutthe soul, heaven will not forget the one who brought the soul.PRAYERGive me grace 0 Lord, to look out for the lost, that the joy inheaven will be unending and your kingdom will be enlarged. 88

Jesus called Levi a tax collector and went to his house to have Dinner. Jesus made them to understand that it is not the healthy person that needs a doctor, it is the sickperson. Jesus wanted them to know that His mission is to thesinners to win them back to God.God is interested in the suffering masses, the poor, the sinner, those in one form of bondage or the other. Every Christianought to have this same burden to help or reach out to them.Sinners are without Jesus Christ.Do you have a mission as a Christian? Don't behave likesinners but share the gospel with sinners. Let us prepareourselves so that Christ can come as a friend, nobody is toobad that Christ cannot reach unto. We have a mission to allsinners. Let us actually examine ourselves and drop thatgarment of pride, that \"holier than thou\" attitude. Let us bebroken inwardly so that we can manifest as real Christians. Itis only when you are broken and crushed in heart and spiritthat Jesus can come as friend; and it is when Christ is in youthat you can reach out to sinner. We should avoidcondemning sinners, but through persuasion, let us win themto Christ.PRAYERCome to us today so that we would be your friend forever.Amen. 89

There is so much pretence today in the Church.Aman can come to the Church because he is interested in a Christian girl. He joins the prayer band or a noticeableministry and thereafter approaches the sister for marriage, thesister unknowingly could yield and later, after marriage theman goes back to his old nature. So much jealousy, envy and hatred in the heart of people yetthey pretend to love. We share the sign of \"peace\" yet there is somuch quarreling, fighting, rancor, gossip and characterassassination in our midst, so where is the \"Peace\"? Sometimespeople appear to be very helpful and friendly whereas in theirhearts they are full of bitterness, grudges and malice. In Col.3:8, we are admonished to rid ourselves of all evil practices andto put on the \"new self' which means that our conduct shouldmatch our faith in Christ.A broken and contrite heart has no room for pretence. Thepsalmist pleaded that he should not be counted among thewicked or those who speak cordially with their neighbors butinside their heart is evil intent against others. Let everypretence be a thing of the past so that we can approach God witha pure heart.PRAYERDeliver us from pretence and pretenders in the church and aswe look forward to Easter may we die with you and be raised tonew life in Christ. 90

Man may forget but God will never forget. As a Father and a Pastor, I have been able to appreciate the love that a mother has towards her child especially babies. It is ataboo to hear that a mother forgets her baby. However with therecent developments in our society especially the activities ofinsurgents, parents have been forced to run for their dear lives. With this development it is no longer a surprise when God said\"though a mother may forget her baby.\" This is because we arehuman beings who can always forget. Even when we are notwilling, situations have forced mothers to forget their babies. In our passage, God says though a mother can forget her childHimself will not forget us. What an encouraging word to thosewith a sense of abandonment. He says you are engraved on HisPalms, He will never forget you for a second. I wonder how manyof us can afford not looking at our Palms? We should never thinkthat we are forgotten by God. He is already taking you to higherground; believe it and it will be so. It is this love that promptedGod to send His begotten son so that we can be restored back tohim. Tomorrow we shall be with him on the cross of Calvary. Isincerely hope that his passion, crucifixion, death, burial andresurrection would impact on you thus leading to eternal life inChrist Jesus.PRAYERThank you Lord for the love you have for your children andengraving us on your Palms. It is an assurance that you care forme. 91

What makes today good Friday? How would you describe the harrowing experience of Mary the mother of Jesus? Her son died as a criminal. Thescripture says, \"Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree\"(Gal. 3:13).What makes it a Good Friday to the Apostles? That their masterdied the death of a criminal, what a disgrace, how many Rabbisdied like a criminal, where will they hide their faces after now? What makes it Good Friday for those who have benefitted fromHis ministry and they are looking forward for more? What about the religious leaders? Surely it was a Good Friday. What about Jesus Christ? Is it a Good Friday? When the Fatherseemed not to have heard His prayer, (Lk.22:42). For Him, it isa Good Friday when He said, \"It is finished\" For all people is ita Good Friday? Yes indeed. A Friday with all the attributes ofgoodness. Salvation procured, Men fully reconciled to God,Satan disgraced. Now no more condemnation for those who arein Christ Jesus which includes Mary the mother of Jesus, all theApostles, religious leaders like Nicodemus who accepted Himas Lord and Saviour. Even criminals, it is a good Friday if theyaccept Him.PRAYERAlmighty Father, thank you for my salvation in Christ. As Icelebrate it, let me die with him in order to resurrect with Him. 92
