Santoni “Bow In The Presence of Greatness” is a well comprised mixtape featuring industry tracks as well as original productions. It is one of those “press play and let it play” compilations. The tittle is truly testament to the artist on the wax. He is great in every sense of the word, being one of SC’s most lyrical and talented MC’s to date. His wordplay and use of witty metaphoric references really captivates one who listens while relating to his real life some times gruesome topics. Track 3 and 5 of this mixtape should defiantly be shopped to major labels for they have the ability to take over the airways, but overall this is just a great piece of art and we can only hope that J. Santoni continues giving us Jewels like this.4.6 originality creativity hit quality sound quality lyrical qualityOverallRating Jesse Davis’s “Just the Beginning” mixtape speaks to the truthful fact that he is just getting started taking over and industry that is void of lyrical content. In a game where it’s not cool to be the smart guy or to actually use parts of speech such as metaphors to portray your message through song. Jesse Davis has comprised a mixtape full of nothing but in you face hard hitting punchlines and metaphors. He is expected to change the face of mainstream hip hop giving way to the bubble gum rap on the air ways today. The track ‘More Than Rapping” signifies that its not about the fame and dollars bills but about the lives he can change with his music. South Starr Entertainment is an independent “Twerk Off is only themusic group that incorporates the best and beginning oflatest in musical entertainment. Based in Augusta, GASouth Starr Entertainment has been dazzlingaudiences with quality hits since the early2000’s and since then they have created abuzz in Southeastern America and is on theirway to becoming a heavy hitter in the hiphop music industry. South StarrEntertainment CEO TJ Turmon says that hislabel is an industry leader in promotion, artist development, production and moreand with all that talent under one roof onecan understand why critics consider them thehottest new hip hop act coming out of thesouth since cash money. Specifically thosecritics were referring to Rolla who has hadprior success with singles such as “NoDraws”, and now “Twerk Off” featuring theartist Slugga. In 2007 “No Draws” launchedSouth Starr Entertainment into the limelightsparking a headlining tour and gaining playon many southern radio stations. Fans havesince anticipated a hit to rival “No Draws”and some critics predict that where “NoDraws” launched South StarrEntertainment’s musical career “Twerk Off”will help make the label the mega supergroup it inspires to be. You can catch SouthStarr Entertainment performing all over thecountry especially since they haveannounced the Twerk Off Tour; set forSummer 2015 hitting cities such as Charlotte,NC, Atlanta, GA and many more. The PartyPack is now in the works and is set to dropsoon. It will feature the tracks “Bandz”, “NoDraws” along with “Twerk Off”. Rolla says“Twerk Off” is only the beginning of the riseof an empire where he plans to flood theradio with hits all year long along aside hisSouth Starr Entertainment family, racking upawards and billboard topping hits. So, itappears that under estimating South StarrEntertainment has proven fatal as they haveproved their selves as a force to reckon withand only God knows what’s next for thisgroundbreaking, talented musical group.Southern Plug Magazine CarolinaHipHopCultureMagazine.com Page 10

But when I met Rolla, he had a different A: Honestly speaking, we're just trying to be as successful as weflare being that he was raised in Philadelphia and lived in South possibly can. We're just trying to be the best we can be in theCarolina, so that gave him a slightly different edge. As far as realmSlugga is concerned: I met him through a mutual friend of mind. of entertainment. And by doing so, we'll be able to reach backThey wanted to introduce us because they felt like his style and and help others achieve their goals. It's a full circle when itpersonality would fit well with the SSE brand. They knew that I comes to us.specialized in artist development and the rest is history. Q: So you guys are masters of music and most artist or mogulsQ: So \"No Drawz\" being the first single to really take over, how once they reach a certain height withdid your life change after the success of the single? their music also break into other industries, so are there any otherA: Well, life did change with the release of that single in business ventures that you guysparticular. We're definitely looking into fashion, film. I'verequests just started pouring in. It’s like, we went from being been in contact with a few movie producersinvited to open up for major artists to being the “headline” of the who are actually interested in the ideas that I have for severalevent…It was completely a humbling experience. There’s productions.nothing like it. Q: (Rolla and Slugga individual answers) are there any soloQ: (TJ) so have you been shopping \"Twerk Off\" to major labels or projects that you are working on?are you indie until you die? A: (Rolla) Yeah man...I'm currently finishing up my solo singleA: Of course, labels have been inquiring about quite a few of our called \"Bandz\". A few months back I leaked a smallrecords and there are some things in the works. As for right now, snippet of it and it had everybody going crazy! I haven't thought of the title just yet but, the records that I haveA: Lol…It’s crazy that you ask that question in particular. And for it so far is making it hard for me to choose an actual single.actually, we were in the process of going through some beats inthe studio and started freestyling. THE BIG CAROLINA HOPE Lil Ru, his career, and now his comeback By: Darren James

Q: Some consider you a legend on the Carolina hip hop scene so what advice Page 14 would you give a young lady coming in the game? A:Well that is great to know, but what I would tell an upcoming female artist is to stay grinding, humble, learn the game , make good music and the stayed prayed up from the negativity! Oh and get that Money baby lol. Q: I was at your show a few years ago at Benedict College homecoming concert and your music then was different from what I have heard from you prior, so we know versatility is the name of the game when it comes to you but tell me what we can expect from you next like how do you as an innovator plan to switch up the style in the future? A: I plan to continue to create and separate myself from the rest by continuing to be different and be Me. I love to make music so I love to create an unique sound and delivery. Q: So there many female rappers in the Carolina's today yet you still reign supreme, so what about you and your music sets you apart from other female artist? A: I think what sets me apart is I stay consistent regardless and make sacrifices. Not to say the rest don’t but the Carolina’s female artist come and go because of different reasons. I just feel long as you moving and your product is quality and the people will talk for you. So i accept my position and remain humble!! Q: Is your lifestyle all work and no play or is doing what you do as easy as you make it seem.lol ? A: Lol my life is all Play cause the game is to played no matter how you look at it. If you work a 9 to 5 the object is to play your position until you get where you need to be, so I play the game and let the work speak! So hey don’t stress thing you can’t change, just make it look easy. Q: With you being the CEO of Bad Bad Ent. are there any other hot new acts on your label that you are grooming to take over? A: My belief being independent and the CEO you always have your eye out, but the key is building your Brand and Financial situation before you start signing new artist. Therefore, you can have all the tools you need to push them properly. Q: Election Day is dropping soon or already available, so besides that what’s the next project for Bad Bad Ent. ? A: Election Day dropped in Nov. basically keep pushing the mixtape, dropping videos, doing shows, and building up the next single to take off. Q: Ok with that being said your new project Election Day got its name how? A: Its Election Day came from the battle between Lele vs Bad Bad and it was around Election Time when it was coming out so the first song on the tape gives you the introduction. Q: Is Election Day a mixtape or album A: Election Day is a Mixtape. Q: So tell my readers how they can find you online; Social media, Website, music pages etc? A:You can google Lele Bad Bad. So a mixture of both would be beneficial to me to show I can do my own mixes as well as add flare to other pieces.2.So as the first lady of TakenOva Ent and with Stupid Money Studda as the president 8.So who is the executive producer on the mixtape and how did they contribute to the directionis it safe to assume that there is a romance there or is it strictly business….. fans you decided to go in on this mixtape?just want to know? My main producers of the mixtape would be my manager Stupid Money Studda as well as our teamWell, im sorry to put a halt on any juice that might be floating around, but it’s producer, SSOnTheDrums as well as his production team KODaNoble and DTOnTheBeat. These individuals dostrictly business. I came to TOE almost 2 years ago and I made it prominent to be have an impact on my mixtape because they have something I dont, mixtape experience. This will be my firstseen as an artist and to be taken seriously. I dont have any desire to turn this into release and I want the most help I can receive. I may not spot something that they will. They have the timea love and hip hop outcome, I want to be seen as a real artist. Anything beside experience I do not have. They have either released, contributed, or mix and mastered mixtapes and I wouldbusiness is a distraction and Monaee doesn’t get distracted from money or definitely consider their opinions for the release of my mixtape.business. 9.So the single, what’s it going to be and why did you pick that one?3.So who all does the TakenOva ENT roster consist of? To be honest, its between a song I did self entitled “Monaee” and this new track I’m working on calledTOETAG (TakenOva ENT’s tag name) is founded and created by Stupid Money “Country Beat”. Its hard to pick between these two songs because Monaee is a track I am very proud of, itsStudda, I am the First Lady and only female artist on the team, I also provide one of those songs when I performed it for the first time, people looked around the room like “Is shesecretariat support in place of the founder if he is out of town or on business. We serious? she didn’t write that, thats insane.” and of course I did (I write all of my own tracks) just the flowhave a beat maker, DTOnTheBeat (www.dtonthebeat.com) who works with the and the lyrics are me coming out of hiding, I am claiming my spot in this industry. Now Country Beat is a songproduction team called Beat Gods, accompanied by SSOnTheDrums i’m currently working on to where i describe an average day in the lives of country folks including myself. It(www.ssonthedrums.com) and KODaNoble. Beat Gods are a separate production has a old school beat and the flow is perfect it’s even family friendly I just love it. So I guess we will have toteam from TakenOva ENT, but we work closely together for production purposes. see which one becomes my single when Blank Slate is released.4.So back to you and your music so, what is it the overall message that you try to 10.So I spoke with my Music Editor Markus Tucker and he relayed to me that not only are you aconvey with your music and what topics do you mainly use when you write? artist but u also model so how is that going for you and what’s next for First Lady Monaee the model? Well, I wouldnt say I am a model, the shots I do are mainly for my music and really just for fun. I would love to do more modeling shots however, and as the completion of my mixtape is finalized I will have more shots to do and I will be working with photographers to complete my shots for the mixtape. The most recent shots I have done are by Tealau Belton and they are excellent shots, he even did my music video for song called Bad Girls ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX3vV4XnuI4 ) So I do plan on doing other modeling work, but to further my music career and increase my portfolio. When I sit down to write, the first thing that comes to mind is “What are some things people 11.Can I expect your single on the Carolina Magazine Mixtape hosted by DJ Brezzy Yums?don’t want to talk about?” Im serious because the things people go through, and I know theydo, can be the most relatable lyrics I can put together. I was writing a song at my job and one Of course, I love to support local SC Artist as well as SC Industries. Anything TakenOva ENT can do to assistverse talked about a father stepping in to take care of a child that the mother wasn’t there local hard working industries let us know.for, and I was practicing and my co worker heard it and said for me to repeat it, and when Idid, he instantly was emotional because you don’t hear that kind of subject anymore. I wantto write about the topics people shun from. The girl who cheated on her man because she 12.So, tell my readers how they can find you online; Social media, Website, music pages etc.didn’t feel loved. The passionate sex between two people who just met in the club. The manin the trap selling dope to get money for kids that aren’t even his. And don’t get me wrong, I Our music page is on facebook, Taken Ova ENT www.facebook.com/and toetag my music video is onrap about things like twerking in the club, making money and getting rep, but I don’t only do youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cX3vV4XnuI4, my IG is monaeeonthamike, and my soundcloudclub hits I want to do it all. I want people to hear monaee and simply relate to my words, not is https://soundcloud.com/monaee-marie-1 for feautres, collabs, apperances contact Stupid Money Studdacriticize or knock me before you herd me. Because on my mixtape, i guarantee you there can on his facebook (StupidMoney Studda) or by email [email protected] , I do club appreances when I havebe one song people might say “Oh she is a hoe for this one” and turn to the next song and say the time off and if schedualed ahead of time.“Oh my god, thats me!” and keep listening. That’s my goal for my music. Southern Plug Magazine CarolinaHipHopCultureMagazine.com Page 18
