City College offers a variety of career led higher education courses that can help you enter employment at a higher level or go on to achieve a degree within a year after successfully completing an HND. Why higher education at City College is a great choice for you.• It’s cheaper than going to university On average, studying an HNC or HND with us is 66% cheaper than studying for a degree at university. This is based on £9,000 per year at university and £3,000 per year at City College.• Career focused courses and modern facilities As a result of our recent £48m campus redevelopment you will have access to the very best industry standard equipment and real life working environments in the region. This means you will learn in a practical and dynamic way with equipment that reflects the workplace, so that you can move seamlessly into work.• Valued by employers HNC and HND qualifications are much valued by employers because they give the relevant industry knowledge needed for you to enter work at a higher level. This can also mean a higher salary.• Flexible learning We’ve made some of our courses flexible, so you can study full-time to get your qualification quickly or part-time, allowing you to work and learn at the same time.

The HNC can be delivered over one in Person-Centredor two years and stands alone from the HND. Once Counselling &completed you may continue to study and top up to Psychotherapyan HND at the college or honours degree at university. Now: NHS counsellorLevel 5 Higher National Sally JohnsonDiploma (HND) Studied: HND in PhotographyEquivalent to the second year of university Now: successfully runs herThe HND gives you a full level 5 vocational own photography businessqualification and a higher level of theoretical andpractical knowledge in your chosen sector, equivalentto the first two years of a degree course. Studyingfor an HND usually takes two years full time or threeyears part time. HND courses can lead directly toemployment or help you progress onto the final yearof a full time honours degree.Level 5 Foundation DegreeEquivalent to the second year of universityA foundation degree at college is a level 5 qualificationwhich combines a mixture of academic andvocational study related to the industry sector youare studying. They are designed and delivered inpartnership with universities and employers, andprovide the knowledge and skills required for theworkplace. Studying for a foundation degree usuallytakes two years full time or three years part time. Aftercompleting a foundation degree you will be able toprogress into employment or onto the final year of afull time honours degree.Level 6 Honours DegreeEquivalent to an honours degree at universityAn honours degree is awarded by a university and isa level 6 qualification. Studying for an honours degreeusually takes three years full time or four and a halfto five years part time. You can also top-up to anhonours degree from your HND which will take oneyear full time or one and a half years part time.
