Lilly Scholarship Committee Community Foundation of Grant County I am emailing to express my thanks and gratitude towards the entire Community Foundation Lilly Scholarship Committee, as well as the rest of the staff at the Community Foundation of Grant County. It is an honor to have been chosen as one of the recipients of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship. The Community Foundation does so much for the people of Grant County, an aspect for which I am incredibly grateful. Thank you again for this honor. With much gratitude, Micah Hoeksema54

Friends, Since it has been a couple of months since our Marion Summit on Community Safety and Well-being, we wanted to fill you in on some developments since then, and let you know what we are thinking about for the future.First, your feedback told us that one of the things you liked best about this Summit was thatit brought together people who don’t often have the chance to work together for the future of our city. We agree. We were reminded again of the power that comes from bringing people to the table and working together.Second, Dawn Brown has taken another step forward withthe “Thriving Families, Thriving Community: A Meeting ofthe Minds” initiative. She has sent you information about this work that promises to make a positive impact on our community well-being. Our hats are off the Dawn and all those advancing this vision. Third, Dr. David Moore followed up our meeting with some great community work throughhis organization, M-Powering Youth, Marion. Sixty-three Marion Students grades 5 though 8 partnered with teachers, staff, coaches, administrators, police, fire, and communitymembers for a Saturday neighborhood clean-up near McCulloch Junior High. This 1/2 day of Community Service was followed by a lunch that featured Community Mentor speakers including Mayor Alumbaugh, and then a basketball camp led by Coach James Blackman. This was an inspired idea from The Summit that has been acted on to impact lives and improve the well-being of our community. Thank you Dr. Moore! Fourth, we have been talking about convening meetings for smaller groups of people whohave a huge stake, and much to contribute, for our community’s safety and well-being. The next group we’d like to invite for an open discussion about our city’s needs are the pastors/spiritual leaders of our city. We believe that our city’s churches already make wonderful contributions to the well-being of our city. We wonder what might be done if wecould begin to coordinate and pool those efforts toward a common set of goals. Accordingly, we are in the early stages planning a Pastors’ Café that will provide learning, brainstorming, and share commitment to help our city.Fifth, we’ve identified other groups that we believe could benefit by talking together about how to contribute to our city’s wellbeing. These include educators, non-profit leaders, and business leaders. If you have ideas about how to engage these groups in focused conversations please share them with us. Sixth, we are thinking about holding another Summit in February next year to reviewprogress and gather further input about the ideas and projects that are going forward this year.Thank you for your interest in the safety and well-being of our community. Chancellor Alex Huskey Superintendent Brad Lindsay President David WrightSenior Counsel Karen Roorbach 55

All, We are looking forward to a press release coming out in reference to the Donation Drop Box ordinance. But I wanted to let each of you know how much others and myself appreciated the swiftness of the passing of the Donation Drop Box ordinance. A thank you also goes out to the Ordinance Committee for their hard work on crafting the ordinance. Also, a very special thank you to Dawn Brown & Sherri Rush from the Community Foundation for bringing the situation to our attention. We have had great success in the removal of all reported and/or sighted donation drop boxes from the City of Marion limits. Some of the donation drop boxes were removed before the ordinance was evenpassed. The rest were removed at the expense of the donation drop box owners after passage of the ordinance. This would not have been possible without all of us working together as a team. Again thank you.. Kenneth A Hussong 57

Thanks Ken for your aggressive work to rid our city of these unsightly boxes and I do think it will pay off for our local charities and non-profits who benefit from the donation and the outreach to our community. Thank you Dawn for bringing this to our attention and for all of your work in helping our committee. Great effort by all. -Dave Homer I want to add my voice to others expressing theirappreciation to Dawn Brown for bringing this matter to our attention and to Ken Hussong for seeing that the boxesdisappeared. The role of the city council, while necessary, was really a no-brainer. ALAN MILLER MARION CITY COUNCIL WARD 2 58

We're grateful for all your work and the \"Giving Back to Our Community\" piece in the Chronicle-Tribune. Thank you! Keith Newman Indiana Wesleyan University 78

Thanks much Dawn we hope to hear back. One more quick note... I forgot to mention earlier. Myteam has read/reviewed literally thousands of AnnualReports, Community Health Needs Assessments,Community Health Strategic Plans, etc. I really want togo out of my way to stress that your \"Cookbook\" styleAnnual Report was our favorite read of any documentwe've reviewed in the past few years. Simplyoutstanding and brilliant. Both original/creative andhad serious content with depth and weight. We lookedback and your other concepts were equally awesome.Anyhow, we're looking for passionate teams that alsohave an edge and could be fun to engage with, andthat was sort of a key driver for why reached out. If youwork with any third party design or creative teams todevelop those please do let me know who they are. We'd be interested in working with them on someprojects we are working on.Anyhow, please keep up the great work and reachback out to us if you'd like to connect. All best,Ken MarshallCimpatico 79

We actually discussed this for a fewminutes just speculating... \"do theydo this themselves or do they havesome local creative agency thatthey've got a sweet deal with... and ifso, we should probably find out whothat is.\" Well kudos to your teamthat's so cool.Maybe your team should open up acreative studio and sell projects tonational mega foundations! ;)Ken 80

Dawn – I realized earlier today that I had a draft of a message back to you that was never sent…please forgive me! I want to thank you for taking the time to send me the IBJ article andthoughtful message about Brandon. It is one of the most sincere and special messages I have ever received, and it nearly brought me to tears. Not a day goes by that I don’t remember my best friend and the sacrifices he made. Anything we can do to keep his memory alive and reflect on his true love ofpeople and the City of Marion is certainly well worth it. I sincerely appreciate our partnership with you and the Community Foundation. Your communication, inspiration and hard work are truly a blessing. Thanks again, Dawn. Sincerely, Kristin 81

Good morning, Dawn...thank you for responding to my email about Ginny Martin. She and her husband, Hank (Henry), were truly assets to Marion while they lived here. I so appreciate your kind words, their retirement address, and Ginny's obituary that you sent. I will return home in April and plan to attend the memorial for Ginny at Matter Park in June. Keep up thevery informative news letter that you do. I enjoy reading it! I truly believe in the work the foundation does and when I'm home if you ever need a volunteer to \"copy...staple...paste\" just email me or give me a call... Judy Cook 85

Hi Dawn, I just love looking at the CommunityFoundation website.  I appreciate your team’s innovation and cheerfulnessthat shows up in the little details.  It communicates, “we love what we do.”  Congratulations! Thank you so much, Dawn, for all you do for Grant County and for students at Taylor and IWU.  I know that youhelped a Taylor Social Work professorwith a proposal writing project for his class in the fall.I am seeing the results of my students’learning; a few have told me that they have helped organizations with theirproposal writing needs. It is thrilling to see young people take information offered to them and use it to make a difference.  It is motivating and encouraging. Thanks for considering my request tocome and speak into the lives of our students.Adjunct Lisa Ritchie and Professor, Philanthropy Grant Writing 95

Dearest Dawn We can't thank YOU enough for the extraordinary efforts & yummy lasagna & salad meal(s) you delivered to us here at CO on Sat evening. You thought of simply everything, including ice tea, homemade cookies & elegant table ware. It was so delightful to have a home cooked meal and eat at 6 pm, instead of 9 or 10 pm. We are so very grateful for your thoughtfulness to us -- and even more so for your care & compassion you've shown Ned in his hour of need -- with your frequent visits and help in getting him help. Thank YOU - and God Bless You & your entire terrific team at the Community Foundation. Katie & I will likely stop by your office Tues or Weds am to drop off your dishes etc & tour your office. Best & Blessings, Maureen Gillum96
