The Orientation Course commenced on Thursday 8 July with a lecture on Microbiology followed by a live Q&A session. There are 108 candidates from all over Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore who have registered for the program which will run for 6 weeks. WOULD YOU LIKE TO BE PART OF YOUR LOCAL REGIONAL COMMITTEE? A call for nominations to be part of your local Regional Committee will commence in September 2021. Regional Committees provide a local point of contact for members. Committee members assist candidates in preparation of their examinations, and in arranging both social and educational events. Each committee has a number of positions including a Chair, Secretary and Candidate Advisors. It can be a rewarding experience to be part of a committee that is well-supported by the College office. I would encourage anyone with an interest in what happens in their respective regions to consider standing for election to their Regional Committee. The College is pleased to advise that due to the remarkable achievements and notable calibre of applicants, the convenors have awarded an additional scholarship to a post-graduate candidate. The KDT project was sparked following community requests to address areas of unmet dental need among remote Aboriginal communities in the Kimberley. Over the last decade, the team has expanded to include over 150 multidisciplinary volunteers from across Australia, many of whom have volunteered numerous times. KDT provides services to 18 remote communities across the Kimberley and distributes over 30,000 toothbrushes a year as part of its Strong Teeth for Kimberley Kids toothbrushing program. The team is inspired by the motto Strong Teeth, Strong Body, Strong Mind aiming to improve not only the dental health but general health and wellbeing of Aboriginal children and their families through multi-sector collaboration.
