Call to Worship One: And this is how we know what love is…. All: God so loved the world that he gave his only son for us. One: God gave his son to teach us – All: How to live and how to love. One: God gave his son to reach us – All: When we were sinking deep in sin. When we were thinking our ways were better than God’s ways. One: On this Third Sunday of Lent, we receive the love of Christ that still reaches us and teaches us. All: Lord, give us clean hearts – so that we may follow Thee more faithfully. Bless our worship and our walk to be pleasing in Your sight. Amen.

The Spoken Word “I know What Prayer Can Do” John 2:13-19 Pastor Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Psalm 19:7-9 – The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. John 2:14-15 – In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves and others sitting at tables exchanging money. So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables.” John 2:16 – To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a market!”.

Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Matthew 21:13 – “It is written,” Jesus said to them, “My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a den of robbers.” Jeremiah 7:9-11 – Will you steal and murder, commit adultery and perjury, burn incense to Baal and follow other gods you have not known, and then come and stand before me in this house, which bears my Name, and say, “We are safe” – safe to do all these detestable things? Has this house, which bears my Name, become a den of robbers to you? But I have been watching! declares the Lord. Key Questions: 1.If Jesus showed up in the temple, what would he find you doing? 2.What angers you about church life? How do you help keep the church in order? 3.Do you have “zeal” for the house of the Lord? How can God tell? 4.How will you commit to making God’s house a House of Prayer? ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________
