Call to Worship One: The seasons are changing, but our God is not. All: Great is God’s faithfulness! One: The seasons are changing, but our God is not. All: God’s love lasts forever – throughout all generations! One: The seasons are changing, but our God is not. All: If it had not been for the Lord who was on our side – where would we be? One: The seasons are changing, but our calling remains the same. All: To be disciples who make disciples. To receive God’s love and share God’s love. May it be so! Amen.

The Spoken Word “Giving Thanks for What Is and What Ain’t” Psalm 124:1-8 Pastor Eleanor Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Psalm 124:1-5 (NIV) - If the Lord had not been on our side - let Israel say - if the Lord had not been on our side when people attacked us, they would have swallowed us alive when their anger flared against us; the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, the raging waters would have swept us away. Isaiah 41:10 (NIV) - So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Psalm 121:2 (NIV) - My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. Psalm 54:4 (NIV) - Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who sustains me.

Sermon Notes Key Questions: 1. What is the evidence that God has been on your side? Share your testimony with someone this week as a sign of gratitude. 2. The Psalmist celebrates the way God rescued him from the traps of enemies (v.6-8). What has God rescued you from? Unprofitable thoughts, behaviors, relationships….? 3. Are there any traps from which you still need to be freed? 4. Some say that rejection may be God’s protection. Can you think of a time when that was true for you? As we give thanks for what is and what ain’t – can you give thanks for the things God has not allowed? ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________
