Call to Worship One: And this is how we know what love is…. All: God so loved the world that he gave his only son for us. One: Can you hear God calling you closer — on this Lenten journey of love? All: In our worship, we return to you Lord. In our prayer, we return to you Lord. In our fasting, we return to you Lord. One: Our God who never leaves us, invites us to seek his presence – in the middle of our problems. All: Help us to seek you, Lord. In this season, may the song of our heart be: give me you – everything else can wait. One: On this fourth Sunday of Lent, we seek your forgiveness for all the ways we’ve failed you. All: Change us O, God. Create in us clean hearts and renew our spirits. Amen.
The Spoken Word “Come On Home” Luke 15:1-2, 11-32 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures: Luke 15:1-2 – Now all the tax collectors and sinners were coming near to listen to him. And the Pharisees and Scribes were grumbling and saying, “This fellow welcomes sinners and eats with them.” Luke 15:11-13 – Then Jesus said, “There was a man who had two sons. The younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of the property that will belong to me.’ So, he divided his property between them. A few days later, the younger son gathered all he had and traveled to a distant country, and there he squandered his wealth in wild living.” Luke 15:17-18 — But when he came to himself, he said, “How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Luke 15:24 — ‘For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.
Psalm 103:10-12 — He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Key Questions: 1.Have you ever squandered The Father’s blessings? Or, wasted the wealth of your gifts? 2.Where would you most likely be seated at the start of Luke 15? Are you a sinner, who accepts Christ’s gracious invitation? Or, do you sit in the seat of scoffers (Psalm 1) — judging those whom Jesus embraces? 3. What are you waiting for to come home? What will it take for you to “come to yourself” (verse 17) and live/serve as God would have you to live/serve? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
