Call to Worship One: This is the day the Lord has made! All: We will rejoice! We are glad! One: This is the day the Lord has made — a perfect day to preach the Gospel and to live the Gospel! All: Lord, we are striving for perfection! Lord, we are pressing toward the mark of the high calling! One: And what is our calling? All: To love the Lord with all our heart, all our mind, all our soul and all our strength! One: Is that all? All: No! We are called to love our neighbors as we love ourselves! One: Children of God — let’s get to work! All: With our worship and service, in our giving and living, we praise God and press on for perfection! Amen and Amen!

The Spoken Word “Press On! (Until You See the Lord)” Philippians 3:12-14 and Matthew 25:31-46 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Philippians 3:12 — Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Philippians 3:13-14 — Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. Galatians 6:9-10 — Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers.

Matthew 25:34-36 — Then the King will say to those on his right, “Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:37-40 — Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when did we see you … ” The King will reply, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Key Questions: 1. Are you a satisfied servant or are you pressing on to fulfill God’s call on your life? 2.What do you believe Christian perfection means? John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, taught that we are called to be “perfect in love of God and neighbor.” How is that different from never making a mistake? 3.In the Gospel lesson, both sets of people asked “when did we see you Lord?” Do you see Christ present among those in our community who need help, encouragement, support? How should we be serving Christ in BryanCollege Station? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
