Call to Worship/Advent Reading One Voice: We light one candle for love. Because the world is broken and the wait is long, but love never ends. Love faithfully goes about the work of casting out fear speaking truth healing the deepest wounds crossing the divide from this world to the next and back again. “Here I am,” love whispers,“the servant of the Lord.” So we light one candle, because it only takes one: Christ with us. All Voices: We have love, because we have Christ. Amen.

The Spoken Word “The Set Time” Galatians 4:4-7 and Luke 2:22-40 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Galatians 4:4-5 – But when the set time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, that we might receive adoption to sonship. Galatians 4:6-7 – Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir. Psalm 90:4 – A thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.

Sermon Notes Key Scriptures: 2 Peter 3:8 – But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. Romans 8:18 – I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. Key Questions: 1. Anna and Simeon waited their entire lives to see the Christ child. Is there a promise of God you are still holding onto – waiting for it to come true? What can you do to stay focused on the Divine Promise instead of the delay? 2. Do you have a hard time waiting for the fullness of God’stime to come? Do you rush the “set time?” 3. 2020 included plenty “present suffering,” what do you imagine the future glory of 2021 will include? 4. In the long run, what do you believe our inheritance as heirs of God will be? ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________
