Call to Worship One: Christ the Lord is Risen! All: The Lord is risen indeed! One: The Risen Lord is at work in us and in the world. All: Calling us to be disciples. Calling us to make disciples. One: The Good News is that Christ laid down his life for us. All: Lord, we hear you calling us to do the same. May this worship equip and empower us to live and love like you. One: The Good News is, with Christ, there is forgiveness of sins and fullness of life; and, not only that, there is the gift and guidance of the Holy Spirit. All: Lord, we receive your gift! Bless us to be blessings, bless us to do your will, your way. Amen!

The Spoken Word “Good Trouble” 1 John 3:16-18 and Acts 4 Pastor Eleanor Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Acts 4:2-4 – They were greatly disturbed because the apostles were teaching the people, proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection of the dead. They seized Peter and John and, because it was evening, they put them in jail until the next day. But many who heard the message believed; so the number of men who believed grew to about five thousand. Acts 4:9-11 – If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. Jesus is “the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.” 1 John 3:17-18 – If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth.

Acts 4:16-20 – Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it … But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name ... Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied … As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Key Questions: 1.What good trouble are you getting into in the name of Jesus? 2.What are you prepared to put on the line in order to change the world? 3. While on trial, Peter and John declared “we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Are you a silent witness or do you tell people what you’ve seen God do? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
