Call to Worship One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us! All: Bless us to worship God and God alone. One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us! Melt us, mold us, fill us, use us. All: Bless us to serve God and God alone. One: Lord, order our steps, so that we pursue the paths you have for us. All: Lord, order our steps, so that Your destiny — Your plans for good, for our hope and future — are manifest in our lives. One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us! All: May the Spirit’s fire cleanse us. May the Spirit’s wind move us. To God be the glory! Amen.

The Spoken Word “Manifest Destiny” Philippians 1:3-11 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Philippians 1:3-6 — I thank my God every time I remember you, constantly praying with joy in every one of my prayers for all of you, because of your sharing in the gospel from the first day until now. I am confident of this, that the one who began a good work among you will bring it to completion by the day of Jesus Christ. Psalm 48:8, 14 — As we have heard, so we have seen in the city of the Lord Almighty, in the city of our God: God makes her secure forever. Within your temple, O God, we meditate on your unfailing love ... For this God is our God for ever and ever; he will be our guide even to the end. Haggai 2:9 — ‘The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house,’ says the Lord Almighty. ‘And in this place I will grant peace,’ declares the Lord Almighty.”

1 Chronicles 4:9-10 — Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, “I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, “Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.” And God granted his request. Key Questions: 1. If God shows you a “troublemaker,” do you see it as: an opportunity to “rough them up” or chastise them? Or, as a time to show an example of God’s love? 2.What is an answer to God’s call that brings the reward that comes by grace and gets us justified and God glorified? 3.What if law enforcement is meant to show examples of THE law by fulfilling the greatest commandment? 4.What if the police pulled you over and said: “I’m here to show an example of THE law [God’s love]” … not “I’m here to ticket you for running that light? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
