Call to Worship One: Christ the Lord is Risen! All: The Lord is risen indeed! One: The Risen Lord is at work in us and in the world. All: Calling us to be disciples. Calling us to make disciples. One: The Good News is Christ lived, died and rose again for us. All: Today, we celebrate the Savior’s Ascension. We give thanks that even now – Christ is seated at the right hand of God. One: The Good News is, though Christ is in heaven, his power is alive in us. All: Help us Holy Ghost! May the power of Christ at work in us, put us to work for God’s sake and God’s glory. Amen and Amen.

The Spoken Word “What Have You Heard?” Acts 1:1-11 Rev. Romonica Malone-Wardley Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Acts 1:3-5 – After his suffering he presented himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While staying with them, he ordered them not to leave Jerusalem, but to wait there for the promise of the Father. “This,” he said, “is what you have heard from me; for John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” Acts 1:8 – But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth. Acts 1:10 – While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven?

Ephesians 1:17-19 – I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation as you come to know him, so that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power for us who believe, according to the working of his great power. Key Questions: 1.When was the last time you felt close to Jesus – felt he was staying close to reveal something to you? What were you doing at that time that made his presence known? (Acts 1:3- 4) 2.When you come together in community (how do you come together) and for what purpose do you gather? Is it to seek guidance from the Lord? What happens if the Lord says NO or NOT YET? (Acts 1:6-7) 3.What have you been (inactively) gazing at too long? What is keeping you from -- moving forward, making that tough decision, allowing the Lord to heal that wound, forgiving that person who wronged you, stepping out in faith to follow where Jesus is leading? (Acts 10-11; Eph.1:17-19) 4.What is the source of your joy and Holy power? (Eph. 1:19; Luke 24: 51-52)
