Pentecost Sunday Order of Service Praise & Worship Call to Worship One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us. All: On this Day of Pentecost, let the power of the Holy Ghost blow free in this place! One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us. Melt us, mold us, fill us, use us. All: Melt the chains limiting our spiritual imagination; mold our hearts and minds, so that they may be used by you. One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us. All: May the Spirit’s fire cleanse us. May the Spirit’s wind mobi- lize us. One: On this Pentecost Sunday, as we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit – All: We worship and praise the God who – by the power of the Spirit – empowers us to be the church. To God be the glory! Praise & Worship First Report Prayer

Offertory Prayer Living God, you are the Lord of all! Thank you for sending your Spirit to bring us new life. We are grateful that you are continually at work in our lives and the world to fulfill your promises. Let your Holy Spirit revive our spirit of giving. May our giving today show our trust in You, and our desire to join You at work in the world. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen. The Spoken Word “Pentecost As Protest” Acts 2:1-21 Rev. Eleanor Colvin The Invitation to Christian Discipleship “Go forth empowered by Christ’s light to serve like Christ.”

Sermon Notes Key Scriptures: Acts 2:1-2 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. (NIV) Acts 2:3-4 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. (NIV) Acts 2:17-18 In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. (NIV)

Sermon Notes Key Questions The long-awaited gift of the Holy Spirit is here, and verses 3-4 tell us everyone received the gift. How are you using your spiritual gifts? How do the violent winds of Pentecost (v.2) help us to understand the violent winds of injustice blowing through our nation? Which is more powerful? What vision/dream for kingdom building has God given you? What prophecy/ word for the people?
