Celebrating Baptism January 20, 2022 First United Methodist Church 1125 Wellborn Road, College Station, TX 77840 Rev. Eleanor Colvin, Pastor (979) 690-8415 Website: 1stCollegeStation.org

Call to Worship One: Beloved -- come let us worship the Lord! All: God loves us and that's a good reason to praise! One: Beloved -- come let us worship our good and gracious God. All: God loves us and is generous toward us — offering us new life and hope in all seasons. That's a good reason to praise! One: One way God blesses — is by sending us into the world to be blessings. All: Today, is a great day to answer God’s call! Because truly, the Spirit of the Lord is upon us. Hallelujah! Amen!

The Spoken Word “Go On — Answer It!” Luke 4:14-21 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Luke 4:18 – “The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” Luke 4:21 – He began by saying to them, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.” 1 Corinthians 12:26-27 – If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. 1 Peter 4:10 – Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. For with you is the fountain of life, in your light, we see light. Proverbs 31:8-9 – Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Key Questions: 1. Do you have a broad understanding of what calling can be? Yes, some are called to preach, while all are called to serve and teach. We can be called to be parents and called to certain occupations. What is God’s calling (or what are God’s callings) on your life? 2.Callings can evolve over time. Do you feel the Spirit leading you into a new area of service? 3.In the Gospel lesson, calling starts with the Spirit and God’s anointing. As you answer your call, are the prerequisites in place? Is the Spirit of God at work, or are you hoping God will bless whatever you decide to do? 4.Are you answering your call or is God getting sent to voice mail (flesh mail)? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
