Call to Worship One: Christ the Lord is Risen! All: The Lord is risen indeed! One: The Risen Lord is at work in us and in the world. All: Calling us to be disciples. Calling us to make disciples. One: The Good News is Christ loved us as God loved him. All: Lord, we hear you calling us to remain in your love. One: The Good News is, all the commandments are anchored in love. All: Lord, teach us to love. Amen and Amen.

The Spoken Word “Love is the Key” John 15:9-17 Pastor Eleanor Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   John 15:9-10 – As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. John 15:12 – My command is this: Love each other as I have loved You. John 15:13-14 – Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I Command. John 15:16 – You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 1 John 5:2-3 – This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. In fact, this is love for God: to keep his commands. And his commands are not burdensome…

Acts 4:16-20 – Everyone living in Jerusalem knows they have performed a notable sign, and we cannot deny it … But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name ... Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. But Peter and John replied … As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.” Key Questions: 1.John 5 tells us that God’s commandments are not burdensome. Do you ever find it hard to love? Particular people? Through certain situations? 2.Does viewing love as a commandment rather than an option or choice help you? 3. If “love is the key” … what is God inviting you to unlock for yourself or others? Peace, justice, opportunity, more love….? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
