This is How We Know What Love Is... February 20, 2022 First United Methodist Church 1125 Wellborn Road, College Station, TX 77840 Rev. Eleanor Colvin, Pastor (979) 690-8415 Website: 1stCollegeStation.org

Call to Worship One: Beloved -- come let us worship the Lord! All: God loves us and that's a good reason to praise! One: And this is how we know what love is …. God sent his one and only son into the world, so that we might live through him. All: Living through Christ, means loving like Christ. One: The truth is: although love is the key — love is not always easy. All: Today, is a great day to answer the call of God — to answer the call of love. Today, we commit to love friends and so-called enemies. Because God first loved us — we, too, can love. May it be so! Amen!

The Spoken Word “Love Is the Key!” Luke 6:27-38 Mr. Vernon Moore Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   1 Corinthians 16:14 – Do everything in love. Colossians 3:14 — And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity. 1 John 4:16 – And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. Proverbs 10:2 — Hatred stirs up conflict, but love covers over all wrongs. Romans 12:20-21 — On the contrary: “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink. In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. 1 Peter 3:9 — Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing. John 13:34-35 — “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Key Questions: 1.What is the biggest hurdle/obstacle that could potentially prevent you from loving an enemy? 2.How does God speak to you in the presence of an enemy? 3. How does the reminder of God’s grace and mercy toward you empower you to display the same grace and mercy toward others? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
