Call to Worship One: This is the day the Lord has made! All: We will rejoice! We are glad! One: This is the day the Lord has made – a perfect day for miracles! All: It is a miracle that Christ calls us and trusts us to be the foundation upon which the church is built. One: This is the day the Lord has made – a day not so different from the day Christ asked the disciples to take up their cross and follow him. All: We come to worship today – desiring to be faithful to the call of Christ – even when it calls us to sacrifice. As crosscarrying disciples, we commit our time, talent, gifts, service and witness to the building of the kingdom. May it be so! Amen. Praise & Worship First Report Prayer

The Spoken Word \"At the Cross, At the Cross\" Matthew 16:21-26 Pastor Eleanor Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Matthew 16:23 (NIV) - Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.” Matthew 16:24 (NIV) - Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” Matthew 16:25-26 (NIV) - “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it. What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?” John 13:35 (NIV) - “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”

Sermon Notes Key Questions: 1. In a matter of verses, Peter goes from being the rock the church is built on to being a “stumbling block” for Jesus. When have your actions (or inaction) been more stumbling block than rock? 2. Crosses are heavy. How do you build your (physical, mental and spiritual) strength to carry yours? 3. What does discipleship look like during pandemic times? ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________
