Call to Worship One: Christ the Lord is Risen! All: The Lord is risen indeed! One: For God so loved the world, that God gave his son to teach us – how to live and how to love. All: And no greater love is there, than to lay down one’s life for a friend. One: What a friend we have in Jesus! All: What a friend we have in Jesus! All our sins and griefs to bear. One: On this Resurrection Sunday, we celebrate the Risen Savior! All: Thank you Lord for forgiveness of sins and fullness of life. Thank you Lord for a love that saves. Hallelujah and Amen!
The Spoken Word “What Do You Have to Say About the Third Day?” Matthew 28:1-10 and Acts 10:34-43 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures: Matthew 28:1-2 – After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. Matthew 28:5-6 – The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay. Matthew 28:8 – So the women hurried away from the tomb, afraid yet filled with joy, and ran to tell his disciples. Acts 10:39-40 – We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a cross, but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen. Acts 10:43 – All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.
Key Questions: 1. A lot can happen in a week! Last Sunday, the crowds were asking Christ to save them, and before the week was over, those cries changed to crucify him. Are we dependable disciples or a wavering witnesses? 2. If Christ sent you, as he sent Mary, to go and tell the world that you had seen him – what would you say about the third day? How have you seen the Resurrected Christ at work in your life? 3. The angels of God were actively working in this Resurrection account. What are God’s angels doing for you and saying to you today? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
