Call to Worship One: Sing! Sing unto the Lord! All: Let’s make a joyful noise unto the Lord! Let’s worship God with gladness. One: We were made to worship! All: So, we come into God’s house with singing! One: We sing of your wisdom and grace. We sing of your power and might. All: You are the Messiah and our hope is in You! You are worthy to be praised! One: From the rising of the sun, until the going down of the same… All: We declare your praise — in word and deed, in Spirit and Truth. Let everything that has breath, praise the Lord!
The Spoken Word “Witness Protection” Mark 8:27-38 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures: Mark 8:27 – Jesus and his disciples went on to the villages around Caesarea Philippi. On the way he asked them, “Who do people say I am?” Mark 8:28-29 – They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Peter answered, “You are the Messiah.” Mark 8:34-37 – When he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me. For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me and for the gospel will save it. What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul?
Key Questions: 1. Who do you say Jesus is? Who have you told about him lately? 2.Crosses are heavy and burdensome. What does it mean for you to take up your cross (daily)? What are the difficult parts about being a disciple? 3.What does it mean for you to follow Jesus (daily)? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
