This is How We Know What Love Is... February 27, 2022 First United Methodist Church 1125 Wellborn Road, College Station, TX 77840 Rev. Eleanor Colvin, Pastor (979) 690-8415 Website: 1stCollegeStation.org

Call to Worship One: Beloved -- come let us worship the Lord! All: God loves us and that's a good reason to praise! One: And this is how we know what love is …. God sent his one and only son into the world, so that we might live through him. All: Living through Christ, means loving like Christ. One: The truth is: although love is the key — love is not always easy. All: Today, is a great day to answer the call of God — to answer the call of love. Today, we commit to stay in love with God and neighbor. May it be so! Amen!

The Spoken Word “Stay in Love” John 15:9-17 Mr. Vernon Moore Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   John 15:9-10 – As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. John 15:12-13 — My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s Friends. John 15:16-17 – You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other. John 13:34-35 — “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” 1 Corinthians 16:14 – Do everything in love.

Key Questions: 1.Jesus says remaining in his love empowers us to love others well. Can you see the connection in your life? When you’re devoted to your discipleship — worship, prayer, service, and giving — are things better with those you’re called to love? When you slip in terms of discipleship, how does that impact your capacity to love? 2.What do you do to ensure your family members or friends know you love them? How do you speak? What actions do you take? What actions do you avoid? 3. In the midst of this love chapter, Jesus speaks of our calling and fruitfulness. What do you believe the fruit of love is? How do you hear God calling you to love? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
