This is How We Know What Love Is... February 6, 2022 First United Methodist Church 1125 Wellborn Road, College Station, TX 77840 Rev. Eleanor Colvin, Pastor (979) 690-8415 Website: 1stCollegeStation.org

Call to Worship One: Beloved -- come let us worship the Lord! All: God loves us and that's a good reason to praise! One: And this is how we know what love is …. God sent his one and only son into the world, so that we might live through him. All: Living through Christ, means loving like Christ. One: One way God shows love, is by sending us into the world to love others as God first love us. All: Today, is a great day to answer the call of God — to answer the call of love. Today, we commit our selves and our service to our God. Hallelujah! Amen!

The Spoken Word “When Love Calls … Say Yes” Luke 5:1-11 and Isaiah 6:1-8 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   Isaiah 6:8 – Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” Luke 5:4 – When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch.” Luke 5:5-6 – Simon answered, “Master, we’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the Nets.” When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break. Luke 5:10-11 – Then Jesus said to Simon, “Don’t be afraid; from now on you will fish for people.” So they pulled their boats up on shore, left everything and followed him. 1 Samuel 15:22 — But Samuel replied: Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

Key Questions: 1.God so loves the world that God calls us to love others in word and deed. What do you say/do when you get the call? 2.Isaiah felt too guilty to serve. The fisherman were ashamed that they had doubted. What, if anything, from your past or present do you think disqualifies you from fulfilling your calling? What have you overcome to answer your call? 3. Isaiah responded to God: “Here I am, send me.” The disciples cast their nets in deeper water, in response to Christ. Obedience is the only way to answer the call of love. Is obedience your first (and only) response to God’s call? Love’s call? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
