June 5, 2022 First United Methodist Church 1125 Wellborn Road, College Station, TX 77840 Rev. Eleanor Colvin, Pastor (979) 690-8415 Website: 1stCollegeStation.org

Call to Worship One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us! All: On this Day of Pentecost, let the power of the Holy Ghost blow free in this place! One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us! Melt us, mold us, fill us, use us. All: Melt the chains limiting our spiritual imagination; mold our hearts and minds, so that they may be used by you. One: Spirit of the Living God, fall afresh on us! All: May the Spirit’s fire cleanse us. May the Spirit’s wind move us. One: On this Pentecost Sunday, as we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit – All: We worship and praise God, who — by the power of the Spirit – empowers us to be the church. To God be the glory!

The Spoken Word “Fresh Fire — Fresh Fruit” Acts 2 and 1 Corinthians 12:4-7 Rev. Eleanor L. Colvin Sermon Notes Key Scriptures:   1 Corinthians 12:4-7 — There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them. There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord. There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work. Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. John 14:26 – But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. John 16:13 – But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. Acts 2:4 -- All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:17-18 – In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

Key Questions: 1. Have you come into worship with a spirit of expectancy? What do you expect the Holy Spirit to do for you, in you, and through you? 2.Pentecost marks the birth of the church — as the disciples were willing to trust the teaching and guidance of the Spirit. Are you flexible enough to go with the Spirit’s flow? 3.What characteristic of the Holy Spirit do you need most in this season? The Advocate, the Comforter, the Teacher, the Guide…? _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________ _________________________________________________
