Order of Service Praise & Worship Call to Worship One: This is the day the Lord has made! All: We will rejoice! We are glad! One: This is the day the Lord has made – a perfect day for miracles! All: It is a miracle that Christ calls us and trusts us to be the foundation upon which the church is built. One: This is the day the Lord has made – a day not so differ- ent from the day Christ asked the disciples “who do people say I am” and “who do you say I am”? All: We come to worship today – desiring to know Christ and to name Christ in our witness to the world. As rock- solid-servants, we commit our time, talent, gifts, service and witness to the building of the kingdom. May it be so! Amen. Praise & Worship First Report Prayer
Offertory Prayer Living God, you are the Lord of all! Thank you for sending your Spirit to bring us new life. We are grateful that you are continually at work in our lives and the world to fulfill your promises. Let your Holy Spirit revive our spirit of giving. May our giving today show our trust in You, and our desire to join You at work in the world. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen. The Spoken Word “Rock Solid Servants” Matthew 16:13-20 Pastor Eleanor Colvin The Invitation to Christian Discipleship “Go forth empowered by Christ’s light to serve like Christ.”
Sermon Notes Key Scriptures: Matthew 16:15-16 (NIV) - “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Matthew 16:17-18 (NIV) - Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Pe- ter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.” Matthew 16:19 (NIV) - “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” Matthew 7:24-25 (NIV) “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.
Sermon Notes Key Questions: 1. Are we rock solid servants who add to the strength of the church? 2. Who do you say Christ is? Who are you helping to get to know Christ for themselves? 3. We are the rocks upon which Christ builds the church. Are we wise builders like those Jesus mentioned in Matthew 7? Have we built our own spiritual house on rock or on sand?
