Biography of The Missile Man of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on October 15, 1931. He was born into a Middle class Tamil family in an island town of the city Called Rameswaram in the erstwhile Madras State. Childhood photo of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam

In his Childhood, he used to live in his Ancestral house, which was build in the late nineteenth century, on the Mosque street of Rameswaram. He was provided with all necessities in his childhood. According to him, his childhood was a very Secure one, both materially and Emotionally. House in which Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam used to live in his childhood.

He did his schooling from the Ramanathapuram Schwartz Matriculation School, and Saint Joseph’s College, Tiruchirappalli. In 1954, he completed his graduation in physics from the University of Madras and studied aerospace engineering at Madras Institute of Technology. In his early childhood, he used to collect newspapers thrown out of the Dhanush Kodi Mail train and become the first one to distribute them to the town of Rameswaram. Institute in which Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Studied aerospace engineering.

After graduating from Madras Institute of Technology in 1960, He joined the Aeronautical Development Establishment of the Defence Research and Development Organization as a scientist after becoming member of the Defence Research and Development Service (DRDO). He started his career by designing a small hovercraft. But he was unconvinced by his choice of Job at DRDO. Hovercraft made by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.

In 1969, He was transferred to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) where he was the project director of India’s first Satellite Launch Vehicle (SLV-3) which successfully deployed Rohini satellite in near-earth orbit in July 1980. He also played a major part in developing many missiles under a mission named IGMDP including Agni, an intermediate range ballistic missile and Prithvi, the tactical surface-to-surface missile. He also served as the Chief Scientific Advisor to the Prime Minister and Secretary of the DRDO from July 1992 To December 1999. The Pokhran-2 Nuclear tests were conducted during this Period in which he played an intensive Political and technological role. Due to his Important contribution to India’s space and aeronautical sector, he is also called as the Missile Man of India.

He also served as the President of India. His term lasted from 25 July 2002 to 25 July 2007. He was also known as People’s President. Because of his contribution in India’s space and aeronautical field and for For his impressive work as the President of India, he has been awarded by some of the Major Indian awards like Padma Bhushan (1981), Padma Vibhushan (1990) and Bharat Ratna (1997).

In an interview, a child asked to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, “What is the key to success”. He answered, firstly we should have a Great aim, then we should continuously Acquire knowledge, we should work hard, And the most importantly, we should have perseverance.
