It is a unique opportunity to work within the store, viewing the business and preparation of products through an entirely different lens. The Turosi team, consisting of Michael McRoberts (Production Supervisor Deboning, Geelong), Amanda Neill (Product Development, Broadmeadows) and Robyn Moller (QA Officer, Broadmeadows) were recently invited into KFC Newcomb for the day. They enjoyed working at each station and gained a real understanding of the impact suppliers can have on the daily operations. The opportunity to experience the process first hand provides a greater level of insight into the requirements of the customer. The day brought fresh ideas and encouragement that funnels its way all through to our production team, New Product Development and beyond. Everyone who takes part in a Pulse Day talks about it for months afterwards, and encourages others to take part. As always, a great day was had by all. A huge thank you Goran, Christie and Nick for taking such good care of our team and for ensuring they got the most out of the day. Lee Ryan National QSR/FCD Sales Manager

| | 38 OUR PEOPLE Allan ‘Lance’ Johnston 5th September, 1946 – 5th July, 2019 On July 15th, Vicky Josevski (Customer Service Manager, Thomastown) and I attended a special service to commemorate the life of Lance Johnston. Here, we had the privilege of learning more about how Lance lived his life, and boy did he live it well. Together with Kevin Grocock, Lance Johnston was the owner of K and L Poultry; a business they started in 1982 and fast became a retail icon of the South Melbourne Market. I remember Kevin and Lance as being among the very fi rst customers of La Ionica, as the business was then known. I was only very young when they would come over to the factory to collect orders or pay their accounts. When I joined the business in the early 1990’s, I would have the daily privilege of ringing them for their sales orders, building up a respectful relationship and close rapport. Lance will always be remembered as a person who worked hard, and equally, he played hard. He was as real as one could be, and you just knew that what he said was genuine and straight from the heart. Being from a family business, I always admired how both Lance and Kevin involved all of their families in the business. Each of them surrounded by all of their boys; to them family and business were one and the same, just like us.
FEATHEROOM | 03 | COMMUNITY COMMUNITY NOTICES NOTICES Sadly, a week or so before Lance’s passing, Lance’s son Darren, who worked closely with his father in the business, also lost his battle with cancer. K and L Poultry and Kevin’s Poultry would have to be regarded as two of our most loyal customers. Respect and loyalty are a two-way street, and once it is earned, it stays there for life. Lance and Darren, were the embodiment of loyalty, friendship, and family. It has been an honour to serve Lance and his family; a link that will be maintained well into the future. On behalf of the Cuteri family and all of us at Turosi, we extend our most sincere and heartfelt sympathies to Leigh, Dean, Lance and Chris Johnston on the loss of Lance and Darren. Our thoughts are with you and with the family of Kevin Grocock. By Pina Di Donato
