Roslin Nutrition WE HELP MAKE YOUR CONCEPTS A REALITY 2

Roslin WE HELP MAKE YOUR CONCEPTS A REALITY Nutrition Roslin Nutrition are a privately owned and independent contract research organisation undertaking nutritional evaluation studies in monogastric animals. Our mission statement: “Employing highly skilled individuals who specialise in every aspect of the services we provide and to partner organisations with dedicated skill sets in Poultry and Pig Genetics, Feed Production, Feed Additives and Novel Ingredients” RNL originally operated as a spin out from The Roslin Institute, the premier UK Centre devoted to research on farm animals and the birthplace of the first cloned mammal, Dolly the Sheep. However, following a successful management buy-out in February 2002, RNL moved into private ownership and became a completely independent contract research company. In 2008, following a strategic review, RNL formed a new joint venture with Wemyss and March Estates and moved to new premises on the Gosford Estate in East Lothian, some 16 miles south east of Edinburgh and about 40 minutes from Edinburgh International Airport. A bespoke feed mill was designed and installed in what was previously an army camp building on the Estate and staff and offices were moved to this new location. Piglets WE HELP MAKE YOUR CONCEPTS A REALITY We currently operate two piglet cabins (1 & 2), each cabin is capable of housing 128 animals in 32 individual pens. We source our piglets from a high health status farm which is located 10 miles from our site, this helps reduce stress levels during transportation to our farm. The pig farm is populated with 350 Danbred sows and they are served by Large White Boars which produces an excellent commercial cross breed piglet. The animals are weaned at 28 days old (approximately 8kg) and are on study for 42 days and finish at approximately 30/35kg at 70 days. Standard Piglet Study: • Feed, Weigh and Report Additional Parameters: • Faecal collection per pen • Faecal Digestibility – Titanium Dioxide as a marker Roslin Nutrition | Gosford Estate | Longniddry | East Lothian | Scotland | EH32 0PX [email protected] | www.roslinnutrition.co.uk | +44 (0) 1875 871 270

Feed Mill WE HELP MAKE YOUR CONCEPTS A REALITY Roslin Nutrition has had the ability to manufacture trial feed for over 20 years. During this period, we have perfected a process whereby we can accurately produce feed to a very high standard of homogeneity achieving CV’s of lea than 5%. Small batch sizes of 200, 600 and 1100kg are the most common quantities of trial feed manufactured. Grab samples are taken from each 20kg bag, these are placed in a small mixer and mixed for 3 minutes. Sub samples are taken from the composite mix, some are retained within the feed mill and others will be sent for test product recovery and proximate analysis. Feed for studies is enclosed in 3 ply brown paper bags, each bag is individually weighed (20kg), this weight is written on the bag. Each bag of feed is identified with a coloured label which refers to the treatment number, this enables the staff on farm to easily place the correct treated feed at the appropriate pen. We also offer a feed manufacturing service to companies who wish to undertake product recovery and stability testing of a product. We can collect samples of feed at multiples locations throughout the manufacturing process.
