Distinguished education to create a generation for whom nothing is impossible Introduction: The Graduation Project is a meaningful learning experience, which Dawhat Al-Jazeera International School feels should be a part of every student’s educational career. The project provides a student or group of students with an opportunity for in-depth learning of a self-selected topic, which involves research and analysis. Dawhat Al-Jazeera School requires that ( Grade 12 Students) complete some important components of the Graduation Project as a part of the English curriculum. Therefore, the Graduation Project is a required part of English subject. All students are required to complete a graduation project as part of their graduation requirements. It is mandatory to be completed during the academic year 2016-2017 A.D. After a particular area of interest is identified and approved, students will ask questions, select resources, conduct research, and develop written reports and oral performances/demonstrations/exhibits on the topic. The project will be under the guidance and direction of school advisors (English Teacher, Coordinator and principl) . All projects will require a written and oral presentation to a Graduation Project Evaluation Panel. The purpose of the project is to assure that a student or group of students is able to apply, analyze, synthesize and evaluate information; and is able to demonstrate significant understanding of a topic. This Graduation Project Manual describes the components of the project, the steps necessary to complete the project, a timeline, and evaluation procedures. It should be emphasized that both the Graduation Project process and the product are important. It is the belief of DJIS that the Graduation Project is a positive learning activity that will benefit students in their educational careers while meeting a state-mandated requirement for graduation. Distinguished education to create a generation for whom nothing is impossible Overview: A Graduation Project is a formal assignment chosen by a student or small group of students on a topic related to the curriculum and involves out-of-class research and development. It is primarily a learning activity, not solely an evaluation activity, designed to provide students with an opportunity to make clear that they are ready to graduate, equipped with the essential know-how, self-discipline, and mature attitudes required of adult life and the demands of college. A Graduation Project is designed to challenge students to demonstrate: 1. not merely their knowledge but also their initiative. 2. not merely their problem-solving but also their problem-finding. 3. not merely their capacity for learning on cue, but also their ability to judge and learn how to learn on an open-ended problem, often of their own design. The Graduation Project experience would typically be focused on the essential skills of \"inquiry and expression\" a synthesis that requires: 1. questioning 2. problem-finding 3. problem-solving 4. independent research 5. the creation of a product or performance 6. a public demonstration of mastery A component calling for self-reflection and analysis of what one has undergone and learned may be included. Distinguished education to create a generation for whom nothing is impossible Objectives: The Graduation Project provides: 1. students with an opportunity to formulate questions and to discover feasible solutions. 2. students with an opportunity to demonstrate individual initiative or group responsibility 3. students with an opportunity to use resource materials to express ideas and talents. 4. opportunity for the teacher to approve a variety of projects in which to accommodate a diversity of ability levels and individual interests. 5. opportunities for students to talk together and exchange ideas while creating their project. The Graduation Project: 1. demonstrates that students have mastered the learning process. They should clearly demonstrate that they have been able to define a problem clearly, and are able to understand the difference between process and product, both of which are equally important. They understand the importance of the form in which their work is presented. 2. must be well thought out. 3. should consider such problems as the following: a. What do I want to learn? b. How will I go about learning these things? c. What will the product be? d. What will the time line be? e. What type of research will be used? f. How will data be used? Distinguished education to create a generation for whom nothing is impossible Graduation Project Purpose: The purpose of the graduation project is to provide students with an opportunity to engage in an activity that will allow them to demonstrate their ability to apply the knowledge and skills they have gained throughout their years in the educational system. The project is designed to ensure that students are able to apply, analyze, synthesize, and evaluate information and to communicate significant knowledge and understanding. Students develop critical reading, writing, and thinking skills by exploring and analyzing literature. Using these skills, students understand how literature shapes and reflects the philosophical, religious, social, and economic climate of its time. The Graduation Project is intended to allow students to synthesize their accumulated knowledge. Students explore individual topics which reflect their personal interest, future goals and levels of ability. Components: A research paper demonstrating research skills and writing skills, to be completed in this Junior year. A Service Learning Experience product that demonstrates the use of knowledge and skills in a meaningful way to accomplish a goal, to be completed in the Senior year. An oral presentation, during which, students become a source of information communicating their project work before a review panel, to be completed in this year. A portfolio to document tasks, record reflective thinking and insights, as well as demonstrate responsibility for learning as work progresses through the entire process, to be kept throughout the process. Graduation Projects which have not been satisfactorily completed must receive a status of NS (not satisfied) on the student\"s report card. E. If the grade is below a C: (1) the student may revise the unsatisfactory Graduation Project for reevaluation, resulting in a revised grade no higher than a C, as long as it is completed/revised before the start of the next academic year, or (2) the student may instead opt to do another Graduation Project as part of a different designated course in which he/she is enrolled.
