Why do you DLU? I absolutely love the flexibility of receiving PD through DLU. There are so many topics covered that are useful for instruction. My personal favorites are Creating Interactive Assignments in BCPS One and OneNote. I have put so many things I’ve learned through these workshops into practice when working with both teachers and students. This is an opportunity unique to BCPS which truly helps teachers plan their instruction to meet the needs of 21st century learners! Erin Ledford, Catonsville Elementary School STAT Teacher, DLU Participant and Instructor DLU has been a great way for me to learn a variety of tech tools while getting credit. It has been helpful to have someone face to face to ask questions instead of exploring these tools completely on my own. Crystal Lynch, Kingsville Elementary School STAT Teacher, DLU Participant26

I learned so much from all of the DLU workshops. The workshop topics were so diverse – from many features in BCPS One to numerous web-based tools for instruction, assessment and communication, to broader technology practices and uses. It was especially helpful to get hands-on practice with the tools and to share ideas with other educators. Even though I’ve earned as many credits as I can this year, I registered for more workshops this spring. They are informative, quick and relevant. This was such an amazing and easy way to earn credits! With workshops offered online and/or (usually) at multiple times, it was easy to fit them into my schedule. I really loved being able to select the topics. The assignments, which were very manageable, helped me to further develop ideas for using the tools.Cheryl Johnson, Westowne Elementary SchoolLibrary Media Specialist, DLU Participant I believe that I am becoming a more reflective teacher and user of technology as a result of the DLU modules... Thank you again for the opportunity to grow professionally! Heather Buchman, Riderwood Elementary School Kindergarten Teacher, DLU Participant 27

Frequently Asked Questions 1. When will I receive my credit? I need it before my recertification deadline! As soon as a participant has completed the course requirements for 15 hours of work, ODL will submit the paperwork for that person to receive their one MSDE credit. You will receive an email with directions to complete a credit form and return it to us. We will then send it to the Office of Organizational Development to process. 2. Can I only attend five DLU workshops? Teachers are welcome to attend as many DLU workshops as they would like. For every five workshops completed with reflections, participants can earn one MSDE credit. 3. I would like to attend a workshop, but I am not interested in receiving a credit. Am I still allowed to register? Teachers are allowed to attend any of the DLU workshop modules even if they are not interested in the MSDE credit. However, there is no compensation for attending, so we encourage all participants to consider registering for DLU. 4. Are paraeducators allowed to attend DLU workshops? Paraeducators are welcome to attend any of the DLU workshop modules if they feel that the content is relevant to their professional responsibilities. However, they will not be compensated for their attendance.28

5. I want to attend an online workshop, but I have other obligations at that time. Can I just watch the recording? Participants attending an online DLU workshop MUST attend the session at the time indicated in the Online Registration System. Synchronous participation is required for online workshops to count towards the DLU requirement.6. I emailed my DLU reflection the day after the workshop. When will I know if someone received it? Emailed reflections are checked starting after the due date for each workshop; so at least eleven school days after the workshop. Senders will receive confirmation once their reflection has been checked and recorded. You are always welcome to use the Outlook “delivery receipt” or “read receipt” features.7. How is my workshop attendance and reflections tracked? The DLU facilitator tracks all participant attendance and reflections. Participants are encouraged to keep record of attended workshops using the DLU Tracking Tool template.8. Why do some CPD courses last five days while another lasts over a month? Each MSDE credit is awarded for 15 hours of work. While one CPD course may take place face-to-face in three hour sessions over the course of five days, another may happen in an asynchronous online environment where course work completion is more self-paced and can be spread out over time. Please visit the ODL Wiki for additional information. 29
